Chapter 149: Chapter 104: Not Worthy to Speak to Me
The endless zombies were babbling incoherently, making Lu Wenwu’s head feel like it was about to split.
Mao Mao looked at him with a tense expression, waiting for his master’s order.
Lan Shan assumed a combat stance, her arms covered in waves that flowed as if they were alive.
Lu Wenwu thought for a moment, then raised his hand and punched.
The violent fist force was like a giant speeding train, crushing everything in its path into lumps of flesh, smearing the streets and surrounding buildings with a layer of sticky blood plasma.
Lu Wenwu’s punch was so powerful that it instantly cleared all the zombies from the entire street.
It even collapsed a distant skyscraper, rumbling down and sending out strong shockwaves and clouds of dust.
At that moment, countless zombies wandering in the city heard the deafening roar and began to surge in continuously, roaring incessantly.
The streets, which had just been cleared not long ago, returned to the crowded scenes reminiscent of the Badaling Great Wall during the National Day holiday in just a few seconds.
The zombies were shoulder to shoulder, staggering and charging forward.
Occasionally, a zombie would slip on the slick blood plasma and fall comically, being trampled by the relentless tide of corpses from behind, forced to become part of it, and continually wriggling, trying to stand again.
This bizarre scene made even Lu Wenwu feel a bit troubled.
Now, in the analysis of the Eye of Insight, the prompt box almost filled his entire view.
They were everywhere!
The blood plasma was filled with blood bars repeatedly cleared and constantly growing!
“This place isn’t safe for a prolonged stay, the Puppet Apostles are a bit tricky, looks like it’s going to be a long fight.”
Lu Wenwu, in a rare decision, chose to temporarily retreat, transforming into an excellent cleaner once more, clearing the streets with a punch.
As Mao Mao transformed into flame patterns, he picked up Lan Shan, spread the Demon Dragon Wings, and flew straight up into the sky, looking down at the wave of zombies below that resembled a massive black tide.
A torrent of muttering and frenzied howling poured into Lu Wenwu’s mind, countless voices of despair instantly filling his brain.
If not for the tempering through the Influence Body Refining Skill, which made Lu Wenwu’s soul extraordinarily resilient, he would likely have lost his mind by now.
While retreating in the sky, he suddenly admired a certain bald professor.
This ability to listen to countless voices is indeed not something anyone can endure.
He wondered how those True Gods listening to prayers could resist not slapping each of their continuously chattering followers.
Moreover, these chaotic voices were maddeningly hysterical, like the last dream mumblings of those in despair.
After finding a place free of zombies to settle down temporarily, Lu Wenwu realized his top priority was to find a way to shut off soul perception.
Otherwise, he’d die from annoyance as soon as more zombies appeared.
About two weeks passed, and Lu Wenwu successfully explored a bidirectional self-enclosure method, solving this issue.
Then…
Then the task progression got stuck.
From the start of entering the Puppet Apostle’s territory, by the third week.
Attempts to communicate with the zombies and inquire about the Puppet Apostle’s location, yielded no results.
Most of them had already gone mad or had a mental breakdown, not having the slightest idea where the Puppet Apostle was.
By the fourth week.
Attempts were made to completely kill zombies through soul, flame, spirit, and physical attacks, achieving half success.
The closest to a complete kill was when Lu Wenwu and Lan Shan jointly suppressed a zombie with spiritual and soul pressure.
Simultaneously, Lu Wenwu and Mao Mao unleashed three different flames to attack the zombie’s body, trying to destroy its shell and soul together, hoping to completely terminate it.
Just when they were about to succeed, the opponent’s damaged soul suddenly showed signs of change and vanished!
Not burned away but directly teleported by some force!
The remaining body completely disappeared.
But this couldn’t be considered a kill, the system didn’t even trigger a kill feedback.
Yet, it invigorated Lu Wenwu and Lan Shan.
This was enough to prove that zombies weren’t entirely immortal, just that they weren’t being killed fast enough.
By the fifth week.
The complete killing experiment ended in failure, they tried every method possible to intercept the escaping souls, but none were effective.
The escape was as swift as the dispersal of a Demon God’s projection, too fast for the Eye of Insight to capture.
Lu Wenwu speculated it might be some unknown spatial maneuver.
By the sixth week.
The duo and their dog started sweeping through cities, towns, and large villages in the Puppet Apostle’s domain map by map, in hopes of finding traces of the Puppet Apostle.
By the seventh week.
A new type appeared among the zombies, those who had turned into player zombies, retaining all their attributes and skills from life, with regeneration abilities ten times that of ordinary zombies.
Sadly, their spiritual will had completely collapsed, providing no useful information.
Lu Wenwu attempted to trigger the side quest “Dust to Dust, Ashes to Ashes,” but it ended in failure too.
By the eighth week…
By the ninth week…
By the tenth week…
Before he knew it, Lu Wenwu had been wandering in the Puppet Apostle’s domain for three full months.
He’s “killed” at least tens of millions of zombies.
But it was merely a pseudo-kill, he hadn’t truly killed a single zombie completely.
This left Lu Wenwu feeling very frustrated at one point.
He could only keep venting by resorting to the method of “city slaughter.”
