Chapter 241: Do you have to go this far?
I glared down at her, and in her eyes flashed realisation. She knew there would be consequences for doing something like this. So she had to take it.
She continued to struggle, but my grip was firm.
I walked through the burst door of the office. The employee who the office belonged to was waiting outside with my bodyguards.
You can go inside and work. The door will be fixed in due time,” I informed him.
“Yes, chairman,” he said.
“You see how you’ve inconvenienced others,” I told Jasmine as I walked away, still holding her.
“Oh, please,” she said to me in annoyance. “Are you really going to carry me all the way to your office?”
Yes, I was. I thought to myself. Couldn’t have you trying to slip away again.
Every employee moving through the hallway looked at us as I made my way to the elevator. I saw Jasmine’s embarrassment on her face as she felt the eyes on us. I scoffed.
One of the bodyguards called the elevator upon reaching it. I looked down at Jasmine as we waited, who had finally given up on fighting and was quiet.
She was staring at nothing in particular and seemed lost in her thoughts. Perhaps she was thinking about the phone call she had just made? However, one of my eyebrows cocked as I noticed she looked a little…sad?
Why aren’t you happy? I thought to myself. Didn’t you just come from talking to the Carrington boy? So why the long face? My eyes narrowed as I wondered why she appeared like this.
The elevator then arrived.
“Make sure no one else gets in the elevator with us,” I instructed the bodyguards as the doors opened and I went inside. I would show Jasmine what was going to happen from now on. An opportunity like that was never going to happen again.
Every time the elevator stopped, the bodyguards would inform the caller to use the other elevators.
Upon arriving in my office, I placed her on the couch in the seating area. The HQ nurse was waiting nearby. She then came to the seating area and inspected her leg.
I paced around as I nervously waited.
“Her leg is fine and is healing accordingly,” the nurse said once she was done.
Once she left the room, and it was just Jasmine, me…and the bodyguards. We stared at each other in silence for a moment. I then went to my desk and picked up my telephone receiver, and made a call to the building’s head of security.
Once the call went through, I spoke up.
“I want four more bodyguards stationed outside my office,” I instructed them whilst making eye contact with Jasmine.
As I put the phone down, Jasmine was still glaring. I could tell she wanted to say something I would wait for her to speak up.
“I wouldn’t have to do this if you weren’t so restrictive of me. You’re suffocating me, Keith,” Jasmine complained to me calmly. ”
My jaw tightened as I listened to her.
“You were always going to find me, Keith. There are cameras everywhere in, and my leg is still healing. I just wanted a break,” she continued. “I told you I wasn’t going to run away.”
I was still surprised she didn’t try to escape as well. From the camera footage before the bodyguards took control of the elevator, she had time to use one of the other three elevators to leave the building. She could have tried to escape, but she didn’t…
But I stared at her more carefully as I contemplated her words. “I can’t go to the bathroom in peace, and I have no access to any technology. I’m being treated worse than a child who’s been grounded. This isn’t normal, Keith,” she went on, trying to reason with me. “Do you really have to go this far?”
You want access to technology so that you can call the Carrington boy? I thought to myself.
However, I would admit that as she laid it out like that, I did feel I was taking it too far. If she weren’t an escape risk, I would loosen the security around her. I felt she would try to escape again if given the chance. But, at the same time, I knew she loved and cared deeply for Anthony, so she would prioritize finding him. Which was probably a big reason why she stayed. We had been working well in the last week as well…
She wasn’t going to run away, but she was going to contact that boy…
I looked into her mesmerizing green eyes and almost felt an ache in my heart.
I then cleared my throat to get a hold of myself. “I have a meeting in 10 minutes,” I told her as I looked down at my watch. Ignoring what she had mentioned before. “You can continue to look through the files.”
“For fuck’s sake, Keith,” she said in frustration.
I would consider what she told me, but for now, it was still too risky.
I left the office and turned to the 4 bodyguards I had asked for that were already stationed outside the office as well.
I turned to one of them before I went to the meeting. “I want you to find out everything you can about what is happening with the Carringtons’ youngest son, Louis Carrington.”
Given Jasmine’s demeanor after the call, I was curious to know if something was going on.
“Yes, sir,” he accepted the order.
“Give me the file when I’m not with my wife,” I specifically instructed him.
I then continued to make my way to the meeting.
I thought about how I would typically request Edward to do it; however, since he was a suspect, I would have to ask my bodyguards.
