Chapter 181: Mo Xingyao Suspiciousness
Mo Xingyao smiled mysteriously, then poured a cup of Thousand Fragrance Wine in front of her.
“Drink this cup of wine first, and I’ll tell you,” she said as she handed it to Dream Butterfly.
Dream Butterfly accepted it with a confused yet grateful expression, then drank it in one gulp.
After making sure the wine had gone down her throat, Mo Xingyao immediately sealed her acupoints.
Dream Butterfly was startled. Fear rose within her as she worried that Mo Xingyao might silence her.
But then Mo Xingyao lifted her and gently laid her down on the bed.
Dream Butterfly was greatly shocked. At the same time, a heat began to rise from her dantian, spreading throughout her body, especially concentrating in her lower abdomen.
An itchiness and an indescribable base urge rose within her. The urge to find someone, to hold someone, and to become one with him…
“It’s hot… Lord Wei… ugh… aaahh…” she moaned as the heat and urges intensified within her.
— Meanwhile, Underworld —
Wei Chen was filing a document in the office room just outside the Lord of Death’s office.
Before he realized it, Wei Chen already had his own office in the Underworld. The plaque in front of the room read “Special Agent Wei.”
While he worked, the sounds of voracious munching and giggling came from inside the room. It was little Ningning and Max. The dog docilely allowed the little girl to ride him like a horse, carrying her around.
Now, he lay in place, happily munching on a large serving of bratwurst sausages that Wei Chen had prepared for him.
As for little Ningning, she occasionally stole sausages from Max’s bowl and munched on them herself.
Wei Chen had no comment. He only knew that if Youqi were to open the door and walk in right now… no, more precisely, if she used a master key to suddenly enter… someone would be in a world of trouble.
And that might include him as well.
He knew that if he had done something like this in his previous life, especially at the same age as Ningning, his mother would have been furious.
Wait… had that already happened before?
He remembered a time when he was just a boy, at that curious age, barely reaching his dad’s waist. Back then, his dad was not yet a chef, just a trainee working as a cook at a small diner across the street.
At the time, his dad practiced cooking at home and would give the failed dishes to the dog. He remembered feeling angry about it. Why was his father giving his cooking to the dog? So he secretly took some of the failed dishes from the dog’s bowl.
His dad saw it and laughed, thinking it was funny. He even took a photo. But then his mother entered the scene, and all hell broke loose.
He did not remember exactly what happened afterward. He only knew that his dad ended up sleeping on the sofa that night.
If the same situation applied here, he might get a warning letter, or worse, have his bonus cut… again.
“Ningning, stop stealing from Max, will you? If you want some, I’ll make it for you too. Just wait until I finish filing this document.”
The document he was writing now was a borrowing form. Yes, borrowing. This artifact was not available in the redeeming shop because it was the Lord of Death’s personal property… just like that plunger.
He needed to file a form to borrow it. And since this mischievous little girl had not tampered with the shop listings like last time, he had to go through proper procedure to get his hands on the artifact that could detect death-cheater souls as cautious and stealthy as Yun Feng’s master.
“Eeeehh… you said that half an hour ago, but you’re still revising that document,” little Ningning protested.
Yes… this was the fourth time he had revised the form under Miss Youqi’s guidance. He carefully checked everything letter by letter, comparing it with the sample he had been given.
“Be patient, will you? Or I’ll tell Miss Youqi that you’ve been stealing dog food to eat,” Wei Chen shot back.
“Hey! This is definitely not dog food! Don’t lie to me! It’s called sausage. A normal dog wouldn’t be able to eat this kind of sausage!” the little one retorted.
“But I gave it to a dog. Doesn’t that make it the dog’s property? So calling it dog food isn’t wrong,” Wei Chen argued.
The little one glared at Wei Chen, then huffed and sat on the waiting sofa, turning on the TV to watch a program.
“Fine! I’ll wait!” she reluctantly agreed as she stared at the screen.
“That’s a good girl,” Wei Chen commented as he continued working on the document.
After some time, a knock came from outside. Wei Chen was sure it was from that little girl’s mother.
“Ningning! Your mom is here to pick you up. Go and open the door,” Wei Chen called out.
“Eeeehhhh!? But you still haven’t made a big pile of bratwurst for me!” the little one protested.
“Hey! When did it turn into a big pile!?” Wei Chen shot back.
Despite her complaints, little Ningning went to open the door.
“Why are you locking the door?” As soon as it opened, Youqi walked in, followed by Yan Rongjun, the second wife of the Lord of Death.
“Ah! Second Mama!” The little one dashed toward Yan Rongjun and jumped at her. Yan Rongjun caught her midair with ease.
“Eh? Are you getting heavier? Be careful. If you eat too much, Mama might not be able to catch you,” Yan Rongjun said in her usual carefree tone.
“Ah, Ms. Yan, hello,” Wei Chen greeted her, then turned to Youqi. “Ms. Youqi, I just need to check a bit more, and I’ll give you this form.”
“Huh? Youqi? It’s just borrowing something from me. Why are you being so strict?” Yan Rongjun asked.
“It’s a regulation, Second Sister. Besides, I wasn’t sure I could find you, so I had him fill out the form,” Youqi replied professionally.
“Ugh… as rigid as ever…” Yan Rongjun muttered, then turned to Wei Chen and tossed a small wooden box to him.
Wei Chen caught the box and opened it. Inside was a pair of glasses, stylish and slightly tinted, like the kind people wore while driving under the harsh sun.
“This is?” Wei Chen took them out, looking confused.
“It’s the artifact you wanted to borrow. It helps detect those filthy death-cheater souls. It’s a bit fashionable, since I usually wear it when I sneak out to the mortal world with my husband. Hahaha,” Yan Rongjun said casually.
“That’s not something you should say proudly, Second Sister,” Youqi replied.
“Uhh… thank you, Ms. Yan. So I don’t need to file this form anymore?” Wei Chen asked.
Youqi nodded. “Yes. I only had you prepare it in case I couldn’t find Second Sister. Now you don’t need it. Besides, you should go back soon. Someone is waiting for you on the other side.”
“Huh?” Wei Chen was confused, but he still nodded.
“Mama, he still hasn’t made a big pile of bratwurst for me,” little Ningning complained.
At that moment, Yan Rongjun noticed Max, who was voraciously finishing the last bratwurst in his bowl.
Max needed to eat this heavenly food quickly. Otherwise, that little one might steal it again.
“Woof!” Max barked in protest at little Ningning.
Youqi did not seem to mind, but Yan Rongjun’s smile turned slightly unnatural the moment she heard the bark.
Wei Chen noticed it. Wait… she can’t possibly understand what the dog just said, right? Crap…
Wei Chen silently offered his condolences to little Ningning, then quickly tossed the document into a nearby bin. He thanked the two wives of his boss and waved goodbye to Ningning.
“Ah! Where are you going! Come back and make a big pile of bratwurst for me!” the little one protested, but Wei Chen had already left the room with Max.
At that moment, Youqi noticed the strange smile on her second sister’s face.
“Do you happen to know something from what that dog said just now, Second Sister?” she asked.
Little Ningning’s face stiffened as she looked at her second mama with pleading eyes.
Yan Rongjun stiffly shook her head. “No! What are you talking about? That dog just said hello to me. Nothing special.” She averted her gaze and quickly moved toward the door with Ningning.
Youqi felt suspicious… but she decided to let it go. It probably was not anything serious.
— After a while, Thousand Treasure Pavilion —
Wei Chen returned to the Thousand Treasure Pavilion through the portal on the Underworld Palace’s flying ark.
He noticed that Mo Xingyao seemed to be anxiously waiting for him.
“Huh? You were waiting for me? What’s the matter? Do you need something?” Wei Chen asked.
This girl was acting a bit strange today.
“Brother Chen… I’ve been waiting for you. Please come with me, I want to pour you a cup of wine,” Mo Xingyao said.
“Okay…” Wei Chen nodded and followed her. At that moment, he did not suspect anything and simply went along.
