- Chapter 2468: Movie Watching with Kaori ④

We eat the sandwiches Kaori-san deftly prepared, and while taking a light post-meal break, we talk about what to do next.
[What should we do? Time-wise, it looks like we could still watch two more movies, but…… wouldn’t watching films back-to-back be tiring?]
[Hmm, yeah. I do feel like watching one more, but I think I want a bit of a break in between. How about we just chat for a while…… Kaito-kun, do you have any movies you’d recommend?]
[Let’s see. I watched one at home the other day that was pretty interesting. I thought it was horror, genre-wise, but it leaned heavily into comedy, so rather than scary, it was more fun……]
With Kaori-san prompting me, I talk about a movie I’d seen before, carefully avoiding spoilers. She listens with interest, nodding along, occasionally asking questions, and our idle chatter continues on pleasantly.
Then, when the conversation reaches a natural pause, Kaori-san suddenly changes the subject, looking as if she’s just remembered something.
[……Speaking of which, I just realized something at home earlier, but…… now that I think about it, I’ve never been to your place, Kaito-kun.]
[Ah, that’s true. Akane-san has come over a few times, but you haven’t, Kaori-san.]
[Unn. I’ve heard from Akane-san that it’s an absolutely enormous mansion, though.]
[The exterior is basically a copy of Lilia-san’s estate, so…… it’s pretty much the same as a ducal mansion. There’s no doubt it’s a huge place. Well, we have way more rooms than we can use, so it’s hard to say we’re making full use of its size, but……]
The interior is different, but from the outside it looks almost exactly the same as Lilia-san’s estate, so calling it a mansion is certainly accurate. That said, compared to Lilia-san’s estate, which employs a large number of servants, my house has an overwhelming number of empty rooms.
Not everyone actually lives in the estate, but Lilia-san’s place has dozens of servants and a security force that might as well be private soldiers. Compared to that, the number of residents in my house is overwhelmingly small.
Me, Anima, Caraway, Eta, Theta, Mom, Dad, Aoi-chan, Hina-chan, and Canalis-san, ten people in total…… Nebula is at the World Tree, so there’s no room for her, and Illness-san has a room at Lilia-san’s estate, so she doesn’t live at my house either.
Other than that, I sometimes rent out rooms to servants from Lilia-san’s estate whom I’m particularly close with.
Living at one’s workplace can be mentally exhausting, but commuting from outside can be tough in its own way. Lilia-san’s estate is located in a high-end residential area of the central district, so even renting a place nearby is expensive. If you rent a cheaper room in another district, the distance to the estate becomes considerable, making the commute difficult.
Luna-san, for example, also commutes from another district, but since she can effectively be considered one of Lilia-san’s close aides, she was given a pair of registered teleportation magic tools, one for her home and one for the estate. Thanks to that, commuting from another district isn’t an issue for her.
However, it’s not feasible to lend such expensive teleportation magic tools to ordinary servants, so commuting servants apparently have it pretty rough.
It all started when I was consulted by one of those servants I get along with and talk to often, and I rented out a room in my house at a low price. Apparently, just having a single covered walkway between work and home makes a big psychological difference, and it was well received. After that, I suggested the same arrangement to other commuting servants I was close with, and as a result, a few of them now rent rooms in my house…… Even so, it’s only 5 people, so with a total of 15 residents, we still have rooms to spare everywhere.
[……Kaori-san, are you interested in my place?]
[Unn. How should I put it, kind of like wanting to see something scary out of curiosity…… I do want to see what kind of place it is.]
[Then, how about we move to my house and watch the next movie there? We can get there instantly with my teleportation magic tool, and if we register the coordinates on your teleportation magic tool, it’ll be easier for you to drop by in the future if you ever have business there……]
[That’s a really tempting proposal, and I definitely want to go, but…… wouldn’t it be sudden and inconvenient?]
[Not a problem at all.]
[Then, since we’re at it, I guess I’ll take you up on it and come visit……]
Since Kaori-san usually has her shop to run, until now I’ve always been the one going to see her, but today is her regular day off, and timing-wise, it feels just right.
[Then, shall we head out right away?]
[Unn…… ah, Kaito-kun, if it’s okay, this might be a bit selfish of me, but could I ask you for a favor?]
[A favor?]
[Unn. I was thinking of asking Akane-san next time, but…… I’d really like you to take me to the Archlesia Empire once. I think I mentioned before that Chris-san took really good care of me in various ways, but even when I wanted to see her, the Archlesia Empire is far away, so I haven’t really had many chances to visit. Since I finally got a teleportation magic tool, I was thinking it’d be nice to register the capital of the Archlesia Empire as a destination.]
[Ah, I see. In that case, how about we stop by the Archlesia Empire once before going to my house?]
[Thanks, that really helps.]
Hmmm…… if that’s the case, maybe we could even go and see Chris-san briefly. Of course, that would depend on checking her schedule first, but for now, I’ll just try proposing the idea to Kaori-san.
