- Chapter 790 - 790: The Two Faced Prisoner

Standing in the middle, surrounded by his guards, was the emperor of the Feng Empire. Surrounded by the rest of the forces deployed by the Red Dawn Cult, their bodies surged with power.
There was no fear in their eyes, only steel determination!
“Surrender, you are surrounded.” One of the leaders stepped forward and warned Wuhan’s group. “If you do not come with us on your own, we will take you, alive or—”
Woosh!
Something whistled through the air, cutting the speech short. Before anyone could even react, the cultist saw one of the leaders falling to the ground—no, it was not him; they were his ashes!
“Even with so many resources at your disposal…” Wuhan stepped out of the circle slowly; in his hand was a device that the cultist seemed very familiar with. They had been using the same thing to track the group. “Yet you fail to use them. Not only are they wasteful on you guys, but you do not even realize how in over your head you are.”
The female leader with a pitched voice glanced at her own device. On it she saw the location of the group surrounded by the force of the Red Dawn Cult.
But she also noticed something else…
A surge of energy clouded from around the same area they had been standing on, surrounding the group.
Realization dawned on her, and she raised her head hastily only to see Wuhan looking straight in her eyes.
Too late…
He mouthed those words and tore a piece of paper that had appeared in his hand at some point.
Everything happened in a split second. Wuhan and his group were covered by a deep azure shield, and the ground beneath the cultist started to glow until….
BOOM!!!
A massive explosion rocked the Evergreen forest, its roar shaking the trees and sending leaves tumbling from the canopy.
The ground quaked, and a blinding flash of azure light lit up the area, drowning out the cultists’ glowing qi.
A shockwave tore through the underbrush, snapping branches and leaving a haze of dust and smoke.
When the air cleared, silence fell.
A wide, ring-shaped crater now scarred the earth, its edges blackened and smoking. The ground looked like it had been scooped out by some giant force, leaving nothing but charred dirt and melted rocks.
No trace of the Red Dawn cultists remained—not their bodies, not their weapons, not even their tracking devices.
In the middle of the crater, Wuhan and his guards stood untouched, protected by a glowing azure shield.
The dome shimmered like blue glass, rippling faintly as it held strong against the blast. Wuhan’s sharp eyes scanned the destruction, his face cold.
His guards stood ready, gripping their weapons, their breathing steady despite the chaos.
“Hmph,” Wuhan grunted, his voice low.
He raised a hand, and the shield flickered, its glow fading. The blue light unraveled like mist, slowly dissolving until it vanished completely, leaving the group exposed but unharmed.
“It was wise not to deal with them myself. We cannot just rely on our recovery pills to fight the whole cult.” The captain saw the aftermath and shook his head with a wry smile.
While the group prepared to leave the area, the outcome of the raid sent into the forest reached the ears of the priestess who was standing face-to-face with the elven princess and also the priestess of the world tree.
___
Basking in the golden glow of the throne room and the shadow of the grand tree of life that could be seen through the glass roof above, stood a trembling elven woman.
She trembled under the heavy gaze of the priestess, which she could even feel despite the mask that had covered the woman’s face.
The silence only broke when the priestess of the red dawn cult spoke coldly, “Take her away to see her mother.”
“Wha—” Before Sylvheriel could say anything, the guards in the room dragged her out of the room.
Silence embraced the hall only to be broken the next moment.
“What did you have to inform?” The woman sitting on the throne glanced towards the figure kneeling in the darkness from the corner of her eyes, making him flinch.
The guard, without raising his head, spoke, “General Helena ordered me to inform you that the intruders have wiped out the task force we sent.”
The woman did not seem fazed by the news and even asked coldly, “Is that all?”
It was clear she was displeased with the information and did not want to be disturbed for such simple matters.
The man shook his head nervously before continuing, “She also said that as of a few minutes ago, the intruders are finally coming towards us.”
“Ohh…” The coldness in her voice finally receded as she heard those words. “What is Helena doing?”
The guard seemed visibly relieved as he continued, “The General is preparing as per your orders and waiting for your instruction.”
Then he paused for a second before continuing. “She also said that as you had asked her before, she ran a deep search of the continent all day long… but she has yet to find what you were looking for.”
The fingers drumming on the throne paused as the woman fully turned to look at the soldier kneeling.
“Is that so…?” She whispered in a dragging tone as if her mind were someplace else. “Let her know that there is no need to continue with that task.”
Her voice suddenly turned drifty as she added, “Tell her to focus on what she has to do.”
The guard bowed deeply once he got the signal to leave and exited the throne room.
Without a word, she gracefully stood up from the throne, her golden hair cascading down her bountiful breasts. The black robes highlighted her figure, tugging at her curves from the sides and the back.
With each step she took forward, a ripple coursed through her robes, disappearing into unknown places.
Walking out of the room, she made her way down the hallway. She moved as if she had no destination, but her steps never wavered.
***
The world tree was a representation of the most pure and innocent force of nature, and wherever it grows, the place is surrounded by flora and fauna.
All kinds of treasures can be found in this place.
It was a place that can be called literally heaven on earth.
But…
There was nothing remotely close to those words that could resemble the garden where the world tree of the elven empire was growing from.
Rows of discarded bodies were lying on the ground; the grass that was supposed to be blooming with green radiance was drowned in a sea of blood.
Some of the blood seemed fresh, while some had already started to dry out.
There were no heavenly herbs, only bloody plants that appeared nothing short of demonic. The pointy leaves with deadly thorns screamed danger even from the distance.
The river of blood and bushes of the demonic herbs all crawled up to the massive tree whose trunk was so thick that it spanned over several kilometers, and yet the castle still formed a boundary around it.
The moment the priestess of the Red Dawn Cult stepped into the area, she smelled the sharp metallic scent lingering in the air. Almost instantly, her gaze followed the scent leading to the sea of corpses lying in the garden.
Corpses, not of the sacrifices but of the cultists stationed to secure the area.
Her steps never slowed as she walked through the corridor, covering several meters with each step.
Her eyes scanned the surroundings, but there were no signs of struggle and fighting, just pure massacre.
Soon she took a turn around the edge of the corridor, walking around the tree only to see a single figure standing there in the distance, looking up at the world tree in silence.
She could not see the face of the man as he had his back turned towards her. She only caught a faint glimpse of his profile as his long hair obscured her vision.
Step!
The sound of each step she took echoed in the silent hall, and the golden-haired woman was sure that her steps reached the man, but he made no efforts to look in her direction.
As she closed the distance between them, the priestess analyzed the man from head to toe.
It was only when she was standing directly behind him that she came to a stop and spoke up.
“I had one of my best resources look for you, and no one seemed to even have a hint that you were here, right under our noses.” The priestess broke the silence; she moved her hands to the front, one resting on the other.
“I have heard about you… Noah of the backwater kingdom, who seemingly appeared out of nowhere.” Unbothered by the silence from the man before, she continued to speak elegantly. “What about the woman who is always seen by your—”
Before she could finish her words, a voice beaming with laughter cut through her words.
“Aunty! They have arrived! Just like I said, they would come!” The owner of the cheerful voice ran out of the door behind the priestess, to her right. “The humans are here—”
The voice abruptly cut off when the woman saw the pile of corpses before her. Her face contorted a little, but then her eyes landed on Noah’s, and they widened in surprise.
Noah finally turned, meeting the gaze of the newcomer. There was a chilling smile on his face as he opened his mouth to speak in the Elvish language, “You asked why I was not willing to help you…”
The coldness in his voice made Sylvheriel take a step back in fear.
“The Elves are the most treacherous creatures. The only thing they deserve from me… is the edge of my blade.”
