Chapter 141: Diana apartment
JASMINE’S POV
“Tom can you take my place?” she then asked one of her colleagues standing nearby the reception. “I’m going to the records room with these two but I’ll be back soon.”
Angela then lead us to the records room which was a floor below the main entrance hall. It was a room filled with aisle upon aisle of metal drawers stacked on shelves row by row and piled next to each other. In each of them I assumed were the filed documents. The whole room smelled like old dusty papers.
By the entrance was a desktop which Angela went to and began clicking away with the mouse. I assumed it was used to locate filed documents. When she was done she took us to one of the many aisles in the room.
Louis and I went through the document together.
The first document was of Diana as a patient checking in to give birth. The next was a birth certificate of her son. Diana of course was written as the mother and the father was written to be Keith…
The information is a little disappointing, I thought to myself.
“Do you happen to have any other records of her checking into the hospital at other times she lived in the city for 8 years,” Louis then asked. “I’m sure there were other times she came.”
The lady checked again through the files and turned back to Louis and I
“No,” she then said. “It seems the only time she came to this hospital was when she was in labour 10 years ago.”
Louis and I looked at each other before looking back at the receptionist.
“Is it possible that these documents might have been tampered with or anything ?” I asked. There’s a good chance that since it’s Diana we’re talking about she might have planted the information in the document we just went through. In fact I was sure that was the case.
Angela pressed her lips together as she shook her head. “If they have there’s no way I would know about it, I only started working here a year ago.”
“I see,” I responded.
We thanked her for her cooperation and then left the records room with her.
“Well, we certainly didn’t learn anything we didn’t know already,” I said to Louis as we left the hospital building.
“Hopefully, we’ll have better luck at her apartment,” Louis said to me.
When we reached outside Louis turned to his bodyguards who had been patiently waiting for us outside.
There are two other clinics in the city I want you to go to them and see if you can get any information on Diana Rockford,” he instructed them. “When you’re done come to the apartment I’ll be at.”
They nodded, accepting his order, and left on their motorcycles.
We then got onto his motorcycle and began to make our way to Diana’s old apartment. Since Louis and I’s discussion about Diana on Thursday night and our decision to come to this city we had looked into further details about Diana’s apartment.
We found out that there weren’t any new tenants listed on the property since Diana left. Initially we had just planned to ask around the neighborhood if they knew anything about Diana. Perhaps we could find something she had left at the apartment.
When we arrived at the location Louis helped me dismount his bike as I looked up at the three story Apartment building wedged on the edge of a hill on the outskirts of the city. There were other similar apartment buildings around.
The sound of Screaming and laughter had me looking at a group of children who were playing football nearby on the road.
“The apartment is on the second floor right?” Louis asked me as we went toward the building.
“Yeah,” I confirmed. There wasn’t an elevator so we had to use the stairs to get to the top floor. Upon reaching the apartment Louis and I looked through the windows beside the front door and peep inside.
The window was covered by some curtains however there were small gaps through which you could peep through. Inside we saw couches, a carpet, and tables. Looked like like a lounge.
“Looks like it’s still furnished,” Louis said excitedly. “Think someone’s inside?”
“Certainly looks like someone lives there. Maybe, it’s the landlord?” I suggested. The apartment didn’t have any new tenants so I’m assuming the owner of the apartment moved in. If that was the case I would love to talk to him and ask what he knew about Diana.
Louis tried to open the door but it was unsurprisingly locked. He then knocked but no one answered.
“Let me knock on the neighbors’ doors, see if they can tell us anything,” I said to Louis.
There were three apartments on each floor. The first one I checked, I saw that the apartment was completely vacant through the uncovered windows as it had no furniture at all.
The second one had curtains covering the windows showing that someone lived there. However, when I knocked on the door no one answered.
“Looks like no ones home,” I said as I returned to Louis who was looking at the front door to diana’s apartment.
“Do you have a hairpin?” he then asked me as put his hands in his jacket pockets searching for something.
I wondered why at first until it hit me. “We’re going to break in!?” I asked him surprised.
“We can’t go home empty-handed can we?” he said. “We came all this way after all. Besides, no one’s around anyway.”
But they could arrive soon, though. I contemplated worriedly for a moment before I took out a pin from my hair and handed it to him.
“Thank you,” he said as he took it and lowered himself till he was eye level with the door lock. He took out a pocket knife/ tool with lots of gadgets. He folded it till a wire-looking screwdriver was out. He started picking at the lock with the hairpin and screwdriver.
I looked around to see if anyone was watching us.
