GREED: ALL FOR WHAT? - Chapter 2335: Many Reactions.

Chapter 2335: Many Reactions.
The groups of beasts sent to deal with Legion’s two slaves consisted of rank 5 and rank 4 beasts. There were ten of them in each group, so twenty epic beasts in total were to be used to neutralize two epic godclads.
The second reaction that was created in the army because of the orders of the four rank 6 beasts was that the siege weapons began to fire. Large stones were thrown at the wall and the top of the wall.
This attack wasn’t as deadly as the beasts would have wanted because the catapults and trebuchets were not accurate during their first volley. Some attacks landed before the wall, and some landed beyond to strike the city behind.
Most of the stones that were thrown missed the wall itself. This will continue to be the car until the siege weapons are properly calibrated or moved into the range of the walls in their current state.
While this calibration was going on, the third reaction was being executed. This third reaction was for the flying beasts to fly over the wall and drop bottles of oil that had been lit with fire onto the defensive structures on top of the walls.
Just like the humans were targeting their siege weapons, the beasts had also made plans to target their defensive weapons. Their methods were crude, but it showed initiative.
It was rare for the glass bottles of burning oil to hit a specific weapon, and even if they hit some weapons like guns, the fire wouldn’t harm the cannons because they were made of metal.
But what the fire did to the men manning the weapons was more than enough to render some weapons temporarily useless.
All that the bottles of burning oil needed to be effective was to hit the top of the wall. The resulting explosion that occurred after the glass bottles broke made the men manning the weapons too busy to control and use their defensive weapons.
Because of the bottles of burning oil, fire was everywhere on the top of the wall and constituted a nuisance. It just so happened that fire and gunpowder don’t go well together, so the problem quickly became bigger than a nuisance.
Even when the men on the top of the walls began striking down the birds and preventing them from dropping more burning oil, this still worked to distract them from bothering with what was going down below.
By now the godclads that were sent by the noble family had begun to take action. The machinist puppet and warriors among them were using their guns or bows and arrows to take down the aerial enemies. This prevented them from joining the resistance efforts against the new action of the beast army.
The fourth order was being executed immediately. The beast tide was rushing forward to smash into the wall.
This action looked like a flock of birds flying towards a glass door. It looked like a suicidal charge, but it wasn’t a useless one because the beast leaders were smarter than they looked.
It is true that the weak beasts were being sent to their deaths. But their deaths would have meaning because some of these weak beasts were strapped with gunpowder bombs.
The beasts had gotten the molotov cocktails that the birds were dropping and the bombs from merchants. Some of them could communicate with humans, so it is reasonable that they could buy the things they needed for a successful attack.
It was also possible that a human was advising the beasts. It wouldn’t even be far-fetched that a human was controlling them. If anything, it would explain where they got the wisdom to plan these layers of action.
The weak beasts smashed into the walls again and again. Their charge didn’t harm the wall, but they were gunned down by the offensive arrays, which were now taking effect on enemies getting too close to the wall.
The main offensive array was flamethrowers. They were unleashed onto the beasts like a sea of fire trying to drown the beast tide. But what happened was that the offensive arrays were quickly overwhelmed and destroyed.
The destruction of the flamethrowers was all because of the bombs that the beasts were carrying. The bombs exploded when they came into contact with the fire and disrupted the sea of fire.
The explosion also harmed the beasts. But they didn’t stop. They continued to rush forward until they got close enough to the flamethrowers to destroy them with the bombs.
Next came the walls. Bombs were piled up at the base of the wall. Then Molotov cocktails were dropped from above onto them.
A large hole was blasted at the base of the wall. The beasts cheered and rushed into this hole to assault the city beyond it.
Legion snorted when this happened. But they weren’t flustered because they had already prepared for something like this.
The thief slave quickly barked orders, which led to the remaining men and women congregating at the other side of the hole. These defenders began gunning and cutting down the beasts.
The beasts had succeeded in creating a passage to the city. But by trying to use this passage, they had funneled themselves into a situation where they couldn’t use the advantage of numbers against the humans anymore.
If they could break the final barricade of resistance, nothing would be able to stop their invasion of the city. But until then, they are literally rats in a barrel.
To make sure that they will remain rats in a barrel, Legion made their death walker finally make a move. A battlefield like this is the best place for a godclad like her to act.
She stood on the walls and raised her hands up. As she did, she activated her rank 4 divine ability called Raise Undead.
This caused all of the corpses around her to rise and fight for her. This in turn, meant that every corpse was fighting for Legion.
