- Chapter 682 682: Reinforcements Sent by Everett

The Chrono Rabbit didn’t answer Charles’s question. It simply waited for his next order.
“I must be out of my mind, actually expecting you to give me a clear answer,” Charles said with a helpless smile.
He pulled himself together and started moving the Sandworms one by one into the underground area beneath Serpent’s Eye Lake Oasis.
Of course, the Chrono Rabbit was brought along as well.
Before the final battle arrived, the Chrono Rabbit had to stay here and make sure all the Sandworms remained calm.
Setting everything up would take a huge amount of time.
For Charles, time was the one thing he lacked the most right now.
So he couldn’t afford to waste even a single moment.
While Charles worked nonstop, General Sost also stepped in to help.
Not long after, Zara and High Priest Kent joined in as well.
Although Kent still believed Charles’s plan wouldn’t work, with a great battle ahead, he forced himself to put aside all doubts.
With everyone helping, Charles’s pace increased greatly.
At the same time, deep inside the core area of the Gold Fortress, within the living quarters of the Ancient Academy members, a small group quietly arrived.
They were now in a secret room, meeting with Harbor.
“No one saw you on the way here, right?”
Harbor looked at them and asked coldly.
“Please rest assured. Dean Everett reminded us again and again that our movements must not be exposed. We left the Ancient Academy in secret, hid our identities during the journey, and made sure no one noticed us.”
The young man standing in front spoke with a serious tone.
He was a member of the Ancient Academy—a level 5 Beast Master.
“Good. Anke, both the dean and I have high hopes for you. You should also use this chance to complete the last steps toward becoming a level 6 Beast Master.”
Harbor placed a gentle hand on Anke’s shoulder as he spoke.
“Don’t worry. I will use this chance to finish my final preparation for advancing to level 6. And I will also help you completely erase Charles.”
Anke replied with great confidence.
His confidence was even more than Harbor expected.
“You sound very sure of yourself. Did you prepare something extra?”
Harbor asked.
Anke didn’t answer right away.
He first turned around and signaled for the people who came with him to leave.
Once only Anke and Harbor remained in the room, Anke slowly began to speak.
“Dean provided me with two very high-level mystical beasts to ensure that this mission goes smoothly. These two mystical beasts can deliver a deadly blow to Charles in battle.”
Harbor raised an eyebrow.
He didn’t respond immediately.
From his perspective, just two high-level mystical beasts weren’t enough to defeat Charles.
From his experience fighting Charles, Harbor knew that Charles had at least three god-level mystical beasts on his side.
After a moment’s hesitation, Harbor spoke in a warning tone.
“Even with two high-level mystical beasts provided by the dean, you shouldn’t be too careless. Charles has more trump cards than we realize. And he could very well use this time to further strengthen himself.”
Harbor’s words were only half-spoken when Anke interrupted him.
Anke smiled and replied,
“You’re right, of course. I know you’ve been at a disadvantage in your battles with Charles. That’s why I won’t be overconfident. I’ll rest for one more night, then I’ll head out tomorrow morning to challenge Charles.”
Harbor frowned.
“You should know that the ceasefire agreement between Charles and me lasts for another ten days, right?”
“That’s just your agreement with Charles. I never made a ceasefire agreement with him,” Anke said nonchalantly.
Harbor’s anger flared.
He clenched his fist, ready to reprimand Anke.
But before he could say anything, Anke continued on his own.
“Making a ceasefire agreement with the enemy is a foolish move. Only the weak and cowards do that.”
Anke’s words completely enraged Harbor.
But Harbor didn’t snap back in anger.
In fact, the more furious he became, the calmer he grew.
He knew very well that without Anke’s help, he couldn’t defeat Charles easily. And if he was seriously injured in a fight with Charles, Everett might abandon him.
After quickly thinking it over, Harbor forced a faint smile.
“If you’re confident, then good. If you want to challenge him, go ahead. I’m bound by the ceasefire agreement, so I can only fight Charles after ten days.”
He waved his hand, signaling for Anke to leave.
Anke, of course, didn’t linger.
In his eyes, he was the one leading this mission.
Before leaving for the Ancient Academy, Everett had clearly expressed his dissatisfaction with Harbor.
As the dean of the Ancient Academy, Everett had already lost much hope in Harbor, which was why he sent Anke.
Anke, of course, wasn’t about to give Harbor any more chances to show his worth.
“Then you should rest up. I’ll be heading out tomorrow to challenge Charles. If everything goes well, once I defeat him, we can notify the Stellar Empire and have them launch their attack early.”
“I understand! I’ll make sure everything is ready for you.”
After Anke left, the smile on Harbor’s face quickly faded.
“Such arrogance! Even Dean Everett suffered under Charles’s hands, and this guy thinks he can easily defeat him.”
Maxwell stepped out from a hidden door in the room.
He had actually been there all along, just keeping his presence hidden.
“Senior, I don’t think you should indulge him like this! Sure, he’s a level 5 Beast Master, but his experience isn’t as deep as mine!”
Maxwell looked down on Anke.
Anke had joined the Ancient Academy after him, yet he had surpassed Maxwell in both strength and reputation.
Harbor remained silent, as if deep in thought.
After a moment, he slowly spoke.
“Let’s just see how strong he really is. He’ll be challenging Charles tomorrow. Whether he succeeds or fails, it’ll be beneficial for us either way.”
Upon hearing this, Maxwell rushed over to Harbor’s side, his voice urgent.
“You can’t be so casual about this! If he really defeats Charles, all the credit will go to him! Our efforts won’t get us anything. Worse, Everett might think we’re all useless!”
Maxwell wasn’t the strongest, but he was very determined when it came to claiming credit.
And Everett was a very practical man.
As the dean of the Ancient Academy, Everett would never give any opportunities to someone he deemed useless.
“Calm down.”
Harbor said, his voice cool.
“Do you really think he has a chance of beating Charles?”
“Didn’t the dean provide him with two very high-level mystical beasts? What if those mystical beasts perform exceptionally well? Senior, you can’t make decisions based on wishful thinking alone.”
Maxwell answered, his tone full of urgency.
Harbor slowly stood up.
“Wishful thinking, you say? Is that how you see me?”
He asked, his voice low and heavy with pressure.
Maxwell suddenly realized he had misspoken.
He quickly tried to cover himself. “I just wanted to remind you to prepare for the worst-case scenario. If Anke really succeeds, you’ll lose Everett’s attention as well. I’m only looking out for you.”
Maxwell knew he needed to change the subject fast.
So, he used his best tactic: bringing up something Harbor cared about most.
Although Harbor always seemed calm and collected, giving off the impression that he was sure to win, deep down, Harbor was also worried about being abandoned by Everett.
As soon as Maxwell spoke, Harbor’s expression shifted.
“You’re right,” Harbor said coldly. “So, the two of us will follow Anke tomorrow in secret.”
“You mean we’ll watch the situation between Anke and Charles, and then decide how to act?”
Maxwell started to understand what Harbor was implying.
“Of course. You don’t think I’m going to let Anke take all the credit, do you? If he really defeats Charles, then he might not make it out of the Atacama Desert alive.”
Harbor’s eyes suddenly grew icy. His tone turned sharp, carrying a clear sense of danger.
Maxwell flashed a fawning smile.
“You really think of everything! I’ll start getting ready right away!”
With that, Maxwell turned and left.
Harbor kept his eyes fixed on Maxwell’s retreating figure.
He absolutely despised Maxwell.
Then again, Harbor didn’t like anyone.
In Harbor’s mind, aside from his sister Nana Xu, there was no one worth caring about. Everyone else was either his enemy or a stepping stone on his path.
To him, everyone was just a pawn in his game.
The best outcome, in Harbor’s eyes, would be for him to leave the Atacama Desert alone.
Charles, the Stellar Empire’s crown prince, and even the Serpents—they all needed to be completely wiped out.
