Harem System In A fantasy World - Chapter 135: Gale Family

Chapter 135: Gale Family
Meanwhile, Ashford City (the main trade hub of the Veloria Kingdom)
Inside the grand manor of the wealthy merchant Gale, warm light filled the dining hall. A long polished table stood at the center, covered in fine dishes and shining silverware. Servants moved quietly along the walls, refilling glasses and replacing plates with careful hands.
For the first time since enrolling in the academy, Mira was here to have dinner with her family.
The atmosphere was lively.
Her father sat at the head of the table, posture straight, eyes sharp even at home. Her elder brother lounged comfortably to one side, already halfway through his second glass of wine. And across from Mira sat her mother.
A beautiful woman.
She looked like an older version of Mira. In fact, she looked so much like Mira that it was hard to tell who resembled whom more. Maybe it was more appropriate to say Mira looked like a younger version of her mother.
They shared the same dark, wavy hair that framed delicate features. The same clear emerald green eyes. The same calm presence.
“How was your time at the academy, my daughter?” her mother asked gently.
Her voice was warm, but observant.
Mira smiled as she cut into her steak neatly.
“It was fine, Mother.”
Her tone was light. Controlled.
Her brother snorted softly. “Just fine? The Royal Academy isn’t exactly a countryside school.”
Mira glanced at him briefly. “It is still a school.”
Her father chuckled at that, swirling the wine in his glass. “You always did keep your thoughts to yourself.”
Her mother studied her more closely.
“You made friends?” she asked.
Mira paused for half a second before answering. “A few.”
Not a lie.
Not the full truth either.
Her brother leaned forward slightly. “Anyone interesting?”
That question lingered a bit longer than the others.
Mira kept her gaze on her plate.
“There are many interesting people at the academy.”
Her mother’s lips curved faintly.
“But?” she pressed softly.
Mira finally looked up.
“But nothing worth worrying about.”
Her father raised a brow at that choice of words but said nothing.
The conversation drifted toward lessons, instructors, and academy politics. Her brother spoke about business opportunities tied to noble families. Her father asked about professors by name.
Mira answered calmly and clearly.
But beneath her composed smile, her thoughts were elsewhere.
She took another quiet bite of her meal.
“It was fine,” she repeated softly.
But for some reason, the word no longer felt accurate.
Gale wiped his mouth with a clean cloth and cleared his throat.
“I hear,” he said slowly, “that you found a man for yourself in Grimholt City.”
The sound of utensils against porcelain stopped at once.
Even the servants seemed to move more quietly.
Across the table, Mira’s mother’s smile widened slightly. Not shocked. Curious.
“Is that true?” she asked gently. “Why didn’t you think to tell your mother?”
Mira’s eyes shifted calmly toward the old man standing beside the table.
“You heard from Silas?” she asked.
The elderly escort stiffened. He had just placed a bowl of dessert in front of Gale. His hands paused for half a second before he lowered his head slightly.
“Well… yes.”
Mira gave a small nod.
“It’s true,” she said evenly. “I found a husband for myself.” It was obvious that in a society such as this, where strength, connections, and wealth served you more than anything else, there were stages to a relationship between a man and a woman.
If Mira had said a boyfriend, or a man, as her father did, or maybe even a fiancée, the mother and father might have written it off as one of the fleeting relationships young people had, like they did when they were younger, but as soon as Mira said husband, it was like she was drawing a clear line.
She was telling them straight to their faces that this is the man I am going to marry and spend the rest of my life with. Not a casual, temporary partner or boy toy.
Her mother’s brows lifted in surprise, though she did not look displeased.
Mira turned toward her with a soft smile.
“I didn’t think it was the right time to bring it up, Mother. But, Iwas going to tell you eventually.”
Her father’s expression sharpened.
“I trust his status is appropriate then,” Gale said firmly.
Mira looked at him without hesitation.
“If you mean to ask if he is a noble,” she replied calmly, “then no. And he has no backing whatsoever, not that I know of, no.” The way she said it so casually and confidently was infuriating.
Gale’s eyes widened.
“What?!” His voice rose sharply as he pushed back his chair and stood up. “I will not stand for this!”
Several servants nearly froze before forcing themselves to continue their tasks as if nothing had happened.
“How dare you waste my efforts and give yourself to some nobody!” Gale continued, face flushing red. “Do you remember what I told you when I agreed to send you to that academy!?”
His hand slammed lightly against the table.
“You were to find a worthy noble! A man who could help this family rise up within the noble hierarchy!”
Mira remained seated, calm, and composed.
Her smile did not vanish.
Of course, she remembered. It had been one of the conditions for using his connections to secure her enrollment, even if it was easy because she was a decent talent. But still, she had agreed at the time.
How would she explain that she had done just that? She had truly done as she had been told, and then Elion came and stole her away with those godly looks of his, and his powerful body, oh his Mmmm…
Just the memory of him made her rub her thighs together beneath the table.
The scene was almost comical.
A father red with anger.
A daughter looking calm, while trying to hide the heat that was slowly creeping up her cheeks, all while cutting her dessert neatly with a silver spoon.
She had expected this conversation one day.
She just hadn’t expected it the moment she returned home.
“What else did Silas tell you about him?” Mira asked quietly, looking up at her father, as she took a bite from her bowl of milk tart.
The sight only served to stir Gale’s anger.
