- Chapter 221: Other Possibilities

This action left Chen Yan somewhat puzzled.
Why hide his face?
From his perspective, the seemingly Upper Three Realms powerhouse standing in front of him was very likely one of Star Heaven Sect’s Grand Elders.
Especially the way he discreetly measured the heavens and calculated fate;
that motion made Chen Yan suspect the man’s realm might be above the Dao Union.
There were only six Dao Union powerhouses on the Chenping Continent in total. Lingxiao Temple had two of them, and each of the other four Great Sects had one.
As for the Dao Union Grand Elder of Star Heaven Sect, Chen Yan did not know his name or appearance, but he did suspect that this young man—who hung a Star Heaven Sect token at his waist—might very well be that Dao Union powerhouse of Star Heaven Sect.
The two Chenhui Gate disciples who walked toward them did not notice the young man’s small movement beside Chen Yan;
they merely brushed past.
A Grand Elder traveling the world would very likely want to avoid having disciples from their sect recognize them.
But if they did not want to be recognized, why wear a token at all?
Besides, the token at his waist without any inscription, judging by its material and aura, was in no way the same grade as the tokens Chen Yan had seen worn by Kongshan Sect’s Grand Elders back then.
It looked more like an ordinary disciple’s token.
Chen Yan could not make sense of it.
After walking a while further, the young man led Chen Yan to a tea stall and sat down.
“Senior.”
Chen Yan spoke.
“Since I have already told you my real name, may I ask if you can tell me who you really are…”
“You can guess.”
The young man said with a smile.
Chen Yan’s expression tightened slightly, then he said:
“May I ask, are you a Grand Elder of Star Heaven Sect?”
“No.”
The young man shook his head.
No?
This answer stunned Chen Yan a bit. The other party was clearly an Upper Three Realms cultivator, but not a Star Heaven Sect Grand Elder—could it be that…
“Then, are you the current sect master of Star Heaven Sect, Shao Qianjun, Master Shao?”
Chen Yan asked again.
“No.”
The young man denied it once more.
Chen Yan really could not guess the true identity of this apparently young Upper Three Realms powerhouse before him.
“Fine, fine. Even if you guessed every person across the Chenping Continent, you still wouldn’t figure out my identity.”
The young man said:
“My surname is You. You can call me Senior You, but I prefer Mr. You. I’m not a Star Heaven Sect Grand Elder, and certainly not the current sect master. I’m just a rogue cultivator.”
A rogue cultivator?
Chen Yan looked at the Star Heaven Sect token at Mr. You’s waist.
“You mean this?”
Mr. You took the token from his waist, placed it on the table in front of them, and flipped it face up.
There were no characters engraved on it—just a blank token.
“I carved it myself for fun. Wearing a token like this makes traveling in the southern territories a bit more convenient.”
Mr. You said with a smile.
“However, you still have to be careful when you meet Star Heaven Sect disciples. If you’re exposed, it probably won’t end well.”
Chen Yan stared blankly at the token Mr. You had just set on the table. The pattern on the token was identical to the pattern on the Star Heaven Sect tokens he had seen on Heavenly Summit Mountain.
Somebody in this world actually dared to forge Star Heaven Sect tokens?
But when Chen Yan considered that the so-called Mr. You, a rogue cultivator before him, might very well be a Dao Union powerhouse, he quickly felt relieved.
Even if Star Heaven Sect discovered someone forging their tokens, it would probably be handled quickly and without much fuss.
“Want it?”
Mr. You pushed the blank Star Heaven Sect token on the table toward Chen Yan.
“No need. Thank you for the offer, Mr. You.”
Chen Yan declined.
He was not an Upper Three Realms powerhouse and dared not accept such a hot potato.
“Is it because you dislike that it has no inscription?”
Mr. You raised an eyebrow slightly.
“What would you like it to say? Vast Dome Gate, Chenhui Gate, Sword Chime Gate, or Moon Void Gate?”
“Really no need, Mr. You…”
“Oh?”
Mr. You lifted his hand and waved lightly over the table. After his robe sleeve swept the surface, four more tokens instantly appeared on the table in addition to the Star Heaven token.
Seeing the five tokens on the table, Chen Yan’s eyes widened—
Lingxiao Temple, Wind Ravine Valley, Mirage Palace, Kongshan Sect… besides Star Heaven Sect, the disciple tokens of the other four Great Sects on the Chenping Continent were all laid out on the tea stall’s small table.
“When I traveled across the Chenping Continent, I found that wearing a token of one of the Five Great Sects at my waist made things convenient everywhere, so I prepared a few. Which one do you want?”
“No need, Mr. You.”
“How about Mirage Palace’s? I’ll carve one for you as a token of Weaving Dreams Tower’s Chief Disciple.”
“Um…”
“Or a Kongshan Sect one? I’ll carve a Kongyuan Mountain Chief Disciple token—what was the name of that current Kongyuan Mountain chief disciple… hiss, no, I heard that unlucky fellow is already dead.”
“…”
“Or should I just make you one from Heavenly Summit Mountain?”
Chen Yan was left speechless.
After repeatedly refusing, Mr. You finally gave up trying to gift Chen Yan a token.
After this entire farce ended, Chen Yan found the so-called rogue cultivator in front of him increasingly strange.
He still believed there was a high chance Mr. You was a Dao Union cultivator, but including Li Haoran, there were only six Dao Union powerhouses on the entire Chenping Continent.
The sudden appearance of another wild Dao Union powerhouse seemed unlikely to Chen Yan.
One hour passed.
Mr. You simply sat with Chen Yan at the tea stall, as if waiting for something.
But nothing happened.
“Let’s go.”
Suddenly, Mr. You stood and said to Chen Yan.
“Mr. You, may I ask where you intend to take this junior?”
Chen Yan asked as he watched Mr. You stand.
“Just wandering around.”
Mr. You only shook his head when he heard it.
“Just wandering around. Honestly, I don’t even know where I’m going. What’s meant to come will come when it comes. In short… just wandering.”
It sounded like complete nonsense.
“I don’t quite understand…”
Chen Yan said.
“At your current realm, of course you can’t understand… although I don’t know how you were born with spiritual energy, it doesn’t matter…”
Mr. You said with a smile.
“Do you know? Everything in this world is the result of predetermined cause and effect. Fools who think they can change causality are merely trapped in the loop of fate without realizing it.”
Cause and effect.
When Chen Yan heard those two words from Mr. You’s mouth, he grew even more suspicious that the young man’s cultivation was likely above Dao Union.
No, perhaps there were other possibilities.
For example, an Ascender reborn.
