Chapter 389: Chapter 389 I Spent Three Million Years in Seclusion and Forgot How to Walk
Shi Dong’s head lolled to the side, mouth slightly open, a faint trail of dried saliva still visible at the corner of his lips.
His robes, once pristine and imposing, were now wrinkled… and noticeably stained.
The two guards exchanged a brief, uneasy glance but said nothing.
They began walking toward a nearby carriage prepared for transport.
Each step was careful at first. Measured.Respectful.
After all, regardless of his current state, Shi Dong had been a powerful figure.
But as they moved…
Things began to go wrong.
“Slowly… slowly…” the guard holding the shoulders muttered, adjusting his grip as Shi Dong’s upper body shifted awkwardly.
“Don’t rush it.”
“I’m not rushing!” the other snapped back quietly. “You’re the one tilting him!”
“I’m not tilting… hey, watch it!”
Shi Dong’s body suddenly sagged more heavily to one side.
“Oh no… it’s slipping!”
“Hold him steady!”
“I’ve got it… wait! no, I don’t!”
The city guard holding the legs abruptly froze. His entire body stiffened.
“…Huh?” He blinked. Once. Twice. Then slowly lowered his gaze toward his hands.
And instantly regretted it.
A thick, suspicious residue had somehow smeared across his palms… and it didn’t take long for the smell to follow.
A beat of silence. Then…
“AHHH!”
He let out a sharp, high-pitched yelp, his voice cracking in a way that made several nearby guards flinch in surprise.
“What’s wrong with you?!” his partner hissed, nearly losing his own balance.
The unfortunate guard stared at his hands in horror, his face cycling rapidly through shades of pale, green, and red.
“I… I… this… this is…!”
The smell hit him fully now. His stomach churned violently.
For a terrifying moment, it looked like he might actually drop Shi Dong on the spot.
“Don’t you dare drop him!” the other guard snapped, though his own face was already turning red not from disgust, but from the overwhelming urge to laugh.
His lips trembled uncontrollably. His shoulders began to shake.
He quickly turned his head away, biting down hard on the inside of his cheek.
Hold it in… hold it in…
But it was a losing battle.
A faint snort escaped him despite his efforts. The surrounding guards noticed.
Some coughed awkwardly, turning their heads.
Others pressed their lips together tightly, eyes darting around as they struggled to maintain discipline.
A few in the distant crowd weren’t as restrained as soft snickers and muffled laughter began to ripple outward.
The contrast was too much. A Spirit Severing Realm expert… Reduced to this.
It was better to die fast than shit all over the place.
The guard holding the legs quickly glanced around, panic flashing across his eyes as he realized people were watching.
No. No, no, no… I can’t look incompetent here…!
His jaw tightened.
With immense effort, he forced his expression back into something resembling professionalism.
His back straightened, and he lifted his chin slightly, as if nothing unusual had happened.
“…It’s under control,” he said stiffly, though his voice wavered just a little. “Maintain… formation.”
Meanwhile, his hands… still very much not under control trembled faintly.
“Yeah… under control,” the other guard muttered, his voice strained as he fought back another laugh.
“Let’s just… get him into the carriage,” he added quickly.
Step by step, they resumed moving. More carefully this time. Much more carefully.
Every movement was tense, heart thumping, as if they were handling something far more dangerous than a mere unconscious body.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, they reached the carriage.
“On three,” the shoulder guard whispered.
“…Fine.”
“One… two… three!”
They lifted and shoved Shi Dong’s body into the carriage, letting out quiet sighs of relief the moment they released him.
The guard holding the legs immediately stepped back, subtly wiping his hands against the inside of his uniform when he thought no one was looking.
Unfortunately for him… Several people were looking. More muffled laughter followed.
Through it all, Lin Feng remained where he stood.
As if the entire scene from Shi Dong’s fall to this final humiliation was nothing more than a trivial distraction.
And that… was what made it all the more terrifying.

More than a dozen hours later, under the cover of deep night, Lu Ben finally crept toward the city morgue.
The streets were nearly empty, the occasional flicker of lantern light casting long, distorted shadows across the ground.
A cold wind brushed past, carrying with it a faint, unpleasant scent that only grew stronger the closer he got.
“This should be the perfect time to rescue Master…” Lu Ben thought, his eyes narrowing as he hid within the darkness.
His plan was simple. Sneak in. Retrieve Shi Dong. Disappear before anyone noticed.
After that… he would find a way to cure him. Lu Ben’s gaze hardened slightly.
He had seen this before.
What Shi Dong was going through now… it wasn’t entirely unfamiliar.
His former partner, Guo Han, had once suffered a similar fate after offending Lin Feng.
Back then, it had taken tremendous effort and rare resources to bring him back.
But in the end… it had worked.
“As long as I can find a method to treat Master Shi Dong…” Lu Ben’s lips curled faintly. “He will owe me his life.”
“And when that happens…” His heartbeat quickened slightly.
“The rewards will be unimaginable.”
With that thought in mind, he slipped silently toward the entrance and entered the morgue.
Inside, the air was cold and still. Deathly still.
It was already close to two in the morning, and the entire place was wrapped in silence. No guards.
No movement. Only rows of covered bodies and the faint creaking of old wooden beams.
Lu Ben slowed his breathing, carefully controlling every step he took.
Even the smallest sound felt amplified in this place. His eyes scanned the surroundings, searching.
Where did they put him…?
He moved deeper inside, passing one covered corpse after another.
Each one added a scary weight to the atmosphere, pressing down on his nerves.
But he didn’t have to search for long. Just as he stepped past another row…
“Are you lost, little boy?” A voice sounded behind him.
