Chapter 1793: Manager Lara’s visit
Crystal City
The ten Supreme Wizards started their work. They left the hotel to collect information, working closely with the Crystal Community.
To the locals, they were just passersby. Only a Supreme Wizard or a Magic Lord could see through their strength. But which Supreme Wizard or Magic Lord actually walks on the footpath?
So, the locals treated them like any other traveling strangers. These Supreme Wizards were cautious; they interacted with some locals to gather information, but they didn’t want to draw attention.
Otherwise, it would alert the local wizard associations, who wouldn’t hesitate to grab and interrogate them.
A sharp-nosed, middle-aged man left after speaking with a local. He was one of the ten Supreme Wizards.
“This shop owner, Frank, doesn’t seem to be much of a threat. His only relative is Manager Lara. If the Auction House owner wants, he can proceed with the plan without a worry,” he muttered to himself, not knowing someone in the neighboring street heard his words.
The person was none other than Otto. Otto was shocked to find that people from the Tulip Auction House were here.
If not for the middle-aged man’s self-muttering from time to time, he wouldn’t have obtained so much information.
Time passed.
Otto continued to follow the Supreme Wizards and overheard their information. Gradually, he started to understand what was going on.
Earlier, the Tulip Auction House was on their list of many suspects. Yet, the auction house owner had decided to use the Master’s shop as a scapegoat.
Otto felt a chill. He had underestimated the wizards living there. For selfish purposes, they had decided to harm the Master.
Having collected more than enough information, Otto thought it was enough for the Master to confirm the situation. He then went back home.
Otto called for me. I left my room and went to meet him. Patrick, Hank, and old man Rock were there as well. We all took our seats.
“Master, you won’t believe it. The Tulip Auction House has sent ten Supreme Wizards to probe our strength,” Otto said.
Gasp!
Hank let out a small exclamation; he found the news explosive.
“They dare not enter the community because of old man Rock,” Otto added.
A quick gleam appeared in my eyes. As I guessed, no force would cause trouble here unless they had a Magic Lord in their family.
“Anything else?” I asked.
“Master, it appears that the Auction House owner is ready to make a scapegoat. That scapegoat is you,” Otto said, not mincing his words.
“I know,” I replied.
The three of them were taken aback. Then they realized the earlier advice given by the Master, the Silver Tower, was behind them.
We spoke about a few other things and then parted ways. I returned to my room and phoned Manager Lara. I told her about the findings. Even Lara was shocked.
“Something is not adding up. The Auction House owner is from a Wizard Family that is an ally of the Flame Elemental Tower.”
“Normally, that Wizard Family wouldn’t dare go against the Silver Tower, but this time, they are trying it. Either they think I’m easy to convince, or there is some conspiracy behind it. Don’t worry, I will come to your place tomorrow morning,” Lara said in a serious tone.
She connected the dots and came to a conclusion. She had deterred many forces during the banquet that day.
Later, a Wizard Association had even sent their Magic Lord to probe, but even he was defeated and went back injured.
She had thought no one would cause problems for Vincent Carey, but this Auction House had come up with a false accusation scheme.
“Vincent, don’t worry. You just stay there. Don’t reveal your identity,” she said before ending the call.
I put away the device. I wasn’t afraid. If something happened, I would take everyone inside the Gregor Mansion.
Then, no one would be able to find us. But if formal accusations were made, it would be tricky to solve the problem because there were no cameras installed in the office room. I had done that for my own privacy.
If things went south, I could only ask for help from Lord Erwin.
The Next Day
Manager Lara arrived as she had promised. She didn’t hide her presence, and her arrival once again became major news in the city.
She was not only a Manager of the Silver Tower, but a Magic Lord herself. A Magic Lord anywhere is treated with respect.
The members all greeted her as they waited in the living area. I took her to the office room. On the way, Lara’s eyes scanned the gallery.
She noticed many empty shelves and glass containers, meaning that some of the items had been successfully sold.
“Your business is doing well,” Lara said with a smile.
Noticing her gaze, I looked at the empty shelves. “It was going well. But the recent news made the customers stop coming,” I replied as we entered the office. We took our seats.
“If you want, you can ask for help from the Wizard Families in the Magic City. I’m sure they must have heard the news,” Lara suggested.
A quick gleam appeared in my eyes. As far as I knew, those wizard families were selfish. I wasn’t expecting any genuine help from them.
If I wanted to, I could ask for help from the old man Martin at the bookstore, but I wasn’t willing to reveal my identity yet because I was still unclear about his background.
“Manager Lara, since Lord Erwin is here, there is no need to think about anything else,” I told her.
Lara smiled and said, “You are right. I don’t know what the owner of the Auction House is planning.”
“Who gave him the guts to go against me? His family has a dying Magic Lord ancestor; I could easily kill him. I think something else is going on. Something we lack information on.”
Hearing that, my heart stirred. I had the same idea. I had old man Rock with me, and he was no pushover either.
Lara saw through my thoughts. “Don’t think too much. Since I’m here, I’ll use my connections,” she assured me.
I didn’t know what to say, so I simply nodded.
