- Chapter 810 - 810: The Sense of Foreboding

“The Red Dawn Cult?” Feng Niu’s eyes narrowed sharply upon hearing the familiar name. She whispered to herself, “He found the hideout of those roaches? Something I myself could not accomplish.”
Xin Yan paused and turned to face her. “You know about the cult?”
She did not look surprised or shocked by her claims. Xin Yan knew that the cult had been amassing strength in the world for several hundred years now.
“Indeed I do.” The black-haired woman’s eyes narrowed into a sly gleam as she asked, “but I wonder what the information I have is worth to you?”
Her blatant attempt to make a profit made the prime minister gnash his teeth, but Xin Yan remained untethered as she replied, “Depending on the value of the information, I might just help you repair the damage to your physical body.”
Her words struck the woman more than she liked to show. Xin Yan saw her body tensing up and added calmly, “You are dying, and I have the means to reverse that.”
“How did you know?” Feng Niu spat coldly; her eyes shone with dangerous killing intent, but Xin Yan did not seem to care. Seeing that, she let out a long breath and said. “What assurance do I have that you have what you claim, not to mention if you will even give it to me? After all, I tried to kill you.”
Xin Yan’s cold mask finally cracked a little when she let out a strange chuckle, “You don’t. There will be no assurance, as you said you tried to kill me. So you just have to take a leap of faith.”
She turned and took a step towards the gate when her figure turned into a streak of white light, disappearing from the room, leaving only a whisper of her voice, “you have until Wuhan returns to make a decision.”
Feng Niu kept staring at the spot where Xin Yan once stood with an unreadable expression on her face. Her gaze drifted to the Shih Tzu, who flinched the moment their eyes met, but the man did not look away.
Seeing his defiant attitude, the woman smirked. “What an interesting kid.”
Then a second later, her figure was devoured by the slithering darkness around her, along with the pressure her presence brought.
Once she was gone, Shi Tzu breathed a long sigh of relief. “Your Majesty, please return soon. If you don’t, there might not be an empire for you to return to.”
…
Feng Niu flickered before the roof she was once trapped in and stared at the gates without blinking.
“What a vigilant woman.” As if feeling something, a smile found her lips. She looked in a certain corner of the hallway and smirked. “I wonder what will become of me if I try to escape.”
Hours blended into days as the situation in the capital city grew tense. In the absence of the emperor Wuhan and the lingering fear of the unknown woman who was rumored to be the emperor’s mother and also a herald of great doom.
People who knew about the woman and her past could not even sleep knowing she was alive and out in the open.
Especially the major families. Their names were not just for show; they showed the history they have experienced over several hundred years and rose through the highs and lows.
The great families of the empire worked tirelessly to maintain order, each struggling to keep their masks of composure intact.
They understood better than anyone that panic among the common folk would be disastrous.
Everyone understood that if the Emperor did not even come when Feng Niu appeared to cause trouble, then it was a possibility that either his immersed cultivation would take a lot of time or something serious was going on.
So, they buried the truth.
The rumors of her return—the woman once thought to be a shadow from the past—never reached the ears of the people on the street.
The patrols around the castle had doubled. The royal palace was shrouded in an unseen barrier acting as both a protection from outside enemies and a prison to trap something or someone inside.
Xin Yan decided to stay in the castle to keep an eye on Feng Niu while training. The former empress would come to visit her from time to time, asking for spars, but the result was the same every time.
She would stop once Xin Yan comes close to defeating her. The fights left her frustrated about her stagnant strength.
She grew more and more annoyed with each passing day and not seeing her son.
And fortunately for the people of the Feng empire, her waiting time came to an end before she could lose her cool.
At the coast of the Feng Empire, the lifeless teleportation array of the Red Dawn Cult that no one could see suddenly came to life after two months of usage.
Once the light faded, a crowd came to life. Leading the elves out of their cages, Noah and his group had returned to the Feng Empire.
“Ugh, I wonder how much work has been piled up for me.” As the seven soldiers of the empire and captain black sword led the group in front, Wuhan and Noah trailed in back with a casual stride.
Noah chuckled and replied, “The work of the empire is the least of our worries. Now that we have poked a hornet’s nest, the war is on its way.”
The emperor nodded seriously. “We have to coordinate with all the powers on the continent, rule out the traitors, and make a united force.”
“That will be a big blow to the cult’s plan, but there are a few other forces we have to take care of.”
Wuhan knew who he was talking about the moment he heard those words. Shaking his head, he climbed on the ship Noah had pulled out of his storage ring to ride.
Eva and the rest of the elves were already on board. Their faces were marred with panic and uncertainty. Up until now they all lived in the forests of the elven continent, but now they were supposed to live among strangers, and they had no idea what the future might hold for them.
This kind of uncertainty was scary for even the bravest souls on the ship. As the flying Artifact rose towards the palace, Wuhan’s eyes turned wistful as he muttered. “What is this sense of foreboding…”
