- Chapter 316 - 316: A Mole?

The things happening in the underworld weren’t going unnoticed, and Cleopatra made sure to leave the bodies on the ground for the vultures.
However, it didn’t make the news for obvious reasons, as it wasn’t something that either party wanted.
Marcello heard about the attempt, and he was furious—not because they had failed, but because he hadn’t authorised any hit on Cleopatra.
“What do you mean she was attacked?” Marcello asked the man in front of him.
Viktor “The Butcher” Sokolov was one of the more radical heads of a family, as he had done unspeakable things to rule with fear alone.
No one dared to cross him, not even the Russian government, with which he had links.
Viktor offered his services as an interrogator because the cries of people excited him.
And there was no information he couldn’t get out—the ones who didn’t speak simply had nothing to spill.
However, his loyalty was one thing Marcello never questioned, because he was one of the few people who had his back.
“I do not know, but it looks like they really did try to kill her,” Viktor informed Marcello.
This wasn’t a hit intended to fail—Cleopatra wasn’t meant to live past that day—but there was no way anyone could make that move without him knowing.
Unless…
“I see… And there is no doubt she would suspect we are the ones who carried out this hit, correct?” Marcello questioned, trying his best to remain calm.
“Does it matter? We could always just kill her,” Viktor said nonchalantly, but Marcello knew better.
He understood that Cleopatra didn’t live as long as she did because no one wanted her dead.
She lived because her father had established the foundation she now utilised.
She had mastered the art of deception, effortlessly blending between both worlds.
“Viktor, can you do that for me?” Marcello requested, and Viktor nodded to show he was more than capable of carrying out such a task.
“It will be easy… She is a woman,” Viktor said, his voice steeped in a Russian accent.
This sounded ignorant, but Viktor was the most dangerous man Marcello knew, and if he didn’t have him under his control,
he would have had him killed. But luckily, Viktor became a weapon he could use.
“And Viktor… Do not underestimate that woman,” Marcello warned him.
“Da,” Viktor responded, eating a steak barely cooked, revealing his fang-like metal teeth.

Kyle was unaware of the recent development, but that didn’t matter, as he had his own goals at this point.
He knew he had to take Marcello down before he could cause any more trouble, but there was no way he could kill him.
He had to find a way into his immediate circle first before he could do anything, but Alfredo was his only way of doing so.
However, he was a low-ranking member of the Mafia, and there was no way he would be able to get to the Don through him.
But it was a start. Kyle arranged to meet with Alfredo, but it was in a neutral location.
He had invited him out, but Alfredo didn’t come alone; he came with a man whose name Kyle hadn’t caught yet.
“Alfredo, I’m glad you came,” Kyle said with a broad smile. This was not the man Alfredo knew, but he was smart enough to understand this was to be expected, considering they were in a neutral environment.
He was surprised Kyle wanted to see him at all, as he assumed he would want to keep their relationship private.
Alfredo had originally come here because he thought Kyle had something important for him, judging by the way he spoke on the phone.
“Are you okay?” Alfredo asked right away, scanning the environment for potential threats.
“I’m fine. I wanted to talk to you…” Kyle said, pausing briefly before looking at the man with him.
“Privately,” Kyle concluded, and Alfredo’s brows furrowed in suspicion. But this was Kyle—he knew it was in his best interest to remain on the good side of such an important asset.
Alfredo gestured for the man to leave them be, and this confirmed it wasn’t a casual meeting Kyle had invited him to.
“What is it?” Alfredo asked.
“I have met with someone important, and I have no way of relaying this information to the Don,” Kyle said, but Alfredo wondered why he needed this level of privacy to tell him this.
“What are you talking about?” Alfredo leaned in to listen.
“I think the Mafia has a mole,” Kyle insinuated, and Alfredo recoiled at this ridiculousness before a chuckle escaped his lips.
“A mole? There is no way,” Alfredo said, but despite Kyle having no proof of this. He did understand that all of this was too smooth for it to be a coincidence.
There had to be someone on the inside relaying information to those on the outside.
The assassination attempt, the attack on his life—what if it was all a bid to drive Marcello into a war?
The best way to take the crown of a king is by distracting him with a war.
Of course, all of this was made up, and Kyle knew if he had such “valuable” information, Marcello would have no choice but to meet him.
Kyle was oblivious to the attack on Cleopatra’s life, and Alfredo wasn’t aware of it either.
This was something the family heads kept to themselves, but it remained vastly unknown whether they were aware Kyle had met Cleopatra or not.
Marcello would have reacted differently if this were the case, and Kyle would have been the first person he sent Viktor to kill.
But he didn’t, which showed this wasn’t an act by the Mafia—they had no idea what was going on, or at least Marcello didn’t.
And there was a big chance the man in front of him might be a mole or connected to one, yet Kyle was about to divulge valuable information.
But would this single decision be the thing to tip the scale?
