Chapter 361: The Junior Villain Makes Her Move
As night fell, Zhuo Xiu led Lu Yan and their two other roommates to a nearby KTV lounge.
The four girls each took turns singing their favorite songs, laughter and music filling the room in a carefree harmony that softened the air.
Partway through, Zhuo Xiu announced that she was thirsty and offered to fetch drinks for everyone. She asked each of them what they wanted, then stepped out to grab their orders.
A few minutes later, she returned with a handful of bottles, handing Lu Yan the orange juice she knew the girl liked best. “Yanyan, you’ve been singing for ages. Here, have something to soothe your throat.”
“Thanks,” Lu Yan said with a soft smile. She unscrewed the cap and took a few generous sips.
Zhuo Xiu watched her from the corner of her eye, and a subtle, eerie smirk tugged at her lips.
The singing continued for a while, but then Lu Yan began shifting uncomfortably. Her brows pinched, and she pressed a hand to her temple.
“Yanyan, what’s wrong?” Zhuo Xiu asked, putting on a concerned expression.
“I don’t know… it suddenly feels really hot, and my head’s spinning,” Lu Yan murmured, her voice low and uneasy.
“Probably the AC’s too low. I was feeling a little warm too,” Zhuo Xiu replied, playing along. Then she added, “We’ve been here a while anyway. If you’re not feeling well, maybe it’s time to head back.”
“I can go back on my own,” Lu Yan said as she didn’t want to ruin the others’ fun.
“Yeah, it’s still early and barely nine o’clock,” one of the other girls chimed in.
“We’ll stay a bit longer. You go ahead, Lu Yan,” the other roommate agreed.
“I’ll cover the bill,” Zhuo Xiu offered quickly. “I don’t feel right letting Yanyan walk back alone. I’ll take her.”
Lu Yan blinked in surprise. Something about Zhuo Xiu’s sudden kindness felt off, but her mind was fuzzy, and the rising heat in her body made it hard to think clearly. She nodded slowly.
“Then… thanks. Sorry to trouble you.”
“What are you saying? We’re sisters, aren’t we? No trouble at all,” Zhuo Xiu said, flashing a warm smile.
The two of them left the private room. Lu Yan was already starting to stumble, her steps unsteady. Zhuo Xiu reached out to support her, arm around her back, guiding her out of the KTV and into the night.
Once outside, she hailed a car and told the driver to take them back to the dorms. But as soon as the vehicle pulled onto the road, Zhuo Xiu suddenly patted her pockets and gasped.
“Crap, I forgot my dorm key.”
“We can call the others, right?” Lu Yan asked, her voice growing drowsy.
There were only two keys—one with Zhuo Xiu and the other with another roommate. Lu Yan didn’t have one herself.
“Let’s not bother them,” Zhuo Xiu said, shaking her head. “They’re still having fun. No need to interrupt.”
She looked over and offered a solution with casual ease. “Let’s just get a hotel room and rest there.”
“Huh? That’s too wasteful,” Lu Yan said instinctively, frowning.
“It’s fine—it’s my birthday, remember? My treat,” Zhuo Xiu replied, waving off her concern.
“But money’s still money. No need to throw it away,” Lu Yan insisted, her frugality kicking in.
“Seriously, it won’t cost much. Don’t worry about it,” Zhuo Xiu said, maintaining her gentle smile.
Lu Yan still felt awful and couldn’t muster the energy to argue. In the end, she gave in. “Alright…”
Zhuo Xiu leaned forward and told the driver to change course. They headed for the nearest hotel.
Once there, she booked a room and helped Lu Yan up to it. As they walked through the corridor, Zhuo Xiu could feel how hot Lu Yan’s skin had become—like she was running a fever. The girl’s breath was short, her body swaying.
Back in the room, Lu Yan mumbled something and headed straight for the shower, muttering about cooling down with some cold water. Before she disappeared behind the door, Zhuo Xiu made a quick move.
“Let me borrow your phone for a sec—I want to take a group picture from earlier and post it,” she said lightly.
Lu Yan didn’t think much of it and handed the phone over.
Once the door clicked shut, water ran audibly behind it. Zhuo Xiu wasted no time. She opened her chat app and made a call.
Wang Haoran was sprawled lazily across a leather sofa, dual-wielding snacks and a gaming controller. He was in the middle of a match with Xu Muyan, laughing now and then into his mic.
On either side of him, Feng Xuansu and Ning Aoxue bickered playfully, occasionally feeding him bits of fruit like they were in some competition.
His phone buzzed with a call.
He glanced at the screen and it was Zhuo Xiu, which was probably about Lu Yan.
Feigning a yawn, he stood up and excused himself, saying he needed to use the restroom. Once he was alone, he answered.
“What is it?”
“I’m sending you a location. You need to come out—it’s about Lu Yan,” Zhuo Xiu said, her voice rushed.
“Speak clearly. What happened?” Wang Haoran’s tone sharpened.
“It’s a good thing! Just hurry, or you’ll miss it!” There was an edge of urgency in her voice.
“If you’re lying to get me alone, I’m not going to be happy,” he warned.
“It’s not like that! You’ll thank me later—promise!” she said eagerly.
“Send it,” he replied and hung up.
A few seconds later, her location dropped into his inbox.
Wang Haoran frowned as he stared at the map. Still, he got moving.
Back in the living room, he stretched, faked a yawn, and said he was headed to bed. Then he circled around to the window, quietly slipped it open, and disappeared into the night.
Ning Aoxue, who knew his strength, didn’t react—she assumed he was just keeping up appearances. Feng Xuansu, though, still thought of him as an ordinary young master. If she caught wind of him sneaking off at night, she would definitely tail him. That was why he made the detour.
Rather than take one of his cars, he flagged down a cab at the roadside and gave the driver the address Zhuo Xiu had sent.
Not long after, Wang Haoran stood in front of a hotel room door.
He knocked twice.
The door creaked open.
“You’re here—come in, quick,” Zhuo Xiu whispered, glancing nervously down the hallway.
Inside, he scanned the room. Only Zhuo Xiu was there. He frowned, already irritated, until the sound of rushing water from the bathroom caught his ear.
“She’s in there. It’s all set up—your move now,” Zhuo Xiu said, gesturing toward the shower.
Wang Haoran’s eyes narrowed. “What do you mean by that?”
Zhuo Xiu leaned in and whispered her plan.
He froze. Then his face darkened.
“I told you to report on her, not pull this disgusting stunt. Who the hell told you to set something like this up?!”
Zhuo Xiu flinched at the sudden fury in his voice and quickly tried to justify herself.
“That girl’s not worth it! She was going to blow you off again and again. Isn’t this better? Skip the chase—go straight to the prize.”
“Have you completely lost your mind?” he snapped. “What happens if she wakes up and loses it? You think that’s just going to end cleanly?”
“I thought of that! You can record it—use the video to keep her quiet. She wouldn’t dare expose it,” Zhuo Xiu said confidently, as if the plan was airtight.
Wang Haoran rubbed his temples in frustration. Why did every wannabe villain think blackmail and cameras were the answer? First Zhen Simin, now Zhuo Xiu.
He wasn’t just some low-tier scumbag. He was the villain of this story, but that didn’t mean he’d stoop to this kind of filth.
“This has nothing to do with me. I’m not the kind of man you think I am. You made this mess, you deal with it.”
With that, he turned on his heel and left the room.
Zhuo Xiu stood frozen for a second, then panic crept in.
She tried to calm herself down and think through the options. Call someone to take Lu Yan to the hospital? Maybe, but what if Lu Yan came to and reported her afterward?
No. She had to strike first.
She’d already gone this far, so there was no turning back. If she was going to do something, she had to go all the way.
Zhuo Xiu’s eyes narrowed, venom swirling beneath her calm surface.
If Wang Haoran didn’t have the guts, then all she had to do find someone who did.
She opened her contacts and dialed a different number.
