GREED: ALL FOR WHAT? - Chapter 2337: Staying In Their Post.

Chapter 2337: Staying In Their Post.
Without siege weapons, this section of the wall has become completely unlikely to be taken down. Whatever it is that the beats are planning will have to succeed somewhere else.
The beasts will have to attack the city from other weaker sections of the city if they hope to get into the city. And as luck would have it, there are many weaker sections of the walls.
The action of the beasts caused this section of the wall to become deserted. It appeared that the Golden Hammer gang had succeeded in defending their territory, but the beast tide was far from over.
Even from where they stood, they could hear the sounds of fighting. Those with better eyesight could see how the battle was faring, and what they saw painted a bad picture.
The humans were losing the battle, and they were losing badly. This didn’t surprise Legion at all. They expected it to happen because only they and their neighbors were preparing for the attack.
The other gang leaders didn’t prepare for the beast tide at all, or they didn’t prepare with all of their might because they didn’t think they would be attacked and because they thought the Golden Hammer gang would fail.
If they had prepared with all of their might and done their best to shore up their defenses to resist the beast tide, but the beast tide didn’t attack them, they would have wasted their time and effort. They didn’t want this to happen, so many of them only did surface preparation.
Besides, if the section of the wall on the Golden Hammer gang’s side is breached and the beasts enter the city through the Golden Hammer’s position, they want to be able to quickly reinforce the Golden Hammer gang and stop the beasts from reaching the inner city.
If this happened and they successfully repelled the beast tide in the Golden Hammer gang’s territory, they would be entitled to a lot of benefits, which will be taken after the Golden Hammer gang is disbanded and all of their wealth confiscated.
This outcome and possibility is what they prioritized above preparing for the beast tide. This meant most of their men weren’t on the wall to fight off the beast tide but were somewhere else getting ready to march into the territory of the Golden Hammer gang.
The lack of manpower and the lack of defensive arrays, offensive arrays, and guns meant that the wall didn’t stand any chance of resisting the beast tide. It was broken quickly, and the beast entered the outer city in droves.
The men that the noble families sent saw this happening and weren’t happy. Their duty was to defend the city, so they had to go over to resist the beast tide. But before they left to do their duty, they asked the Golden Hammer gang to come with them.
The thief slave said to them, “This might be another plan of the beasts to make us let down our guard and be distracted. We can’t leave yet and must be prepared for another attack.”
Legion didn’t want to go defend the territory of their enemies and still wouldn’t do so if the entire city was at stake. If anything, they are hoping that the beasts deal a deadly blow to the power of the city.
But they can’t speak about their true intentions. They could only give a reasonable explanation as to why they don’t want to go.
And what they said was reasonable too. The helpers from the noble families couldn’t find fault with the thief’s explanation.
Even if they could find fault with his reason, they had no power to force the thief to comply with them. They could only leave on their own with some mild disappointment.
Legion watched them go through the eyes of his slaves and sneered to himself, “What nonsense. We do our job, and we do it well, but now we have to do other people’s jobs too? Hilarious!”
There is actually something to gain if they go and join the resistance. But they don’t think that whatever they will gain is worth leaving their post to join a fight that doesn’t concern them.
They especially don’t want to leave after their fate weaver sensed that the beasts still had something up their sleeve. The fate weaver couldn’t tell what it was. She could only sense that it was dangerous.
The verdict is that if they go and join the battle, they will encounter something dangerous. So they decided not to join the battle and instead chose to stand by and watch.
Not many people have their foresight, though. It can even be said that this was what they had been preparing for. So they rushed to join the battle against the beast tide.
To be honest, what they had prepared for was to resist the beast tide in the territory of the Golden Hammer gang. That isn’t what happened exactly, but something like what they planned for still occurred.
Since the territory they are going to reinforce doesn’t belong to the Golden Hammer gang, they won’t gain as much as they hoped for. But they will still gain something by joining the resistance.
The alternative is to stand by and watch. But they won’t gain any benefit by doing that. So many gangs sent their forces to the two sites of battle.
As the two sides clashed, many living beings, both human and beast, died. People and beasts were dying at every moment. Even epic godclads weren’t safe.
This much death caused the earth to be littered with corpses and for it to be soaked in blood. The blood was really a lot. It pooled over the ground like puddles of water formed after a rain.
There also wasn’t a death walker to turn the corpses into undead, so the condition was perfect for what the beasts planned to do next.
Their next move wasn’t as fancy or elaborate as their previous actions. They simply took out a red seed and planted it into the blood-soaked ground in the outer city.
