Chapter 777: Chapter 377: Illusion Beast (Two in One)_1
Looking at these fearless natives, Chen Mo understood why so many of them died within the Grave of Gods.
From their conversation, he inferred that the Grave of Gods contained treasures capable of greatly enhancing the Divine Power of natives like them.
However, such treasures were useless to destined people like Chen Mo.
Furthermore, similar to the Divine Domain—which only destined people could see—the treasures these natives spoke of could only be seen by them; destined people could not see these specific treasures. Chen Mo learned this from their dialogue.
After his appearance in the Adventurer’s Tavern, word had spread that a destined person had arrived. Someone among this group of natives had mentioned this before they entered the Grave of Gods. Originally, one of them had thought that if a destined person appeared, it would be safer to entrust them with retrieving the item. But their captain, who clearly knew more, had directly refused.
Through their conversation, Chen Mo also learned more about the World of Heavenly Element. In this world, the distinction between natives and destined people was very clear. There were items that specifically benefited natives, and others that specifically benefited destined people.
Seeing this group venture into the Grave of Gods for treasure, Chen Mo felt their chances of survival were slim. After all, among their party of five, only the captain was a professional. Two were complete rookies. The other two, despite having been there a few times, hesitated noticeably before entering; their previous visits had only made them more aware of how terrifying the Grave of Gods truly was. It was likely the allure of the treasure within that ultimately convinced them to enter.
Not long after this group went in, Chen Mo sensed another figure appear by the cliff face at the entrance to the Grave of Gods.
It was Zhui Yi, who had returned.
Upon seeing him, Chen Mo instantly teleported closer to access Zhui Yi’s memories.
From Zhui Yi’s memories, Chen Mo learned why Zhui Yi had spent so long inside the Grave of Gods before coming out.
The Grave of Gods was simply no place for humans. Upon entry, one would be enveloped by a bizarre divine mist. Once shrouded within this mist, not even the origin-grade Eye of Origin could penetrate it. They could only move within a visible range of less than ten meters.
After entering, Zhui Yi found that the map couldn’t be opened. Surrounded by the divine mist, movement was nearly impossible, so he immediately summoned a large number of Ghosts to scout ahead.
As it turned out, the virtual monsters inside the Grave of Gods seemed to have a particular taste for the Ghosts. A large number of virtual monsters attacked the Ghosts, causing many of those Zhui Yi had dispatched to be killed outright.
The Divine Power of these virtual monsters in the Grave of Gods was very strange. Zhui Yi had personally seen one such virtual monster, whose Divine Power wasn’t particularly high, yet it could still attack and kill the Ghosts he summoned. This indicated that these virtual monsters operated under a different killing logic. It instantly reminded Zhui Yi of the massive horrors Chen Mo had previously encountered in the Chaos Origin Land. Those massive horrors were typical of entities that killed on contact, irrespective of attributes. These virtual monsters, Zhui Yi had felt, bore a strong resemblance to them. Even if the Ghosts possessed Divine Power exceeding ten thousand, the virtual monsters could kill them instantly.
This level of lethality made Zhui Yi considerably more cautious in his subsequent actions. This was mainly because the attributes of illusion beasts were difficult for even the Eye of Origin to clearly discern; otherwise, Zhui Yi wouldn’t have needed to be so careful. He was unsure of the reason illusion beasts could instantly kill Ghosts: was it an inherent antagonism between them, or were illusion beasts simply that overwhelmingly powerful against any unit?
Moreover, it was already difficult to discern directions in the mist. Zhui Yi had to use Ghosts to mark his path, barely managing to avoid getting lost.
However, upon reaching the location specified in the mission Chen Mo had received, he found no corpse. Finding this odd, Zhui Yi decided to return outside first and discuss with Chen Mo how to proceed. Although Zhui Yi possessed wisdom comparable to Chen Mo’s, he knew that someone examining a problem alone might miss certain blind spots. As the proverb says, “The player is lost, the watcher is clear.” Two equally wise individuals discussing a problem might solve a puzzle that one person alone could not.
However, while Zhui Yi was making his way out, despite his utmost caution, he was attacked by an illusion beast. To his great surprise, the illusion beast’s attack on a person wasn’t an instant kill. It seemed to reserve that lethality specifically for Undead Units. But being attacked by an illusion beast was still a terrible experience, because a portion of one’s Divine Power would be forcibly converted into hidden Divine Power. Although this conversion was temporary, Zhui Yi could sense that if he continued to be attacked by illusion beasts, this temporary conversion would eventually become permanent.
After discovering this, he naturally wanted to hurry out and inform Chen Mo even more. After all, he knew he had already spent considerable time in the Grave of Gods. He worried that if Chen Mo couldn’t resist entering and was subsequently attacked by an illusion beast, causing a permanent decrease in Divine Power, it would be a significant loss.
After accessing Zhui Yi’s memories, Chen Mo realized that the difficulty of this five-star mission, acknowledged by the Adventurer’s Guild in the third area, was truly extraordinary.
These illusion beasts are so formidable, yet the natives still dare to enter one after another. Clearly, while the Grave of Gods held dangers, it also offered substantial rewards.
