Chapter 246: New information
My men were now doing everything to track where the van had gone.
I wondered what Keith had uncovered on his side. Still, I couldn’t believe he wouldn’t let me help with the investigation. We could cross-compare our findings.
I was handed the photos of Jasmine from today. She was being pushed out of the building with Keith. A wave of relief came over me. She was fine. There were more bodyguards all around them compared to other pictures. That told me the phone call she made earlier might have resulted in this.
My powerlessness was getting to me now. I couldn’t continue to do this, watching from afar, not knowing how she was. Not knowing what that bastard was doing to her. Her making an abrupt call like that, my mind can only imagine she had to fight to find an opportunity like that. That he is fully restricting everything she does.
If there was nothing I could do legally, then I had no option but to do things the opposite way.
If I were able to answer her call and talk to her today. I would have gotten some clarity on her situation, and that’s what pains me the most. I haven’t heard her voice in weeks, and I haven’t received even been able to touch her since she was attacked because of Keith.
KEITH’S POV
Though I had calmed my mind still couldn’t get over Jasmine’s near escape. ’I love him.’ The scene as I entered the room continued to replay in my mind. Her heart was still with the Carrington boy. I knew this but hearing it out loud was a painful reminder.
Only a day had passed since then I had increased the security around us. Especially since her leg was healing I didn’t want to take any chances.
I recalled her trying to negotiate with me and saying I was going too far with the everything. Her points were valid and I didn’t want to do this to her but Jasmine was a lot smarter than I credited her for. With how defiant and spiteful she was I couldn’t risk it unfortunately. She definitely try something.
When we arrived home after work we continued our discussion of the investigation in my office. I had more evidence gathered pertaining to Diana.
“So we have a lead on the vehicle used by Diana and the escaped servants,” I said as I showed Jasmine the the images of the vehicle laid out on the table in my seating area.
As you recall the cameras lost track of the delivery van after it went to an area with no highway cameras. but they found it later after another half hour from where the last image was taken, meaning my theory had been right. They tried to throw us off.
Her emerald eyes met mine.”And where did the truck go?” She then asked.
I then looked through the images and showed her the most compelling one. “This is the last image that was taken in a completely different area to the last image that was taken from before. My men scoured through dozens of images from all the images around the area. This is the final image if the truck. However in this area is car pounding area.”
Jasmine carefully examined the images her face serious as he scanned the documents. She was most calm and expressive whenever we talked about Anthony and the investigation. It was the only way I could have a normal conversation with her. Even when she worked in my office she seemed to get lost in the financial documents. She says it’s the reason why she stayed when she escaped from the guards the other day.
I believed her when she said she didn’t run away for that reason but thats not to say she wouldn’t try to run away another time which is why security had to be tightened around her. In any case, I was relieved for that.
“My men asked the vehicle pounding if they had seen the truck and men
“So that means…” Jasmine started.
“What it most likely means is that they changed vehicles,” I explained.
Jasmine contemplated this information for a moment.
“The idea that Diana is near my child sickens me together with whoever she’s working with.” She expressed her worry.
“We’re getting close, everyday we’re learning something new and we’ve already gone through four years worth of financial documents,” I tried to reassure her. I was a billionaire I had more resources than most I knew I would eventually catch the culprit.
“I hope you’re right ,” she replied.
We then wrapped up our discussion for the night and she got up to leave my office.
“Goodnight,” I said to her.
There was a pause as she stared at me.
“…goodnight,” she replied. Her tone was flat but I didn’t sense any anger or sacrum in it.
My eyes narrowed and my eyebrows arched. So yesterday hadn’t been a fluke after all? I wondered to myself feeling confused.
Last night she had said goodnight to me… It was small thing but it was strange since she usually didn’t respond whenever I said it to her. She can’t stand the sight of me. So why was she suddenly saying it? I wondered if I was just overthinking it. Perhaps there wasn’t much to it.
When I finished for the day and left my office. For a moment I paused as I headed to my bedroom. I probably wasn’t going to sleep much so what was the point? I ended up going to a study. I passed by my bedroom and Jasmine’s as I decided to go to a nearby study. There were several bodyguards stationed at different points of the hallway. I had also increased the number as a precaution as well.
Upon entering the study where all four walls were lined with bookshelves containing countless books. I sat down at the chair and let out an exhausted sigh.
When will this be over? I thought to myself as I sat on the chair by the fireplace and poured myself a glass of whiskey.
