Chapter 583: Chapter 460: Snow Beasts Frozen, Holy Blood Fleeing
The frigid wind of the polar night swirled with ice shards, fiercely crashing against the fortress walls of Ice Extreme Pass, emitting a howling “woo woo”.
Above the fortress walls, several commanding officers stood side by side with Xiong, Terreda, Old Ghost, Li Qi, and other key figures, their gazes steadfastly fixed on the distant horizon.
In the darkness, thousands of Snow Beasts were charging with heavy steps, their hoofbeats causing the frozen ground to tremble slightly, their scarlet beast eyes forming a continuous line in the darkness, like moving ghostly flames.
“Mr. Li Qi.”
Zhang Hao tightly clutched the saber at his waist, his voice low, “Ice Extreme Pass just went through an ice storm, Spiritual Energy shells are already running low, and under polar night conditions, Spiritual Energy guns have also been stored away.”
His gaze swept over the powerful Tier Six elites beside him, ultimately returning to Li Qi — he could tell that among this group, Li Qi perhaps wasn’t the strongest in combat, yet he was the Military Lord’s most trusted deputy, and the other powerful warriors were willing to listen to his orders, his prestige unmatched.
“I kindly ask for your and everyone’s extra attention in the upcoming battle.”
Zhang Hao’s tone carried a sense of earnestness.
Li Qi nodded, responding simply with two words: “Rest assured.”
Ice Extreme Pass was the boss’s territory, it was their duty to defend it.
But as his gaze swept over the unremarkable mounds below the fortress walls, there was a deeper meaning in his eyes — the voice that had suddenly sounded in his mind was still clearly echoing in his ears.
“Leave them to me.”
The voice, crisp yet somewhat immature, at first made Li Qi think someone had invaded his soul, giving him a good fright.
It wasn’t until he sensed the familiar plant aura that he realized the voice’s owner was the boss’s companion Spirit Plant — the Soul-Devouring Demon Vine.
Li Qi was no stranger to this demon vine; he had seen it strangle demons multiple times in the Demon Suppression Abyss, deeply aware of its terror.
But he never imagined that this plant, known only for devouring, had actually awakened spiritual intelligence and could communicate directly through the soul.
What surprised him even more was that the demon vine had long since laid seed formations outside the ice walls, waiting for the Snow Beasts to step in, whereupon thousands of vines would emerge from the soil and devour them all.
Even though confident in the demon vine’s strength, Li Qi still stayed at the frontline.
There were too many variables on the battlefield, and he had to be cautious of unforeseen events.
As the tide of Snow Beasts drew closer to the seed formation, Li Qi was about to remind everyone to be on guard, when his peripheral vision caught sight of a slender figure walking up the fortress wall. He quickly turned aside, nodded politely: “Mr. Lan.”
The newcomer wore a thin, plain-colored robe, his face still unperturbed even in the wind cold enough to crack steel — it was Lan.
Facing Li Qi’s greeting, Lan merely nodded lightly — Qin Tian was not present, and he didn’t understand Empire language, so he could only respond in this silent manner, appearing somewhat aloof.
Li Qi had no issue with this, his respect unwavering.
He knew Lan was crucial to awakening the Cold Tree, and that was enough for him to treat him with solemnity.
“Boom! Boom! Boom!”
Thunderous sounds echoed from afar.
Before the Snow Beasts had reached the fortress walls, all kinds of ice and snow attacks had arrived first — snowballs, ice spikes, ice blades, densely interwoven, crashing towards the fortress walls.
The soldiers atop the walls instantly tensed their nerves, instinctively gripping their weapons.
Although Ice Extreme Pass had an activated cold shield from the Cold Tree, none could be sure if this layer of light shield could withstand such concentrated attacks.
Fortunately, before they could act, the pale blue Energy Shield had already lit up, like a transparent dome, blocking all the icy attacks outside, continuous “bang bang” collision sounds resounding, yet the Energy Shield did not ripple at all.
The soldiers immediately breathed a sigh of relief, showing joy on their faces.
They all knew, after the ice storm, Ice Extreme Pass’s energy reserves were already depleted, even if some Energy Crystals were dug from the Snow Beast corpses, they needed purification to be usable.
Were it not for the Military Lord bringing back the Cold Tree laden with pure crystals, and the crystals being directly usable in the reactor, they wouldn’t have been able to activate such a formidable Energy Shield.
“Mage army ready!”
Zhang Hao, seeing the situation, immediately ordered loudly, “As soon as the Snow Beasts enter range, open fire!”
With the Energy Shield blocking the ranged attacks, they simply needed to hold during close combat, and victory would be mostly ensured.
On the fortress walls, Lan looked at the charging Snow Beasts heading his way, his brow furrowed slightly.
He recalled Qin Tian’s instructions before he left:
“Lan, if anyone attacks my territory, please help protect my subordinates.”
Since awakening, Qin Tian was the first person he encountered, and he could sense the goodwill Qin Tian extended towards him.
Most people find it hard to truly see through a person’s heart.
Of course, he couldn’t do that either.
However, he could sense truthfully whether others’ attitude towards him was good or evil.
If they’re friendly towards him, then they’re likely friends.
If a friend encounters trouble, he should lend a hand.
At this moment, seeing the Snow Beasts radiating a furious aura, Lan slowly raised his hand, his palm sparking a faint ice-blue light, like a frozen star.
“Mr. Lan, you…” Zhang Hao just wanted to inquire, but his words suddenly caught in his throat, his facial expression freezing instantly.
Not only him, everyone on the fortress wall widened their eyes, staring at the ice plain before them, faces full of disbelief.
The cold wind seemed to freeze at this moment.
The ice-blue light in Lan’s palm rapidly erupted, transforming into an invisible freezing wave, sweeping towards the group of Snow Beasts at a speed barely discernible to the naked eye.
Wherever it passed, the rushing snow and wind instantly froze, even the air seemed to turn into ice crystals.
Those Snow Beasts frenziedly running, were halted abruptly as the freezing wave swept over them — some with their front hooves suspended in mid-air, some with mouths agape as if about to roar, yet their entire bodies were enveloped by a thick layer of ice, turning into vivid ice sculptures.
