Chapter 160: Search for the Star-Second Half
— Thousand Treasure Pavilion Flying Ark —
Wei Chen had returned from the Sword Manor. He was now teaching the chefs of the Thousand Treasure Pavilion a new type of cuisine. This had become part of his new routine. Whenever he had time, he would set up training sessions for cooks and chefs within the Thousand Treasure City territory.
Especially for the people from the Thousand Treasure Pavilion, they would receive dedicated training sessions like this while Wei Chen was traveling with them on their flying ark.
Wei Chen knew that if he wanted to spread cuisine culture, he could not do it alone. He needed these people for it to spread far and wide.
Some of them were even cultivators who had chosen the path of cooking. They cultivated only enough to extend their lifespan so they could explore a wide variety of culinary arts.
They were not strong, but after all, their goal was not to compete with other cultivators for resources. Their focus was cooking. Among them was Fatty Ding Lao, who had come to learn.
This guy could be considered a genius among geniuses when it came to cooking. He spent only a few days understanding the principles of French cuisine. Wei Chen thought that if given enough time, this guy might become the second coming of Gordon Ramsay.
That said, only in terms of skill. He did not think this fatty, who looked like he could not even hurt a fly, could ever be as savage as Gordon Ramsay.
While Wei Chen was teaching them how to prepare meringue, the phone in his inner pocket rang.
He took it out and checked the caller.
“Huh? Yaoyao?” Wei Chen wondered, then picked up the phone.
“Hello?”
“Wei Chen, can you contact that elder’s child? I need her to act in the advertisement film,” Mo Xingyao asked.
“Can’t you find someone else? I mean, Yu’er’s connections. She must know some children who could star in the film. Oh, just a moment,” Wei Chen said, then turned toward Fatty Ding Lao.
“Fatty Lao, help me teach them how to beat the egg whites for meringue. You’ve done this before,” Wei Chen instructed.
“Yes, Teacher,” Fatty Ding Lao replied, then continued where Wei Chen had left off.
In the past few days, Fatty Ding Lao had followed Wei Chen closely and received more lessons than the others. His dormant talent for cooking shone as he quickly grasped the key points and executed them in a very short time.
There was even a time when Wei Chen taught him knife techniques for cutting vegetables and other ingredients. Fatty Ding Lao absorbed everything like a sponge absorbing water. He was truly gifted at this.
Thus, his knowledge was always a step ahead of the others.
Wei Chen walked out of the kitchen into the dining room to find a quieter place.
“Okay, where were we?” he asked after sitting down in the quietest corner he could find.
“Can you call that little girl to star in the film?” Mo Xingyao repeated her request. Then she continued, “We need a child with some cultivation and genuine childlike happiness. The children in the Immortal Dream Garden are all courtesan trainees. They do not match my artistic vision,” she explained, her tone slightly haughty.
“Artistic vision? Hehe,” Wei Chen laughed teasingly. “Are you sure it’s your artistic vision and not Yu’er’s? Weren’t you more of a black-hearted business lady than the artistic type?” he teased.
“Is that how you see me?” Mo Xingyao’s voice grew solemn, and a trace of sadness could be heard.
“Oh no…” he muttered. He had unknowingly stepped on a land mine. “No, of course not! Even though you can be greedy from time to time, who isn’t? Right? And you have a heart brighter than many righteous path cultivators!” Wei Chen quickly tried to defuse the situation.
“Then… between me and Yu’er, who is more beautiful?” Mo Xingyao asked, her voice tinged with certainty, as if she was confident she would win.
“Err… is that even a question? I do not think I need to spell it out, right?” Wei Chen tried to avoid the obvious trap.
At that moment, another familiar voice chimed in.
“Lord Wei, I want to know too!” The voice belonged to Dream Butterfly, her tone filled with expectation no less than Mo Xingyao’s.
Wei Chen began to sweat. This was clearly a trap question. There was no good answer. Only pain and suffering awaited him if he answered.
If he said Mo Xingyao was more beautiful, that gentle Yu’er would sulk and pout, possibly ignoring him for months.
If he told the truth and said Yu’er was more beautiful, he would definitely get bitten by that money-grubbing girl. Worse, if she reported this to Mo Jue, his future father-in-law might come after him with murderous intent.
If he said they were equal, he would get the worst of both worlds. Bitten and given the cold shoulder. There was no correct answer.
“Ah! I think I can call that little girl over. No, I can definitely call her over. She loves my cooking!” With that, Wei Chen immediately hung up.
“Phew… crisis averted. Now I need to call that little glutton over. And I should ask for Miss Youqi’s permission too, lest the same kidnapping incident happen like last time,” Wei Chen muttered before beginning to contact the underworld.
— Meanwhile – Thousand Flower Valley —
Inside the gazebo, both Mo Xingyao and Dream Butterfly were laughing at Wei Chen’s antics.
“You’re terrible, you know that, right? You read him like a book,” Mo Xingyao praised her sister.
Dream Butterfly showed a trace of guilt on her face before replying.
“It’s because Lord Wei is too gentle. When he sees someone as one of his own, he tries his best not to hurt them. He is the type of man who is rare in this time and age. I have observed him and watched how he treats people. He has never once thought that he is above others, and it is not an act. He truly respects all walks of life, even a mortal who sells noodles by the roadside. He never sees himself as superior.”
“Of course, he might act like a hooligan and make us want to hit his face from time to time, but that is also one of his quirks. As you say, Sister Yaoyao, he is a joker,” Dream Butterfly said with a faint trace of guilt in her voice.
“But I must thank you, Yu’er. If it were not for your suggestion, that guy might have played around for a while before deciding to help us with this matter. As you know, even though he is a young master, he should not have more authority than an elder in his clan,” Mo Xingyao said, then paused.
“Ummm… we might have brought a little trouble to him. I should do something to apologize and thank him when he comes back,” Mo Xingyao murmured, feeling a trace of guilt in her heart.
“Sister Yaoyao, I have a plan. How about we both thank and apologize to him once this is over?” Dream Butterfly said, her face flushing red as she thought about the plan.
“Huh? What are you planning? Can you tell me?” Mo Xingyao asked curiously.
— Meanwhile – Underworld —
Youqi is working as a secretary and helping her husband with his endeavors. Today, there is less work than usual. It is because Wei Chen’s actions in reducing deaths in the mortal realm are beginning to take effect.
Even though it lessens the burden on her and her husband, it accounts for only two tenths of the overall death rate. Even so, the number alone is staggering. This is because Wei Chen’s efforts in education only affect the lower realm and do not include the war-torn Immortal Realm, where the majority of deaths occur.
And that is also where most of the problems come from.
A ringtone suddenly rang from her PC. Her husband had set her ringtone to something rather unusual. The sound was full of swagger and upbeat energy. She could almost see the smug grin of the caller whenever it played. The theme was John Cena’s entrance music.
Her husband clearly had a knack for identifying a person’s personality through a song.
Of course, this ringtone told her that it was Wei Chen calling.
She opened the connection and accepted the call. “Yes? Mr. Wei, what do you need?”
“Errr… Ms. Youqi, may I invite little Ningning to come to the mortal world? I made a kind of pizza that I think she would love. Also, there are a lot of floating islands here. She should come and take some back for all of you to have a taste,” Wei Chen said from the other side. The background noise suggested he was in the kitchen, and he seemed busy.
“Huh? Floating islands? What’s that?” Youqi asked, confused.
That day, she had only received an apologetic meal that her little one made together with Wei Chen. There were no floating islands…
Wait… come to think of it, she remembered a box. It was a sealed box with a cold array on it. That box must have contained the so-called floating islands.
Oh? So that mischievous girl dared to eat snacks before bed without brushing her teeth, huh? Good to know…
