GREED: ALL FOR WHAT? - Chapter 2088 - 2088: Preparing For The Inevitable.

The god of justice had required two pathways in order to kill the single-pathway god of killers. Now that he is combining the pathway of killing and the pathway of undying, it can be said that he will have the qualifications to challenge the god of justice.
After all, he will have the strongest attack power of the killing pathway and the strongest defense power of the undying pathway. These two pathways are at least enough to match the god of justice.
This qualification is very important because he is currently on the path to becoming an enemy of the god of justice. He is joining the lamp bearers and planning to take advantage of them. There is no greater offense than that to the god of justice, so he better start to prepare for when he will fall out with the god of justice.
He had his mind made up, and Captain Sheckel could see it. So she sighed and said, “In that case, there is nothing more to be said. I wish you good luck.”
She stood up and offered her hand for a shake. He took her hand and shook it.
Then she called someone else to take him away. This person would be the one to help him become a godclad.
He followed the person around the dim corridors of the underground floor. The underground floor was very big, but the man took him down below to another floor. Apparently, there were at least two underground floors below the building.
Along the way to their destination, the man introduced himself. He said, “I am a merman. I am the custodian of the secret library of this department of lap bearers. My job is to help the lamp bearers keep their information secret.”
“The most important secret of any godclad is their talent and the pathway they are on. You shouldn’t tell anyone your pathway because your life depends on it.”
“Once someone knows your pathway, they will know what you’re capable of. They will know your strengths and your weaknesses, so they will be able to make the right preparations to deal with you.”
“So your pathway should be hidden as much as possible. Unfortunately, if the lamp bearers are to use you, they must know what you’re capable of. In order to keep you safe, only two people in the department should know your pathway. Those two people are the captain and me.”
“”If the other lamp bearers find out what your pathway is, they will have to keep it to themselves because of the oath they swore. So you don’t have to worry much about your secret being known to everyone.”
Legion listened attentively and nodded in understanding.
He agreed mostly with what the custodian said. He believes that it is important that the pathway he is on be kept a secret. But he doesn’t trust the oath, and he doesn’t trust the lamp bearers.
The oath won’t stop someone hell-bent on dying from spilling the secrets of the lamp bearers. The oath can only kill them halfway into exposing those secrets.
He also doesn’t trust the lamp bearers, especially since he knows that he will become enemies with them in the future. So, all in all, he doesn’t think his secret is safe by letting the lamp bearers know about it.
Fortunately, he already has the matter of protecting his secret settled. For now, he just needs enough power to acquire the path of undying on his own. The lamp bearers will give him that power.
He followed the custodian to a room. The custodian opened the door and went inside, leaving him outside.
He waited for a long time before the custodian came out carrying a sealed box. There was something jumping around in the box.
He knew what it was because the box became tempting to him. He couldn’t see what was in the box, but he could smell an intoxicating aroma coming from it.
All he needed to do to have whatever was so tempting was to grab the box from the custodian. But he didn’t do so.
He didn’t want to fight someone that is a godclad, and he didn’t want to offend the lamp bearers.
He thought to himself, “Besides, whatever is inside it is probably going to be mine. If it is not, then I’m sure I can get it on my own when I become powerful.”
He was sure that the box contained divine flesh. That would explain why whatever was inside it was trying to escape and why it was tempting him to fight over the box.
The divine flesh wants to escape. But he didn’t fall for its temptation. He and the custodian walked in silence until they reached another room.
This room had glass beakers and flasks. It had many types of equipment that helped him identify the room as a laboratory.
There was no one else in the room. The custodian placed the bow on the table, turned his back to Legion, and began rummaging through some drawers and shelves resting against one of the walls of the room.
Legion stood at the edge of the door without moving. No matter how tempting the box became, he didn’t lunge for it or try to grab it.
He just watched as the custodian worked.
The man took out some herbs from the shelves he was looking through. Then he ground them together with some blue stones and put them in a beaker.
Then he placed the beaker on a stove. He poured spirit water on the fire stones within the stove, which caused them to heat up and produce flames beneath the beaker.
As the custodian stirred the contents of the beaker over the fire, he spoke to Legion. He said, “What I am preparing for you is the auxiliary potion for the first step of the path of killing. It is very important in that it will enhance your chances of success and reduce your chances of mutation.”
