Getting a Technology System in Modern Day - Chapter 1031: Falling like Dominos VI

Chapter 1031: Falling like Dominos VI
If the entire battlefield was shrunk into a fight inside a body, the imperial forces would look like white blood cells fighting a disease at its weakest, except for one place where the disease seemed to be fighting itself.
The empire, keeping its promise of not attacking the Xor’Vak in return for having everything handled by a fight with the Grand Xor’Vak against an opponent of his choosing, didn’t send a single fleet into Xor’Vak territories. But that didn’t mean fights didn’t break out; rather, the most brutal of them all broke out inside Xor’Vak territories.
Like the remaining civilizations, the Xor’Vak had also exchanged soldiers and allowed soldiers from other civilizations to come and aid them, covering their weaknesses with their strengths. As the civilization with the largest territory, the number of exchanged soldiers was very large.
So, the moment the news of the Zelvora betrayal reached the soldiers of other civilizations, fights broke out everywhere inside Xor’Vak territories as they tried to take revenge for their betrayed comrades and for their civilizations on the Zelvora soldiers, who had also attacked them at the same time as their fellow Zelvora did in other civilizations, knowing exactly this was going to happen.
However, unlike in the other territories where imperial forces joined the fight immediately, none appeared here, making it a fight between the Zelvora and everyone else. As a result, nearly all Zelvora who were inside Xor’Vak territory were either killed, captured and tortured, or hiding from pursuing groups.
………………….
“What are we going to do?” inside a private mental network, a female-looking Zelvora asked, looking quite nervous during a conversation with another. Although their mental counterparts were fully fine, their real bodies were in shambles, having suffered too much damage during their escape attempt.
“I don’t know, but if we don’t do anything, the Trinarians are going to find us soon,” the male Zelvora said as the mental network was bathed with a tender feeling that the female Zelvora accepted with her eyes closed, which slowly calmed her down.
“They should have told us that the empire is not going to come here and have us leave first,” the female Zelvora said, knowing that the empire had literally sentenced them to death. Despite knowing the empire had no obligation to do that and it would have been a foolish move, as it would have alerted other civilizations, none of those reasons stopped her from cursing the empire.
“They are getting close,” the male Zelvora said, sensing them the moment they entered his mental observation range. Before he said anything else, he pushed himself out of their hiding position, using telekinesis to propel himself at the highest speed his body could handle. He escaped, leaving behind one final sentence: “I’m sorry,” before canceling the private mental network.
Although his escape attempt might have looked like a diversion, the way he did it had blown up the area they were in, revealing the female Zelvora. She was a step too late in realizing what was happening before she could attempt to escape, which was enough time for the Trinarian soldiers to discover her and tear her apart by causing a spatial tear inside her body.
In the face of death, not everyone acted equally, and that was no different even for the most united civilizations in the Conclave. To buy himself a few more seconds of life, he had sacrificed his comrade. He couldn’t escape and was killed moments later, but he was one of a minority among the Zelvora.
Although a minority, when the scale is in the billions, there were still too many. As a result, some of the invasion forces were met with more than the expected resistance, though that too was dealt with swiftly as it was within calculations.
…………………….
“I think the empire has already attacked the top ten civilizations,” Leopold said to his friend, with whom he was having a war watch party. They had met each other during their shift patrolling a captured planet and had become very close during that period, to the point where they spent their offline time together.
His friend, Sophie, instead of verbally responding, just gave him a look that said, “Here we go with another one of your random, reasoned bullshit.”
“I know what is going through your mind, but let me yap a bit about my reason for coming to that conclusion,” Leopold said as he pushed himself closer to Sophie, to a point where they were almost touching. He started his explanation, “Don’t you find it weird that nothing of the top ten has been shown for the last full day? I mean, I can understand a few hours since the territories to cover are huge and there is only one official feed, but to not show the civilizations that we are yet to fully conquer, who are the most powerful ones, for an entire day should be a hint about something. At least, that is how I see it.” While in full focus of his explanation, his nerd perk of being oblivious to the obvious reaction of the girl in front of him was working full-time, trying to keep him single.
“Let’s say you are right,” Sophie said, turning her head aside to recollect herself before she asked, “What do you think is their reasoning for keeping it away from our screens?”
“Well, it is definitely not to keep it a secret because there is really no way for information to leak, at least from the ways I can think of. But it would fully make sense if you think of it from the point of view of what is something bad enough to deliberately not show to your citizens. Brutal tactics, something like nuking a planet, or even worse,” Leopold said with excitement, as he thought that she was fully agreeing with him.
“Destroying the entire planet or worse?” Sophie asked.
“Yes, even genocide,” Leopold said, but before he could say more, he froze as he finally realized their distance and how close he was to her face, making him incapable of moving.
While the two people with crushes on each other were calculating what to do, their conversation was captured and immediately cataloged among the many discussions people were having about their realization of the empire not showing feeds about the remaining top ten civilizations.
Although minor at the moment, the empire and the rest of the conquered civilizations were slowly coming to that realization. The empire planned to keep quiet about it but not suppress it until it reached a certain threshold, where they would finally address it.
