- Chapter 803 - 803: The Truth About The Cult and The Priestess

“What do you mean corrupt?” The elven queen asked heavily, straightening her posture.
“They had been feeding it with the blood—the blood of all living creatures—performing some sort of ritual on it.” Instead of going into details, Noah simply gave them vague information: “Before they could achieve their evil intentions, I made sure the world tree did not harm anything or anyone else.”
A heavy silence filled the chambers; many wanted to speak—to yell at Noah—but the queen’s words kept them from speaking.
“I barely know anything about the people who suddenly appeared out of nowhere and launched an attack on the empire. We—me and my husband—were aware of the fact that there was some unrest in the elves, but no one had ever thought something like this would happen.” As she spoke about her husband, the queen’s voice cracked with heavy emotions, but she held herself before her people.
“I have no idea why my own daughter would side with such barbarians when they killed her father right before her own eyes.”
Wuhan and the group were left with their mouths hanging hearing this information. To think that the girl experienced such a thing and still sided with her enemies.
‘So you also don’t know that the woman who is leading this force is also Sylvheriel’s aunt?’
Boom!
The former elven queen looked as if she had been struck by lightning, hearing Noah’s voice ringing in her mind. Her eyes widened in shock, and the dullness within them was replaced by something else.
Disbelief! Regret!
Noah saw several swirling emotions in those eyes and thought, ‘So she really did not know about them before. But she seems to be aware of this aunt… Maybe I can get some useful information from this.’
After several moments of silence, the middle-aged woman slumped on the ground like a defeated ruler and spoke, “The blessing of the world tree is every elf’s dream to obtain. There had been only one recorded person who had ever received this blessing.”
Although uncertain why she brought this up, Noah decided to listen to her words.
“That woman was the first ever priestess of the world tree.” Her voice drifted in the air like she was recalling some story of the past.
“The woman who brought ‘The Lord of the Night’ into this world?” Wuhan’s surprised voice snapped her out of the daze.
“You have seen ‘the lord’?” She asked with hope and disbelief something that was in the eyes of every elf present.
“I fought him and lost…” Wuhan said calmly, but the corner of his lips twitched when he felt Noah looking in his direction. “It was chasing after the elven princess, calling her a traitor.”
The middle-aged woman took a breath of realization as she continued, “Indeed, her faith and desperation brought the lord to this world. She was hailed as the hero of the elves, but the priestess wanted nothing but to take care of the world tree.”
“After she passed, her descendants all wanted to take care of the world tree, but none of them ever gained the mark. Most of them did not care about the mark or the world tree. They all wanted to pursue their own paths.”
Everyone, even some of the younger elves, listened to her very carefully as if eager to hear more of this story.
“Let me guess, one did not have as nature-friendly ideas as the rest?” Noah suddenly interrupted her in between, but the woman did not mind; instead, she nodded in agreement.
“Aelua, the granddaughter of the first priestess, always did not like our lives of secrecy. She wanted to explore the world, reveal our existence to the world, and take over the rest of the empires so we cannot be threatened by others.”
Noah clicked his tongue in annoyance when he saw the look of pain flickering in her eyes.
“Despite our refusal, she kept amassing followers behind our back, so my husband had no choice but to lock her up.”
The elders let out a collective sigh; their emotions were no different from their queen’s.
“But one day when I went to visit Aelua, my sister… she had disappeared from her cell and all of her subordinates. The ones she had convinced to follow her were lying on the floor, their throats slit. Everyone but one of them was dead.”
A name automatically appeared in Noah’s mind before it reached his lips: “Helena.”
The queen nodded tiredly, her eyes moistened as she looked away, gazing out of the window.
Wuhan pursed his lips, taking in everything before walking up to Noah. “We should leave; they might come at any time. What do you want to do with them?”
“You already know.” Noah rolled his eyes at Wuhan and said, “If you didn’t, you would not have asked out loud.”
Snapping his finger, Noah conjured several swords made from pure sword intent and slashed towards the cell. The elves tensed in fear, seeing the attack forming out of nowhere; the sense of danger from the attack made things worse.
Clank!
The attack cleaved through the rods like a hot knife through butter, but Noah did not take their shackles off immediately.
Realizing that they had been freed, every elf, though still wary, stepped out of their cages.
Everyone but one…
The middle-aged woman still lay slumped in the last cell, leaning against the cell as if she had no intention of leaving the cell.
Noah walked up to the woman. Even though she had sensed him approaching, she did not look him in the eye and kept looking out towards the ocean waves. “Please take everyone else and leave; I cannot leave this place. This place has taken my husband and my daughter away from me. I cannot leave this place alive without seeing it—eh!”
The woman let out a sharp yelp when she suddenly felt her body rising into the air. She looked at Noah with a startled look, but the man had already turned his back towards her.
“I don’t have the time to waste on you anymore.”
