GREED: ALL FOR WHAT? - Chapter 2334: A Traveling Walker.

Chapter 2334: A Traveling Walker.
To top off the unfortunate circumstances like rotten cherry on stale cake, the humans don’t have a chain of command and a superior rank overseeing the entire defense.
Everyone is just working on their own and following their own orders. This means that even the little manpower that the humans have compared to the quantity of beasts cannot be used effectively.
If not for the fact that the inner city offered help, Legion would have quit defending the city early.
They would have quit because even if they could defend the city against this many enemies, it just wasn’t worth it to reveal so much power to do so. Besides, there were benefits for them to gain by quitting.
But the nobles sent men to assist them. Each noble sent at least one person to assist them. This single person was at the epic rank at the very least.
In reality, the reinforcement from the inner city was more than one person. There was sometimes just one epic person from a noble family. But they brought with them plenty of help in the form of rank 3 godclad subordinates.
There were six noble houses in total. Between all six of them, there were ten epic godclads. None of them was at rank 6.
Legion didn’t think they were going to be enough to defend the beast tides, but they were now willing to try to defend the city because they now have people that will take the blame with them if they fail.
While they were thinking this, they sent their slaves to destroy the siege weapons behind the army of beasts. They decided to make the first move instead of waiting for the beasts to attack before reacting.
They sent their giant and the traveler to do that job while their thief remained to control the rest of the defenders and give them orders. They also brought out Black Axe’s sister.
The giant activated all of his abilities and leaped from the wall into the army of beasts. Then he rushed straight for the siege weapons.
The traveler also dropped to the ground. But his appearance on the battlefield was more muted compared to the appearance of a giant with a metallic body stomping around and smashing everything in its way to bits.
The irony is that Legion only expected the traveler to succeed in fulfilling his mission. They did expect Golden Hammer to reach the siege weapons because he was too big. But they sent him anyway because they needed someone big and noisy enough to draw attention.
So Golden Hammer was the feint attack in this situation. The real hitter is the traveler. Legion is confident in the traveler because he is a rank 5 traveler and also a rank 5 walker.
Travelers are fast and difficult to kill even when they are surrounded by enemies. This is because of their rank 2 divine ability called Seeking Danger.
The Seeking Danger divine ability alerts travelers to danger before they experience it. Their rank 1 divine ability called Speed Boost, the rank 4 divine ability called Mirage, and the rank 5 divine ability called Mirage Shift make it easier and easier for them to avoid the danger that they sensed.
The rank 4 Mirage ability creates copies of the traveler meant to deceive anyone targeting them. The copies are real, not illusions, but they are as fragile as glass, so they will break with a single touch.
The main purpose of the mirage copies is to confuse enemies. A traveler can produce up to 16 of them at once. This will make it very difficult to tell which of the copies is real, which will make it difficult to target the traveler effectively.
The Mirage divine ability is already difficult to deal with alone, but when combined with the rank 5 Mirage Shift divine ability, it becomes even more difficult because the traveler can now swap places with their copies.
Thanks to the Mirage Shift divine ability, even if an enemy is lucky enough to target the real traveler from among the 17 options, the traveler will be able to sense the danger and switch places with another mirage in order to escape the danger.
As long as the traveler has spiritual energy, they will be able to continue to make mirages even when they are destroyed, and the traveler will also be able to continue switching between them.
To top things off, this traveler has the rank 4 Space Shift divine ability of the pathway of walkers. So if all else fails, the traveler will still be able to avoid damage by shifting away any attacks to their bodies.
These abilities make it very difficult for the traveler to be killed even when surrounded by tens of thousands of enemies. It can even be said that the traveler is capable of walking across the battlefield as if he is on a vacation.
This is why, even though the traveler slave doesn’t hit as hard as the giant, Legion is counting more on him to take down the siege weapons and prevent the beasts from breaching their defenses. But they still brought out their death walker for insurance.
The beasts don’t know what Legion has planned, but there was no way they were going to stand around waiting when the enemy had already attacked.
After the giant fell into their midst and began his rampage, the men on the walls began shooting their weapons. For now, they were shooting the guns and ballistae because these have a longer range of attacks.
In order to retaliate, the rank 6 beasts roared and gave the order for their assault to begin. The four beasts fired off different orders, which led to various immediate reactions in their ranks.
The first reaction was that a group of epic beasts rushed towards the giant and the traveler to take them down.
This reaction happened because the rank 6 beasts had recognized that these two godclads were too powerful for the rest of their army to handle and too dangerous to be left alone, so they sent a capable group to eliminate them.
