- Chapter 313 - 313: Jane's Interview.

Jane and Cassandra were always together; they had grown a strong bond at this point, but there was nothing wrong with this.
Cassandra gave her stability, but Jane wasn’t going to stay indoors all day, as she had a job interview to go to that day.
Cassandra helped prep her and wished her luck. Jane was glad she had her support; otherwise, she wasn’t sure what she would do in this situation.
Jane had on a corporate uniform with a fancy black trousers. She had to dress like she belonged, but at the same time, she couldn’t be too intimidating.
Jane was a nervous wreck, but the good thing about all of this was that she didn’t draw condescending stares from those around her because she dressed like she belonged.
She also chose to use a public mode of transportation so there wouldn’t be anything standing in the way.
Jane walked into a beauty salon, and it was one of the fanciest places she had been in right away.
Not only was it crowded, but the equipment within the building was all of the highest grade.
She was instantly intimidated because the women there had a different feel to them—she could tell right away that they grew up with money.
No, they were swimming in it, and this prompted her to lower her gaze.
She didn’t look anyone in the eye, as it might be deemed disrespectful, and the fact that she was coming here for a job would make this uncomfortable, should she even get the job.
“Welcome to KNOX Beauty Salon, how may I help you?” a lady asked Jane, but Jane wondered why she assumed she was a customer.
She didn’t think she looked like one, but Jane realised she had dressed a tad bit too formally.
She should have opted for the stylish route, but she didn’t want to risk it, as she had no idea what kind of professionalism they expected from those they worked with.
“N-No, I’m here for the interview,” Jane responded, and the lady before her looked visibly surprised by this.
“You are? Right this way,” the lady responded, directing Jane to another section of the building, which she complied with.
And just as she thought, she was the only one who had on a suit. Jane wanted to sink into the ground, as this was one of her worst fears manifesting in real time.
The ladies here were all beauties; there wasn’t a single one she could say looked average, but this was because this salon only accepted beautiful women.
How could it be a beauty salon if there weren’t beauties working in it?
This was one of the most important rules, and it felt like a modelling gig in a sense, because Jane had to send them her pictures.
Jane sat down, and none of the other girls paid her much attention, despite how she was dressed.
However, she noticed the eyes of a petite girl consistently glancing at her, but Jane was too wrecked with nerves to give this any meaning.
All she did was flash a polite smile and hoped there was nothing more to it.
Jane began to prepare mentally for the interview, and seconds bled into minutes as the ladies disappeared one at a time.
Jane kept rehearsing potential questions she could be asked. She had practised with ChatGPT before coming here, so it gave her a general idea of the potential questions that could be asked.
“Jane,” the lady with an iPad in hand called out to her, and Jane’s face instantly changed—she looked nervous.
“H-Here!” Jane stuttered as she got up to her feet. She noticed the other girl still looking at her before she mouthed the words,
“Good luck,” she said without opening her mouth. Jane gave her a sincere smile and nodded in gratitude.
She rushed into the room, but realistically, how hard could the interview be?
The fact that there were so many ladies, however, raised the competition, as they had the option to be selective.
Jane walked in, but there was no one seated across the table. All she saw was a laptop facing her.
It was clear this was going to be a video call, and there was no one present. However, Jane waited for over five minutes, but there was no one at the other end.
This made her anxious because it felt like she was being watched, and not once did she slouch or look relaxed.
She had the perfect posture and looked right at the camera, not once breaking eye contact, because there was no telling when the person meant to carry out the interview would be present.
This was the reason, as the last thing she would want was someone coming here and seeing her being aloof.
However, ten minutes passed, and this was approximately the same time it took the other applicants to round up their interview, but not once did Jane look away from the camera.
And shortly after, the door behind her opened. It was the same petite girl who was staring at her earlier.
Jane wondered if her time had elapsed, but either way, she must not have been chosen. Otherwise, they would have at least acknowledged her.
“I-I’m sorry,” Jane apologised to the girl standing behind her, assuming she wanted to take her seat.
However, the lady closed the laptop in front of her, and Jane was momentarily confused.
“I don’t think you’re supposed to do that…” Jane muttered under her breath, but the woman didn’t pay her much attention.
She had pale skin, like she was covered in powder, but her petite frame could easily make her pass as a child.
This wasn’t the case, however—this person now standing in front of her wasn’t a random individual.
“I’m the owner of this salon, and you’re hired,” the lady said with a smile, and Jane’s face went pale. She was in disbelief because she had done nothing.
“I-I am!?” Jane couldn’t contain her shock.
