Chapter 215 A discovery
“If you’re scared of Louis, don’t worry,” I taunted him. “I doubt he would be on your property,” I assured him.
Calling him out on the fact that he wouldn’t let me use my phone to speak with Louis.
“That’s not it,” Keith told me.
“So this was the last known location the truck she escaped in with her servants was seen?” I asked deciding to let it go and returning to the folder he presented.
“Yes,” Keith answered. “My men are currently looking into the situation and are trying to find any other sightings of the vehicle.” Diana and her sponsor had planned multiple things to all coincide with each other. Which intern caused chaos and confusion. The fire, Tony and I’s attack, Louis’ “You think they will ask for ransom if we want Anthony back?” I asked him.
Keith brought “Its possible. I cant think of any other reason they would want Anthony,” He said a grave expression on his face.
I felt a pit in my stomach at the thought of Tony’s life being at risk all because they want to get to Keith. We were going to take to wait for them to communicate with us their terms. It had been a week already and they hadn’t said anything.
“In any case I think its evident this person, Diana’s sponsor, knows a lot about you and perhaps even the Acland company. Do you recall the accounting drafts that were in the folder Louis and I sent you?” I asked him.
“Ah yes,” he replied. “Like it was written in the file I don’t know what the numbers represents but they could be extracts from the accounting reports from the company. Or they might be other Acland company documents. I mean at the house in Kensington the assailant inside rushed to collect documents and those documents were the only ones they dropped, so they must have been something important that they didn’t want us to know.”
My gaze was lazily focused on the documents and occasionally glanced at Keith as I spoke . But then from my peripheral vision as I looked down at the files I noticed Keith was looking at me very intensely. My eyes made contact with his and I stopped stopped talking.
“—What? Why are you staring at me like that?” I asked him as he seemed to be studying me, like stunned by something.
“Nothing,” he quickly replied and looked away from me as if shy that he had been caught. “…It’s just you’re very perceptive…”
I cocked my eyebrow at him.
“…I see…Anyway,” I got back to what I was saying. “When you looked at the documents did anything ring a bell for you?” I asked him.
“No…” he started as he seemed to contemplate my question. Then Keith suddenly went still for a moment. My eyebrows sprang up as I wondered if he was okay.
“What?” I asked him as he seemed to be recalling something.
He then quickly stood up from the seat and a look of determination appeared on his face.
“Keith?” I said.
“There’s something I have to do,” he told me. “I’ll have the laboratory contacted and let you know what I find out. I’ll talk to you later.”
I watched him leave the room and I contemplated. He must have realised something about the company finances related to what I was saying. Hopefully he would find something.
A sigh escaped my mouth.
At the very least Keith was being cooperative and wanted us to work together and share ideas. Hopefully, we would find Tony soon. However, at the same time I also feared what entailed if we found him together. I shrugged those thoughts aside. I would face one problem at a time. For now I would focus on just finding Tony. I was sure Louis was starting to ask questions. I shook my head and tried not to worry myself. Find out as much information as you can as you study the situation, I told myself. As I waited for Keith to return with the updates, I continued to go through the documents trying to see if I could find anything that stuck out. KEITH’S POV
I left the sitting room and immediately took out my phone, calling my head aide for the estate. “Get the car ready in the driveway,” I instructed him.
I went to my home office and at my desk took the folder that Jasmine and the Carrington had sent me and left. I had been planning to go to the HQ after lunch, but with the realisation Jasmine had made me come to I had to go now.
I quickly made my way to the mansion entrance, where the car was waiting for me outside, and made my way to the Acland HQ. Along the way, my mind was focused on what I hoped to uncover when I arrived at the HQ, as well as Jasmine. She had amazed me during our conversation. At some point, as she talked, I was taken aback by her analysis of the situation.
She quickly took command of the conversation. She was so perceptive and assertive in her theories about Anthony’s captor. You could tell she had actively uncovered a lot of the details about the case and findings in the document. Jasmine…was full of surprises.
A part of me had been suspicious of how the Carrington had made her his personal assistant. My initial thoughts were that he did only because he favoured her. However, she was showing that it was not the case.
I did have a suspicion of this before, which is why I asked her to help me find Anthony. I just didn’t expect that whilst talking to her. Seeing her competence in person was perplexing.
Jasmine didn’t have a formal education, but she was quite adept and capable; she had an understanding of accounting and business. As I looked out the window, the realisation that I was learning about her only now. In the past weeks, since I had been watching her and her relationship, no fling, with the Carrington.
