GREED: ALL FOR WHAT? - Chapter 2437: Deep Trap.

Chapter 2437: Deep Trap.
While they chuckled, they decided to pull back the virtual copy, but the Predict divine ability began to warn them again of danger. This turn of events made all of them become serious.
Legion-1 said with a solemn tone, “It seems this was a trap, and we have already walked into it.”
Legion-2 said, “The trap could be from the legendary illusionist or from the legendary telepaths. But I am willing to bet that it is from the telepaths.”
“After all, they knew we were looking for the illusionists. If they wanted to ambush us or trap us, all they needed to do was to use the illusionist as bait, make some arrangements around him, and wait for us to take the bait.”
Legion-3 said with some admiration, “But it seems that we don’t need to take the bait to fall into the trap. All we needed to do was appear around the bait to be trapped. This is a good trap.”
Legion-10 gritted his teeth and said with anger, “These treacherous bastards. We will wipe them all out one day.”
Legion-2 continued to think aloud, “Even if it isn’t the telepaths that made the trap, I still think that they have something to do with it because they are one of the few people who know about the virtual copies and can trap it just like what is happening right now.”
Legion-1 nodded and said, “They could have also just told the illusionist that we were coming, so they planned the trap together.”
Legion-4 groaned and said, “The virtual flesh can’t go forward and can’t withdraw. So what do we do now?”
Despite how bad the situation seemed to be, they were not without an option. The only option left was to disperse the virtual copy and lose the little white translucent man, but they did so without a heartbeat.
They didn’t know what the source of danger was, but they decided to listen to the divine ability about it. Besides, they have very little to lose by giving up on the virtual flesh. They could always make more of it anyway.
On the other side of the world, the demigod watching the virtual copy was happy to see the inaction of their virtual copy. She had watched as the virtual copy entered her trap and suddenly stopped.
She is a demigod telepath, and the trap that she laid for Legion was based on the Sensory Hijack divine ability. So everything the virtual copy was seeing was an illusion.
There was no illusionist at all. There was only a trap where the illusionist should have been.
The trap also had a second mechanism that employed the divine abilities of her second pathway, the pathway of fate, to track the location of the body of the owner of the virtual copy through the virtual copy.
What she wanted to do with the trap was to infect the virtual copy with her rank 8 divine ability called Mind Plague. This is mental contagion that spreads through the mind and mental contact.
So it didn’t matter that the virtual copy wasn’t doing anything when it entered her trap. It had already been infected as soon as it was trapped, and the longer it makes contact with her trap, the more of the mind plague it will take on.
Then after a while, the mind plague will erupt and infect the main body directly. So the longer the virtual copy stayed in the trap, the better.
Of course there is no escape from the trap. After all, it is a mental one, not a physical one. Distance will not grant safety.
But if she notices that the virtual copy has sensed danger and is trying to escape early, she will trigger the mind plague early on while trying to find the location of the main body through it.
She is doing this because it is her advancement requirement for rank 9. In order for telepaths to become angels, they must subdue other telepaths.
The need to defeat and subdue other godclads of one’s pathway in order to become an angel is actually a common theme. Telepaths and slavers clearly have to do something like it.
Killers don’t need to do so. Killers can become angels by killing a lot of people, but undying godclads will have the option to do something similar when they want to advance to the rank of angel.
Every pathway requires their godclads to prove that they are superior to the other godclads in their pathway in one way or another for them to become angels.
After all, angels are supposed to be the best in the pathway. Not just anyone should be able to become an angel. This is why something like this is common.
Illusionists need to deceive other illusionists, and warriors need to defeat other warriors. Only when someone has proved themselves worthy will they be allowed to become an angel and gain the chance to become the god of the pathway.
For example, while killers don’t need to fight each other in order to become angels, there is a limited slot for angels in the pathway, and only the killers with the highest kill count get to be angels once this limit has been reached.
So being an angel of killing is not permanent. They have to keep their kill count high above others, or they will lose their status as angels of killing.
For judges, the way they compete with each other and prove their superiority is to wipe out sinful people from the world. So while judges don’t kill each other, they have to kill many other people.
For telepaths, they need to brainwash other people and godclads if they want to advance to rank 8. They must do it well enough that the changes that make with a target’s memories are subtle and enough to deceive both the target and other people.
This action will not go to waste because all the people they brainwashed at rank 7 will become the source and foundation of their Mind Plagues when they advance to rank 8.
