Chapter 627 Ji Jiuwu Returns Home
Early morning, a ray of first sunlight brushed across the earth, bringing a touch of warmth to all living beings.
On the city walls of the Long River Tribe, patrolling guards were just about to open the city gate when they suddenly saw a young man cultivating beneath the wall. Their expressions immediately changed drastically.
In the soldiers’ understanding, the night concealed great terrors. Spending a night outside the city meant one might be eaten by a demonic beast or a strange creature, or even have one’s body possessed by a strange creature.
He hurriedly shouted, “Someone, there is someone beneath the city wall!”
This loud shout instantly alarmed the surrounding companions. They gathered around that soldier and looked in the direction of his finger. After seeing the person clearly, one soldier among the crowd said, “That young man looks a bit like Ji Jiuwu, who went missing three years ago. I heard his father searched for him for quite a while. Looking at his current state, could he have been possessed by a demon?”
“Quick… quickly go invite the Priest, to see if this kid has been possessed by a demon,” the City Guard Captain hurriedly shouted.
A moment later, a Priest appeared atop the city tower. He held a demon-driving banner in his hand. Seeing Ji Jiuwu beneath the city wall and sensing the aura emanating from him, he immediately snorted coldly.
“Hmph! You bunch of idiots, how could Jiuwu be possessed by a demon? The True Qi emanating from him is no different from that of a Celestial Human. Although his cultivation has not yet reached the Celestial Human Realm, the fact that he can emit True Qi means he cannot be possessed; True Qi is the nemesis of demons.”
The expressions of everyone present changed drastically upon hearing this. True Qi was a hallmark unique to Celestial Humans, but they could not understand why Ji Jiuwu could cultivate True Qi despite clearly not having stepped into the Celestial Human Realm.
The Priest could naturally see the doubts in these fellows’ hearts. He smiled and said, “If you want to know, wouldn’t it be fine to ask Jiuwu along with me? Let’s go.”
The Priest waved his hand, opened the city gate, and led the group toward the outside of the city. With the Priest, a powerhouse at the Spirit Condensation Realm, overseeing them, everyone did not worry that Ji Jiuwu would suddenly attack.
Before the crowd could approach, Ji Jiuwu slowly opened his eyes. Seeing the leading Priest, he hurriedly stood up and performed a respectful salute, saying, “Jiuwu pays respects to Grandpa Jiu.”
“Ah.”
Seeing Ji Jiuwu’s polite manner, the Priest could not help but feel a bit more pleased and jokingly remarked, “Grandpa Jiu, you kid left home for three years and returned, and your whole person has become so polite.”
Ji Jiuwu smiled and said, “I won’t hide it from Grandpa Jiu. During my departure this time, I witnessed a celestial phenomenon descending. By a stroke of fate, I became the disciple of an immortal. I not only learned cultivation methods but also learned etiquette.”
“Not bad, not bad.”
The Priest automatically ignored the word ‘immortal’ and continued praising, “You kid gained no small opportunity during this trip; this is truly something to be congratulated!”
“Grandpa Jiu flatters me; Jiuwu was merely lucky.”
Ji Jiuwu scratched his head. “Grandpa Jiu, are my grandfather and family at home well?”
Hearing this, the Priest frowned slightly and said, “Jiuwu, your grandfather is fine. However, your father’s lineage has encountered some small trouble. You will know when you return; Grandpa Jiu won’t say much more.”
“What?”
Ji Jiuwu’s expression changed drastically at these words. He did not expect that his own home had actually encountered a problem. After all, his father was a powerhouse at the Spirit Condensation Realm; if he encountered trouble, it was no small matter.
“Grandpa Jiu, I will head home first and visit you later.”
“Mhm, go ahead.”
The Priest did not try to keep him, nor did he excessively ask about Ji Jiuwu’s opportunities outside. In his view, Ji Jiuwu was a direct grandson of the Ji family. As long as he did not conspire with demons and did not harm the tribe, there was no problem with whatever he did.
After the group of soldiers watched Ji Jiuwu walk away, they revealed expressions of regret. They still wanted to know how Ji Jiuwu cultivated True Qi before stepping into the Celestial Human Realm.
The Priest naturally discerned the thoughts of these soldiers. He sternly warned, “No one is allowed to leak today’s events. If this Priest finds out you are running your mouths outside, I will feed your entire families to the River God.”
“We respectfully obey the Priest’s command.”
The soldiers said in unison.
The leading captain asked, “Grandpa Jiu, are we not going to report this matter to the clan?”
The Priest said, “In a moment, you will accompany this old man to visit the Clan Chief and the High Priest. We will tell them about this matter and let the two of them decide.”
“Understood.”
The captain responded, then followed the Priest to head toward the Stone Mansion where the Clan Chief resided.
On the other side, Ji Jiuwu was anxious to return home. He walked along the long street, and the houses on both sides of the road gradually changed from earthen houses to stone houses. A moment later, he stopped outside a stone mansion constructed with a surrounding wall.
He stepped forward and knocked lightly on the mansion’s gate. A moment later, the gate was opened from the inside. A thin middle-aged man wearing hemp clothes asked, “Who are you?”
Ji Jiuwu saw the middle-aged man and smiled, saying, “Ape Uncle, I am Jiuwu.”
Hearing the words ‘Jiuwu’, the middle-aged man’s face revealed a look of ecstasy. After examining him closely, he shouted loudly, “Young Master Jiuwu, you have finally returned! The Master has been sending people to look for you for these three years. Where exactly have you been?”
“This is not the place to talk. I will naturally explain to my father after I return,” Ji Jiuwu said indifferently.
“It is this old servant who is confused. Young Master, please enter quickly.”
Seeing how much Ji Jiuwu had changed, Ape Uncle understood in his heart that there were some things he should not ask.
A moment later, many people arrived in the courtyard. The leader was a tall, burly, dark-skinned middle-aged man. He wore a wolf fang around his neck, making him look exceptionally fierce.
Beside the middle-aged man was a wheat-skinned, beautiful middle-aged woman. As soon as the woman saw Ji Jiuwu, she cried out loudly, “Jiuwu, my son, you have finally returned.”
Just as the beautiful woman was about to pounce on Ji Jiuwu, the middle-aged man beside her stopped her. He stared fixedly at Ji Jiuwu, as if trying to see right through him.
“Jiuwu pays respects to Father, Mother,” Ji Jiuwu said, taking the lead to salute.
The middle-aged man did not relax his vigilance just because Ji Jiuwu had become gentle and refined. He even used his Divine Sense to pry into Ji Jiuwu. Although the youth before him looked exactly like his son, the changes in him were simply too great.
The previous Ji Jiuwu was an unruly wild boy, and his skin was bronze-colored. The youth before him, however, had fair skin, was graceful, and carried himself with the demeanor of a Great Witch, causing the father to be wary.
“Husband, what is wrong?” The woman asked resentfully, seeing her husband remain silent. Her son had finally returned; why was he putting on airs here?
Hearing this, the middle-aged man asked indifferently, “Are you really Jiuwu?”
At these words, Ji Jiuwu was speechless. This was already the second time today he had faced such interrogation. He glanced around and said, “Replying to Father, your son is indeed Jiuwu. However, some words are not convenient to speak of here.”
Ji’s father said in a deep voice, “Then come with me to see your grandfather.”
“Good.”
Ji Jiuwu did not refuse; he originally wanted to see his grandfather anyway.
“Husband, Jiuwu has only just returned; can’t you let him rest for a while?” The woman asked, feeling very heartbroken.
Ji’s father said, “Wife, this matter cannot be delayed. You don’t want Heng’er to have any more problems, do you?”
The woman’s expression changed upon hearing this. She glanced at Ji Jiuwu, then turned her head away.
Ji Jiuwu could no longer remain calm and hurriedly asked, “What happened to Big Brother?”
Ji’s father said, “I will naturally tell you on the way. Let’s go.”
“Okay.”
Ji Jiuwu responded, then followed his father out of the house, heading toward the city center.
It was still early morning, and there were not many pedestrians in the city. Ji Jiuwu asked with concern, “Father, you still haven’t told me what exactly happened to Big Brother?”
Seeing that the concern in Ji Jiuwu’s eyes was not fake, Ji’s father then spoke, “Your brother was seriously injured a month ago. Although his life was saved, he has not yet woken up and cannot participate in the Clan Grand Competition seven days from now.”
“How was he injured, and what did the Witch Doctor say?” Ji Jiuwu completely ignored the Clan Grand Competition mentioned by his father and only cared about his brother’s injury.
Hearing these words, Ji’s father could already confirm that the youth before him was indeed his son, Ji Jiuwu. Only the real Jiuwu would care so much about his big brother. However, in his current state, he still had to meet the Clan Chief and the High Priest before he could be allowed to stay in the tribe.
Ji’s father said indifferently, “Jiuwu, after we return, I will take you to visit your brother.”
“Mm.”
Ji Jiuwu nodded and subconsciously quickened his pace. A moment later, the two arrived outside the City Lord’s Mansion…
