GREED: ALL FOR WHAT? - Chapter 2336: Death Walker.

Chapter 2336: Death Walker.
The corpses around the death walker were those of the many beasts and the few humans that had died recently. So most of the corpses were from beasts.
They corpses of the beasts were mostly from those who died in the earlier explosion and the beasts who are currently dying in the tunnel that they have made and the beasts dying to the flamethrowers below and the beasts dying to the guns from above.
So the death walker had a lot of corpses to work with. This continued to be the case as the battle dragged on.
With a single divine ability, she became an entity walking amongst the dead and every living being close to her became too close to death for comfort. She had embodied what it meant to be a death walker.
The corpses of the beasts rose up from the dead and began to fight their comrades. This reduced the number of the defenders quickly and made the humans begin to gain an advantage in terms of numbers.
The beasts retaliated by blowing more holes in the walls, but this always came at a cost of lives, and thanks to the death walker, every life that was lost was used against them.
As more and more flamethrowers were destroyed and more holes were blown into the wall, the second layer of offensive array was activated to help with the defense.
This second layer of offensive arrays were still flamethrowers. But they were attached higher up in the wall where explosions couldn’t reach.
Now that this second set of flamethrowers was activated, they rained down fire from above onto the beasts rushing into the tunnels. This increased the number of corpses available for the death walker to use.
As long as there are corpses and spiritual energy, death walkers can easily become the greatest enemies of knights on the battlefield. The threat of death walkers only increases as they grow stronger.
In the case of this slave, she is a rank 5 death walker and thus has the Undead Growth divine ability. This is a divine ability that allows the undead that the death walker grows to rise to one rank above them by eating flesh.
Since she is rank 5, the Undead Growth divine ability can help the rank 1 undead beasts grow to rank 6. It will be a slow growth that can be interrupted by killing the undead again, but it represents the potential to turn an ordinary undead into a formidable weapon.
Legion was giving her corpses to work with and was even supporting her with spiritual energy, so she was becoming more and more dangerous as time went on. The beasts remained trapped in the wall, unable to make progress.
Even if they made progress, Legion still had the defensive arrays to employ. There were two of them too.
One of the defensive arrays was a confusion array. It would create illusions that would stall the beasts and make them run around in circles.
The second defensive array was a barrier array. It would outright block the way into the city so that the beasts will be unable to pass.
The two defensive arrays are to be used in case of emergency. Their use will give the defenders time to recover and push back the beasts.
But as things appeared, it didn’t seem like they would need it. What’s more is that the traveler has finally reached the siege weapons and has begun to destroy them.
The traveler didn’t fight the beasts sent to stop it. And since he didn’t want to fight, he couldn’t be stopped at all. He managed to make it to the back of the army and began destroying the siege weapons right in front of the eyes of the rank 6 leaders.
But the rank 6 leaders didn’t move to stop the traveler. Instead of doing that, they moved back and appeared to retreat.
Their action was confusing. One would think they were up to something nefarious because of their suspicious actions. After all, they ought to be defending their siege weapons, not watching them get destroyed.
Legion could confirm that the beasts were indeed up to something. They had their fate weaver to thank for that.
But despite knowing that the beasts were scheming, they still went ahead to destroy the siege weapons. They honestly didn’t care about the scheme that the beasts were planning. It didn’t concern them directly, so they didn’t bother with it.
The rank 6 beasts continued to watch on in a detached manner. Some of them even had a sneer on their face despite the fact that the humans appeared to be winning.
What they were waiting for appeared a few minutes later. They and everyone on the battlefield heard the sounds of explosions in other parts of the city.
These explosions came from bombs that had been smuggled onto the other parts of the wall. Apparently, the beasts had been attacking more than this section of this wall.
The beasts attacked this section of this wall because they thought that the humans would expect them to do so and would therefore concentrate their defensive power onto this part of this wall.
They thought that their guess was right after they saw how their army was being defeated. So when the other sections of the wall were breached, they quickly roared to order their army to split and attack the city wall from the other breaches.
The large beast army split into two immediately. Half of them went to the left, while the other half went to the right. Two rank 6 beasts went along with the army to each side.
This was why they hadn’t cared about their siege weapons. The siege weapons were too heavy to move, so they couldn’t be used for their true plan.
It appeared that the siege weapons had been destroyed for nothing, but Legion didn’t think so. If anything, the destruction of the siege weapons has now left the beasts with no other option to fall back onto.
