I Can Copy And Evolve Talents - Chapter 1379 The Overseer

Chapter 1379 The Overseer
Northern sat on the edge of the pit and observed the battle through the eyes of his echoes. One stream of awareness tracked Judgment’s fight while another followed Sael, and he had watched the entire sequence up to the point where Revant arrived.
He had passed a mental command to Revant quickly, asking him to let the others join the battle and clean things up before coming to give a report about something interesting he had found on his way here.
That was the only reason Revant had stopped above the battlefield in the first place. Not because he was bored and wanted to enjoy himself. He wasn’t one such person!
‘He does love to maniacally enjoy himself though… he just has standards. And they are surprisingly high.’
Northern smiled slightly. It was an astounding thing to see, Lynus working with Jeci in the manner that he was.
He felt a little bad when he thought about the poor young man.
He had mistakenly abducted him and changed the course of his life forever. Maybe Lynus had forever carried that anger in his heart, that hatred for Northern burning as fuel, and thus strived to defeat him. Maybe when he finally managed to do so, he would find peace and calm.
‘Hmm…’
Regardless, this moment felt rewarding for Northern, who had watched him hate, get angry, and curse at everything else, him included.
It felt like the young man had finally grown. Or, to be merciful to him… was growing.
Northern rubbed his chin and studied the two of them. Through the wyvern’s eyes he carved across the battlefield from above, the creature’s gaze sweeping the expansive ground below and missing no detail of what was going on.
Jeci had finally caught up with the Commander of the Nightblood legion, as he called himself, and they were now locked in a deathly battle.
Even in the thick of it, Jeci was displaying an astonishing amount of growth.
Northern knew for a fact that behind that helmet of hers, she was probably baring her teeth in a demented grin and savoring every ounce of pain the Commander inflicted on her. That woman had always been wired differently.
However, what caught his attention the most was the nature of her growth mid-battle.
Jeci, despite her misfortune of a talent ability, had displayed a very crude tendency to improve quickly. Too quickly. He had seen it several times when she trained with Nebulous Lord while he was still Black Mamba.
Both of them were, in fact, alike in that way, sharing a tendency to grow at an almost horrifying rate.
And Northern suspected that their attributes had something to do with it.
Attributes, after all, were another part of the blessing Ul gave the Drifters of this world that many had not been able to fully hack.
Northern wanted to believe that an attribute contributed to one’s affinity towards a particular element. But it wasn’t restricted to elements of nature. It could be an element of anything.
Still, he could not fully conclude because he felt like there had to be a meeting point between True Names, Attributes, and Talents. All of them nestled on the soul, but what single thread tied them all together?
‘Why do I feel like that would be what will be instrumental to becoming a Transcendent and a Zenith?’
It was a faint suspicion in Northern’s heart, and he didn’t want to give it priority, but knowing himself, he couldn’t not think about it.
‘The major attribute that has led me to this point, and consumed or expelled all others, was Fated rank… come to think of it, it was inevitable then. Which means that I am going to be experiencing a very important change with Omniform when I’m about to become a Transcendent.’
Or would the point of becoming a Transcendent be understanding that important change?
Northern pondered on it for a bit but couldn’t find any answer at this moment.
At the same time, another stream of thought had not abandoned Jeci or Judgment, who was bloodily and stubbornly refusing to stay down no matter how many times her opponent crushed her with his weight manipulation talent.
‘I should forge Jeci a new armor… something like that one, but maybe even more compelling than that darkness thing.’
More than that, Northern felt like studying the armor itself would give him an opportunity to identify the strange dark knight that tried to kill him when he was born. The one that killed the three sisters.
It was slightly uncomfortable that he had unresolved mysteries around his birth. And they were beginning to stay unresolved for a little too long.
Then he focused on Commander Zebelon.
‘This man… he has a very fine talent.’
From the wyvern’s eyes, Northern commanded forth the descriptions of the man’s soul, taking a look at his talent.
Name: Zebelon Eferik
True Name: Commander of the Soulless
Attributes: Mental Fortress (Mystic)
Soul Rank: Transient (Sage)
Soul Saturation: Mid
Talent: Choir of the Dead
Talent Class: [S]
Talent Abilities: [Arise], [Grave-Link], [Corpse Stitch], [Corpse Bomb], [The Commander’s Echo]
‘Aoi…’
[Arise — By channeling essence into a deceased physical vessel, the user animates it into a “Husk.” Husks are physically enhanced but mindless thralls that follow basic commands.]
[Grave-Link — The user establishes a telepathic network with all active thralls within a 5-kilometer radius. They can issue complex commands instantly and see through the eyes of their thralls, making them exceptional at battlefield surveillance and coordinated strikes.]
[Corpse-Stitch — The user’s physical form undergoes a cellular transformation. Their body becomes cold and pale, optimizing itself for Dark Essence. If the user sustains a physical injury, they can instantly draw Soul Essence from nearby thralls and convert it to Dark Essence to knit their own flesh back together, destroying the thrall in the process.]
[Corpse Bomb — The user overcharges the essence core of a specific thrall and detonates it. The user can also fuse thralls together to generate even higher explosion force.]
[The Commander’s Echo — The user now perceives the “true nature” of the connection between a soul and its former life. Instead of creating a mindless Husk, the user can expend a massive amount of essence to summon a Wraith. A Wraith retains the muscle memory, combat skills, and even fragments of the Talent they possessed in life, acting as an elite lieutenant.]
