Harem System In A fantasy World - Chapter 142: Bloodlines

Chapter 142: Bloodlines
Elion was rich now.
Two weeks with Esme and Ophelia had filled his reserves far beyond what he once thought possible. Not to mention the level advancement he gained from completing that quest, which had pushed him to level thirty-six without much resistance.
He had also discovered something interesting about succubi during that time. They were natural masters of illusion magic, and once he placed the Harem Seal on the two of them, he gained access to their affinity and a few illusion-based spells corresponding to his current rank.
The deeper his understanding of an affinity grew, the more spells he could unlock, either naturally or by acquiring spell scrolls.
He didn’t know which one among the two succubi had given him access to a better core talent grade after using the harem seal, but he had improved his talent from gold grade to white grade!
Of course, he had told Esme and Ophelia about the death penalty that came with having the harem seal. He thought maybe that would make them think twice about it, given their nature; he had doubts at the back of his mind whether succubi could be faithful to one man or not.
But it seemed he had been worried for nothing. They accepted without so much as a shred of doubt. Everything was progressing smoothly.
In fact, he would say things were going too smoothly. There was only one issue bothering him, though.
His eyes narrowed slightly as he looked back at his stats.
They were still high, undeniably impressive for someone his age, but one thing did not escape his notice. The growth per level was no longer as explosive as it had once been. The numbers were increasing, yes, but not with the ridiculous leaps he had grown accustomed to.
A faint irritation crept into his expression.
“Is the system trying to swindle me?” he muttered under his breath.
The response came immediately.
[Don’t be ridiculous, host. The system was made with your best interest in mind.]
Elion crossed his arms.
[Previously, stat improvements were calculated based on what your body could handle. At the time, your body was extremely weak, and the integration of the incubus bloodline raised your ceiling significantly. There was still a large gap between your baseline and your potential, which allowed for rapid improvement.]
The panel flickered faintly.
[Now, your stat improvements are only slightly greater than the most talented mages of your generation. Increasing them too aggressively per level would strain your body, cause internal instability, and inflict severe pain.]
Elion slowly nodded to himself.
It made sense.
When he first gained the incubus bloodline, his body had been playing catch-up to a new standard. The system had simply accelerated him to where he should have been. Now, however, he was approaching the natural limit of his current foundation.
Still, he was not satisfied.
It felt like being spoiled for weeks with massive rewards and effortless growth, only for it to suddenly slow down. Like receiving a generous salary and then waking up to find it cut in half.
“So how do I fix this sudden drop in stat progression?” he asked calmly.
[Not to worry, host. You will receive a massive stat increase upon advancing to higher mage ranks. With a bit of pain, of course.]
“That’s obvious,” Elion replied flatly. “But how do I get ridiculous growth per level again?”
There was a brief pause before the system answered.
[You must raise your talent ceiling once again and your body’s baseline strength. Purchasing a new bloodline from the store would achieve this.]
Elion’s eyes gleamed immediately.
“Well then, what are we waiting for?” he said with a grin. “I’m rich now, aren’t I?”
This time, the pause was longer.
[Oh… I don’t know about that.]
Elion frowned slightly.
[Bloodlines are… expensive.]
A faint warning tone lingered in the system’s voice.
“How expensive are we talking?”
[You will see.]
Elion’s smile widened slowly as he leaned forward.
“Open the store,” he ordered calmly. After all, he was rich. What did a rich man have to worry about when shopping? Nothing!
The blue interface shimmered, and the Bloodline section began to unfold before him.
It took Elion exactly one second. One scroll of the Bloodline tab. And his expression turned sour instantly.
“You have got to be kidding me.”
The numbers staring back at him were not just high. They were absurd! For a brief moment, he wondered if the system had added an extra zero by mistake.
He counted the zeros one by one.
It had not.
In short, it seemed he was going to have to live with “sub-par” stat growth for quite some time.
He scrolled slowly, eyes narrowing as the list expanded before him.

All of them carried prices that made his 247,000 points look like pocket change.
Elion leaned back slowly.
I have two hundred and forty-seven thousand.
The cheapest beast bloodline alone required one million.
He was not even close.
“Haha…” What could he do but laugh out hysterically? This system was hell-bent on humbling him! He knew it! He just couldn’t prove it yet!
