Chapter 403: Maria Waking Up
“Ummm… well not bad… not bad at all…” Razeal muttered quietly in his head as he leaned back slightly, still staring at the system panel where all his newly discovered affinities were listed one after another like some ridiculous catalog of destructive powers. Even after reading through every description, he still felt the faint thrill of excitement buzzing inside his chest.
Honestly, he couldn’t deny it every single one of those affinities looked insanely powerful just from their descriptions alone. His lips slowly curved into a faint grin as his mind started running wild with possibilities.
’I can definitely do a hell of things with this…’ he murmured thoughtfully. The more he thought about it, the more ridiculous the situation felt. Plague manipulatio decay domination? bone control?necromancy? hellfire? black lightning? hellstorms…? the list kept going.
Each one sounded like the specialty of an entire legendary mage by itself, yet he had somehow ended up with all of them sitting inside his affinity list. Naturally, his thoughts began drifting toward the ones that excited him the most.
Black lightning immediately stood out in his mind fast, corruptive, destructive lightning infused with dark energy? Just imagining bolts of black electricity tearing across the battlefield made him feel impatient to try it out.
Then there was necromancy. Razeal had always found the concept of commanding the dead strangely fascinating. Skeleton armies, spirits, revenants… the idea of raising fallen enemies and turning them into his own soldiers sounded both practical and intimidating.. Like he was even having idea of having vampire army already by turning people in who wanted too.. So yeah it wasn’t much surprise to him that hell like Necromany affinity..
But if he had to pick the one that truly caught his imagination, it was definitely Hellstorm Affinity. He still couldn’t get over that description. “Like… what the hell do you mean by launching hellstorms?” he thought incredulously.
The concept itself sounded completely absurd. A storm made of hellfire? demonic lightning? volcanic heat? chaotic storm power? raining ash or burning embers? maybe even meteoroids crashing down? Like It was like several natural disasters had been mashed together into one single magical ability. “That’s not even a spell anymore… that’s basically dropping the apocalypse on someone,” he muttered in his thoughts with a faint chuckle.
And then there was that phrase the system had used apocalyptic-level magic capable of devastating entire regions when unleashed at full power. He couldn’t help shaking his head slightly. “Like seriously… what does that even mean? Wiping out a whole kingdoms or Destroying a continent or something? Nukes of fantasy world??” Like imagine someone having ability to bring or launch this kind of storm in his old world? What be more choosen? Nuke or this?? Likee possibility of Meteoroids striking downn?? The idea sounded so ridiculous that he almost couldn’t choose
Anyways the system descriptions had been extremely clear. Hellstorm magic wasn’t normal affinity at all. It was catastrophic-level power.
For a moment Razeal simply stood there imagining what it would feel like to actually control such forces.
The thought alone made his excitement spike again. And now things were even better because he had just rediscovered that his training function still existed.
For a while he had believed it was permanently gone after the system incident, but now he knew he could still use it. That meant he could train inside it for as long as he wanted without worrying about time outside.
“Yeah… that’s perfect,” he thought eagerly. He can just grind these affinities until they hit their peak or perfection mastery or whatever it is.. Master of all dark Affinities.. Already imagining the tittle.. The excitement inside him almost felt chaotic at this point. He could already picture himself experimenting with hellfire storms, black lightning strikes, necromancy rituals, and plague magic or whatever all.
There were so many combinations he could test. For a few moments he completely forgot about everything else around him, lost inside his own thoughts as he imagined all the insane things he would eventually be able to do. But just as his mind was drifting deeper into that excited planning… a faint sound suddenly broke through the silence of the shop.
A weak, strained grunt escaped from Maria’s lips.
The sound immediately snapped Razeal back to reality. His head turned toward the counter table instantly. Maria, who had been lying there unconscious since the end of her transformation, was beginning to stir.. As put on that table by sofia.
Her body shifted slightly against the wooden surface as her breathing changed. Her eyelids trembled faintly.
“She’s waking up,” Sofia said quietly from beside the table, her voice carrying a small note of relief as she watched Maria carefully. She had been standing there the entire time, keeping a close eye on her condition.
Razeal nodded silently and stepped a little closer, his curiosity immediately replacing his earlier excitement.
He folded his arms across his chest and watched Maria closely. He was genuinely curious to see how she would react after waking up. After all, she had just gone through multiple evolutions at once becoming an Original Sin bearer, stabilizing demonic energy, and then undergoing a vampire transformation on top of that. Her body and power had changed drastically.
Honestly, he expected some kind of dramatic reaction. Shock? Confusion? Maybe even excitement when she realized how much stronger she had become. He even wondered briefly whether she might thank him for saving her life and giving her such power.
Though… knowing Maria’s personality, he wasn’t entirely confident about that part. Still, he watched quietly.
Maria’s eyelids slowly fluttered open. Her vision seemed unfocused at first as she stared up at the ceiling above her. She looked extremely weak, her body still adjusting to everything that had happened. Her breathing was slow and uneven as if even the act of waking up required effort.
After a moment she tried to move her head slightly. The movement was slow and sluggish, as if every muscle in her body felt heavy. She looked around the room in confusion, clearly disoriented. Her body still felt strange, unfamiliar. The transformation had changed too much at once.
Finally her gaze drifted across the room. And then her eyes met Razeal’s figure. He was standing there a short distance away with his arms crossed, watching her calmly. The moment Maria saw him clearly, something inside her seemed to break. Her eyes suddenly filled with tears. Razeal blinked in surprise. Maria’s lips trembled slightly as she pressed them tightly together, as if trying to stop herself from crying but the tears came anyway.
Slowly they began rolling down the sides of her face while she continued staring at him. She didn’t say a single word. She didn’t move. She just lay there weakly on the table, silently shaking her head as tears kept falling from her eyes. The sight completely confused Razeal.
He blinked again, clearly not understanding what was happening. “…What?” he thought. “Why is she crying?” His first instinct was that something might have gone wrong during the transformation? Or maybe the evolution process had caused pain or side effects? Or maybe her body was suffering some kind of hidden damage he hadn’t noticed yet? His expression shifted into a slight frown as he immediately focused his senses on Maria’s body, carefully examining her condition. He scanned her aura, her life energy, her internal stability everything.
But nothing seemed wrong. In fact, her condition looked almost perfect. Her energy was stabilizing smoothly, her life force was strong, and the transformations inside her body were continuing exactly as expected. There was no sign of injury, corruption, or instability. From every measurable perspective… she was completely fine. Yet she was still lying there crying quietly while staring at him. Razeal’s confusion only deepened as he looked at her. “Then… why is she crying? Whats the problem” he thought.. As Obiously completely misunderstanding the real reason behind those tears.
And before Razeal could think much further about Maria’s sudden tears, he noticed her body shift again.
Maria slowly and weakly began trying to push herself up from the counter table where she had been lying. The movement looked extremely difficult for her. Her muscles trembled faintly as she tried to raise herself, her arms shaking under the effort as if her body simply wasn’t used to functioning yet. It reminded Razeal of the way newborn creatures struggled when they first attempted to stand powerful potential inside them, but their bodies still fragile and unsteady as they adjusted. Maria planted one trembling arm against the table and tried to lift herself, but the strain was obvious. Her fingers tightened against the wooden surface while her arm quivered visibly. Even so, she kept trying.
“Hey.. lie down,” Sofia immediately said, stepping forward with concern as she noticed Maria forcing herself upright. Her voice was gentle but firm, the kind someone used when trying to calm a patient who had just come out of surgery. “Your body is still weak. Don’t force yourself. Are you okay? What happened?” she added softly while reaching out to support Maria. Sofia moved close enough to place a steady hand behind Maria’s back, trying to ease her down again so she wouldn’t strain herself further. But Maria didn’t stop. She kept pushing herself upright despite the trembling in her arm. Her movements were slow, uneven, and clearly painful. Yet she refused to lie back down. Her eyes never once left Razeal. Tears still continued streaming down her face as she stared at him with an expression so overwhelmed with emotion that it almost looked like she might break apart completely.
Sofia realized then that trying to force Maria back down wouldn’t work. Maria clearly had something she needed to do first. So instead of resisting her, Sofia adjusted her grip and gently supported Maria’s body while helping her sit upright on the edge of the table. She kept one hand near Maria’s shoulder in case she lost balance. Still, confusion lingered across Sofia’s face. Maria was crying uncontrollably while trying to stand despite being in such a fragile state. It didn’t make much sense at all. Then Sofia followed Maria’s gaze and saw that Maria hadn’t looked away from Razeal for even a second. Slowly, Sofia turned her head toward him. Without making a sound, she moved her lips slightly, silently asking him a question.
What happened to her?
Razeal saw the question immediately.
But he had no answer either?
He simply shook his head faintly, his expression just as confused as hers. He genuinely didn’t know what was going on.
From his perspective Maria had just woken up and immediately started crying while staring at him like the world had ended. His mind quickly ran through possibilities trying to make sense of it. Is she angry maybe? Did she somehow hear me telling Sofia about rejecting her while she was unconscious or what? The thought crossed his mind that maybe she had overheard something. Or perhaps she was upset because he forced the evolution process on her without asking her permission? And she maybe didn’t wanted it? Maybe there was some emotional backlash from the transformation. Or maybe she was simply overwhelmed by the sudden increase in power and changes in her body? There were too many possibilities, and none of them felt completely convincing. He really had no idea.. Yeah he doesn’t know..
Meanwhile Maria had finally managed to push herself fully upright. Her body swayed slightly from the effort, forcing Sofia to steady her again. But then Maria slowly pulled herself away from Sofia’s support. She carefully placed her feet on the floor and stood up. The moment she did, the weakness in her legs became obvious. Her steps were unsteady and slow, her balance clearly fragile. Still, she began walking toward Razeal.
One step.
Then another.
Each movement looked like it required effort.
Sofia’s concern immediately grew when she saw Maria trying to walk on her own. “Maria, calm down,” she said quickly while moving alongside her. “You’re going to hurt yourself like this.. You just went through an evolution. Your body hasn’t stabilized yet..” Her voice carried genuine worry now. From Sofia’s perspective Maria was behaving strangely crying, forcing herself upright, and now trying to walk despite being barely able to stand properly. “If you’re upset about something, you can talk about it later,” she continued gently. “There’s no need to rush.. Calm down first.”
For a brief moment Sofia even wondered if the evolution process might have affected Maria’s mind somehow. It wouldn’t have been the first time a drastic transformation caused temporary mental instability. Razeal himself briefly considered the same possibility. Maria’s behavior was definitely strange. Someone who had just awakened after becoming thousands of times stronger should normally feel shock, excitement, or disbelief. They certainly shouldn’t be crying like this. It simply didn’t match the situation at all.
But before either of them could continue guessing, Maria finally spoke.
“You… were wronged,” she said weakly between breaths, her voice trembling as the words forced themselves out through her tears. “You were really innocent…” she continued, shaking her head repeatedly while crying harder. Her words came out uneven and broken, as if she was struggling to accept the reality herself even while saying it aloud.
The moment Sofia heard that sentence, everything suddenly made sense.
“Oh…” she murmured quietly under her breath.
So that was it.
Maria had learned the truth.
Sofia immediately remembered the earlier moment when Maria discovered that Razeal had been falsely accused of rape by Selena and Celestia. Like Maria had believed the accusations before just like everyone else had. She had thought Razeal truly committed that crime. But when the truth came out that the accusation had been fabricated.. the shock must’ve completely shattered her understanding of everything that had happened.
Sofia remembered very clearly how violently Maria reacted when she realized the truth. She had lost control of herself completely. Maria’s rage had exploded to the point that she actually tried to kill Selena and Celestia right there even when just some minutes before she was trying to convince her not to do that.. Like sofia could still remember that terrifying moment the sky above the capital filled with Maria’s killing intent and blazing power. The entire capital might had felt it. Maria had seemed to entered a berserk state or whatever that was. As her aura blazing like wildfire. Even Sofia, who was used to intense combat, had been shocked and totally confused by the sheer intensity of Maria’s fury. And the transformation that followed… that strange state Maria entered while trying to kill them… it had been weird and frightening to witness.
Now, standing here in front of Razeal, Maria was finally facing him after learning the truth.
Sofia slowly withdrew the hand she had been using to support Maria. She realized that stepping in right now might not be the best thing to do. This wasn’t just about physical weakness anymore. This was about something far deeper. Maria had believed for a long time that Razeal had committed an unforgivable crime. That belief shaped the way she looked at him, the way she judged him, the way she treated him. And now she had discovered that everything she believed was wrong. That kind of realization could shake a person completely.
Sofia quietly stepped back and folded her arms loosely, watching the scene unfold.
Her eyes moved between Maria and Razeal.
This… is their misunderstanding to resolve, she thought silently.
And for once, she decided not to interfere.
The shop fell into a heavy silence as Maria stood there weakly in front of Razeal, tears still falling from her eyes while she struggled to face the truth she had only just accepted.
