- Chapter 2316: After the Birthday Party ⑩

<Author’s Notes>
Yesterday, while I was riding my scooter, I got stung in the neck by a skilled bee as it passed by, and the pain was so intense I was writhing in agony, so I took the day off.
(T/N: The Japanese use hachi for Hymenoptera in general, so the author could be stung by either a bee, a wasp, or a hornet, not sure which.)
After Kaito’s birthday party came to an end, Kaori and Akane decided to chat a bit and moved together to Kaori’s shop to talk about how the party went.
[Wow, that really was an incredible party. With the way time flows differently over there, it honestly felt like I just had a dream.]
[Yeah, Kaito sure is as tremendous as ever. That guy is living in a totally different dimension from us. Not even at the Festival of Heroes do you see a lineup like that…… But well, having that boat party in between really helped take the edge off.]
[Well~~ My stomach was still in knots though. But yeah, having a heads-up this time made a big difference.]
It was true that this birthday party had gathered a truly astounding cast of people. For the two of them, who could be considered “ordinary” attendees, it had been an overwhelming situation where no matter which direction they looked, they were surrounded by big names.
However, thanks to the boat party hosted earlier by Kaito, they already had an idea of who would be showing up, so they were mentally prepared and that helped a lot.
On top of that, this time even the servants from Lilia’s mansion, Kuromueina’s family, subordinates of the War King and the World King who knew Kaito, had all gathered. Compared to the boat party, the presence of less “overwhelming” attendees helped soften the overall pressure somewhat.[Oh yeah, Kaori, here’s the prize money from the hidden talent contest…… Half-half sound fair?]
[Oh right, we came in third place, didn’t we? I was really surprised when Akane-san suddenly said you wanted to join, but it turned out really well. Still, performing in front of that lineup was seriously nerve-wracking……]
[Well, at least we got our names out there. Might even bring in some new customers to your shop huh?]
[No, I already have more than enough amazing people dropping by…… Honestly, ever since I got to know Kaito-kun, my shop’s been visited by VIPs one after another. It’s kind of terrifying. Like, I’m seriously scared he might bring someone like Shallow Vernal-sama over someday.]
Accepting the envelope with the prize money that Akane handed over, Kaori gave a strained, awkward smile.
[But hey, whatever the case, extra income like this is always nice. Maybe I’ll treat myself to a nice new cooking uten…… sils……]
[Hm? What’s up?]
Though the future gave her stomach anxiety, Kaori had been genuinely excited at the thought of the bonus income. She opened the envelope to check inside, but immediately froze up like she’d turned to stone, then closed the envelope and rubbed her eyes.
As if she thought her exhaustion had caused her to hallucinate, and she needed to clear her vision for a second look……
[W- Well, I thought I was seeing things…… The amount in there seemed wrong……]
[Eh? I thought I put it in properly. Wasn’t it five platinum coins?]
[It was in there! That’s why I’m freaking out! Wait, you put five!? I saw something platinum-looking and shut it right away, but…… five!? That’s…… That’s 50 million yen……]
[Yeah, between the two of us it’s 1,000,000R…… so that’s 100 million yen total. If third place gets that much, second must be 300 million and first, what, 500 million? Man, talk about generous.]
[Wait, wait, wait! How are you so calm about this, Akane-san!? That’s five platinum coins!!!]
While Kaori was clearly shaken by the prize of five platinum coins per person, Akane remained perfectly composed.
[No, I mean, we’re talking about a party with that kind of guest list, you know? Of course the prize money would be around that level.]
[I- I mean, y- yeah, I guess…… But still, it’s shocking. Just from doing a silly performance, I got way more than I’ve ever managed to save up. Who wouldn’t be surprised by that?]
[Yeah, fair point. It’s not often regular people get that kind of money after all.]
[……You know, Akane-san, I sometimes forget, but you’re actually pretty rich, aren’t you?]
[Well yeah, I’m the head of a mid-sized trading company. In Japanese terms, it’s kind of like being the CEO of a startup, so I’ve got a decent amount. But compared to Kaito, I’m practically invisible.]
In reality, Akane’s trading company was a mid-tier business with significant clients, and her financial resources were considerable.
In particular, Akane was a master of Teleportation Magic. She often received high-paying requests from other companies to transport goods using her magic, so her personal wealth was nothing to scoff at.
[Honestly, I kind of thought I was the richest among the Otherworlders……]
[I’ve never really thought about it, but…… Kaito-kun’s that wealthy?]
[He’s definitely got at least a major corporation’s worth. And if you seriously calculated the value of all the stuff he casually tosses into his magic box and forgets about, his total wealth might literally be on the level of a nation. I heard he’s got dozens of Fruits of the World Tree in there……]
[He’s a monster…… That boy really is just on a whole different scale.]
[No kidding~~]
Once again confronted with just how absurd Kaito was, the two of them shared a strained laugh as they continued to chat about him for a while longer.
<Afterword>
Serious-senpai : [……In fact, I bet Kaito’s magic box is packed with an absolutely ridiculous amount of insane stuff.]
