Chapter 245: Leigh-Anne Sommers
“Your last assistant, Jasmine Acland, was your lover, wasn’t she?” My father asked. “I’m sure that little dalliance was quite fun for you, but you have to get serious soon. You’re 23, turning 24 soon, and you have to start thinking about marriage.”
My lips then pressed into a thin line, feeling uncomfortable with his line of questioning. He still didn’t take my relationship with Jasmine seriously. I wasn’t giving up on her yet.
It’s clear my father was playing matchmaker and wanted me to have something with her…and marriage at that.
“Anyway, I’m sure as you get over Chairman Acland’s wife, you’ll come to your senses,” he told me.
After a few minutes, Leigh-Anne returned to the office with the remaining folders and placed them on the desk.
“Alright, fantastic,” my father said as she placed the folders on the table. “Now, Miss Sommers will help you go through the documents and explain anything you don’t understand.
Leigh-Anne smiled warmly at me as my father explained.
“Remember not to be late to the meeting,” he finished off and then left me in the office alone with Leigh-Anne.
After the door to the office was closed, I turned to Leigh-Anne, who was looking at me.
“I guess we’d better get started,” I told her.
It then finally hit me why I found Leigh-Anne familiar. Leigh-Anne was the woman Jasmine had bumped into that day when we came here and were brought into the office.
Whatever my father planned to happen between Leigh-Anne and me was never going to happen. I don’t know what he’d told her either, but I wasn’t going to entertain anything. I would keep our relationship strictly professional.
The rest of the day, I began going through the documents with Leigh-Anne and learning about the Carrington HQ. My mind was also a bit distracted as thoughts of Jasmine filled it.
*************
The following day, as soon as I arrived at the office, I continued learning about the company and with Leigh-Anne.
I left for another meeting around midday. I was in a rush and just took since I was late.
“Miss Sommers, are you alright?” I asked upon re-entering the office.
“Yes, sir,” she replied.
“I left my phone in here,” I said as I went toward my desk.
“Ah, yes, you left it on your desk, sir,” she told me.
I picked up the phone and immediately unlocked it and began scrolling through it.
I then noticed a phone call on my history call log and my eyes narrowed as I looked at it.
“I received a call whilst I was out and it It shows it was answered,” I noted as I read through the log. There were two calls from this person one answered and one missed. She was the only one in my office while I was out so only she could have answered it.
“Ah, yes, I apologise for the intrusion, Sir,” she said startled as if she had expected that for me to ask that re. “It rang several times, and that’s why I answered to explain you were busy so they could call back later,” she explained.
The number came from an unknown telephone number.
“Who was it?” I asked her.
Leigh-Anne seemed to contemplate before she opened her mouth. ” It was a woman…who wanted to speak to you,” she told me.
I immediately redialed the number and brought the phone up to my ear. The call went through and rang for a couple of moments, and then was answered.
“Good afternoon, Operations Department Acland,” a male voice said. My eyes softened at the reveal that it came from the Acland HQ.
“Good afternoon, I received a call from a woman who wanted to talk to me earlier from this number,” I started.
There was a long pause.
“…Oh, sorry, sir, that call was a mistake from before,” he explained nervously. “I apologize for the inconvenience.”
“What happened to her? Where is she?” I asked almost with desperation.
“I can’t say nor do I know who she was, but that call was a mistake,” he reiterated.
I wanted to ask more questions and understand what was happening, but demanding more information was risky considering the circumstances of Jasmine’s call. not to mention the nervousness in the man’s voice as if something big had happened. I should just leave it at that.
“Alright, I understand,” I told him and cut the call.
“Fuck!” I said to myself after I ended the call. Jasmine had reached out to me, and I missed it! What’s worse, since the call came from an unknown number, even if I had seen it during the meeting, I would have ignored it.
This was so unexpected, and the implications were worrying. For Jasmine to make an odd call like that when she possibly didn’t have access to her phone. It could mean she defied Keith in some way. Immediately, I feared what Keith had done to her.
“Is there anything else she said?” I asked Leigh-Anne.
She stared at me with a stunned expression from my reaction. “Yes, sir. She said she wants to talk to you, sir.”
My eyes narrowed as I looked at her. Was that really all Jasmine had said? Didn’t she have a message for me? I didn’t know.
But why would Leigh-Anne lie? She doesn’t know Jasmine, I wondered to myself.
Obviously, Jasmine doesn’t know who Leigh-Anne is; she might have thought who, and I can imagine if Leigh-Anne introduced herself as my assistant to her, she might feel replaced. Then there was my father, who was trying to set Leigh-Anne and me up.

Later that day in my home office, I was looking at a map of Yorkshire I had laid out on my desk. Next to them were images of a black van. My men had been going through surveillance footage of all the roads from and around the distribution center just before and just after Tony’s kidnapping.
So far, their efforts had concluded that this suspicious black van was possibly the one used by Tony’s kidnapper. The van had no plates, and the windows were tinted. It was seen around the distribution center and also going in the direction of it an hour before the attack occurred, and was seen leaving the area shortly after the attack. By making some calculations of the time it takes to get from the last street camera to the distribution center, the times matched.
