Chapter 288: Now or never
“Stay here, let me go and investigate,” he said. He then quickly went toward it. The guard who had been heading towards the gate for the shift exchange also joined and went to join the other guide.
My distraction had worked. I looked back at the guards as they both went behind the bushes I had come from to investigate.
With no one at the gate I ran towards it. The next 10 seconds were extremely crucial.
I reached the gate I took out the keys i had stolen and quickly began.
My fingers were shaking as I quickly began trying the keys. There were ten keys in total attached to the same hook. As I tried to unlock the gate, I realised I was on camera. They could see what I was doing. Hopefully, they hadn’t noticed me yet.
The first key didn’t work.
I felt my heart rate increase as I tried the next one. For god’s sake, why were there so many keys? Would I have enough time to check all ten of them? Hopefully i didn’t have to go that far.
5 seconds passed, and the screaming noise suddenly stopped. My heart sank in my chest. They had found my phone. Fuck. They were going to find me here soon.
I heard the voices of the guards. “Whose phone is this?”
“Why was it left here?”
If I didn’t get this door open, I was truly fucked, I thought to myself. Even if I tried to abort the mission and return to the mansion.
I was on camera trying to unlock this gate with the keys I stole, and I would have to explain why my phone was in the gardens. Keith was going to find out, and there was no telling if I had an excuse he would believe.
The fourth key failed. I then moved on to the fifth. My quivering hands were not helping the situation, as I felt I was going to collapse from how much I was panicking.
It was now or never. I would just have to go through with the escape. I couldn’t focus on failing right now.
I tried the sixth key and was met with the sound click unlocking. A massive wave of relief came over me.
Oh god! I was so terrified. I opened the gate and quickly went through it.
I made a final glance back into the estate gardens and saw the silhouette of the guards coming round from around the bushes where the phone had been.
So far, no one has seen me yet. I quickly closed the gate behind me and ran, dropping the keys to the floor. i didn’t have time to lock the door behind me.
Go! go! go! I yelled in my mind. My legs sprinted across the front yard and onto the road. I noticed the estate cameras as they were capturing me escaping.
“Where are the keys?!” I heard one of them say from inside the estate walls.
“Why is the gate unlocked!?” I heard another guard yell.
I ran as fast as I could, and the voices of the guards lowered as I increased the distance between myself and the house.
“Hey!” I heard a voice yell from behind. I didn’t turn back to look, just continued running.
My heart was hammering in my chest as I ran for my life. This was the point of no return. I ran as fast as I could. My now healed foot showed no signs of problems at all, thankfully.
I reached the end of the street and almost panicked again when I saw nothing.
A blue Chevrolet was waiting at the corner of the street. The blue car Loui had talked about. The closer I drew to it, the more my path to safety became clear. Just a little further.
I opened the door and was met with Louis’s figure seated in the driver’s seat.
“Jasmine!” I heard the familiar voice say my name. I almost shut down at the sound of his voice. I hadn’t heard his voice in so long that I almost thought I was dreaming for a second.
“Louis,” I called his name back.
I looked out the window and saw three guards running, making their way towards the car. Had they already figured out I had escaped?
“Go,” I said to Louis.
Louis immediately hit the gas, and the car bolted off. As we left the street behind us, finally, a breath I hadn’t realized I had been holding was released. I felt like I was about to cry.
I couldn’t believe I’d actually done it. I’d finally managed to escape Keith. Last night i was trapped in his arms and now i was free.
LOUIS’ POV
“This is everything you requested, sir,” one of my men told me. I was in the garage of my apartment building, and before me was a large crate of boxes. I went towards the box and uncovered the cloth that covered it. IDozens of guns were inside.
“Good,” I said to the bodyguard in approval.
I didn’t know exactly what we were going to get into, but I wanted to be prepared nonetheless. I knew that to save Tony, we were probably going to need these.

When the first familiar bush came into view, I let out a relieved sigh. Finally, I had reached the berries. My gaze instinctively looked around before stepping forward once again. Making suppressants wasn’t illegal per say. However, it’s what I used them to do that was dangerous.
I then approached the bushes and lowered my body till I was eye level with them. I then took out my side bag from underneath my cloak. With my hands still shaking, I managed to put the berries in the bag. I was taking two to three weeks worth.
Once my bag was full I got up. It was even heavier now in combination with the groceries. I picked a few and put them in my mouth chewing on them to relieve some of the pain
