Chapter 156: Fu Ting and Shi Luo
Fu Ting’s face flushed a deep red. With Li Yun standing between them, she could not act out even if she wished to. She glared at Shi Luo once more before turning her attention to Li Yun.
“Brother Li, you are looking for companions for the mission, are you not?”
“Yes. I could not find a suitable team at the Mission Hall, so I thought the gathering place of the Inner Sect disciples might be different. That is how I came across your group,” Li Yun explained calmly.
Fu Ting nodded in understanding.
“I see. According to the rules of Martial Ascension Gate, newly joined disciples must complete missions regularly. Since you came with Brother Zhu, I assume you both intend to take on this mission. If that is the case, then our team welcomes you.”
Li Yun was just about to agree when the handsome young man suddenly stepped forward with a faint smile.
“Fu Ting, I think you may have misunderstood,” he said in a measured tone. “Perhaps your friend is not here to join our team. He might simply be visiting and will leave shortly.”
He turned his gaze toward Li Yun, his eyes sharp and probing.
“My friend, am I right?”
He placed deliberate emphasis on the final words, his voice carrying an unmistakable edge.
It was obvious that he harbored feelings for Fu Ting. Noticing the warmth in her attitude toward Li Yun, which clearly went beyond ordinary friendship, he had grown wary. There was no way he would willingly allow Li Yun to join their team, so he chose to issue a warning disguised as courtesy.
Li Yun cast him a brief, indifferent glance and did not even bother to respond directly. Instead, he turned back to Fu Ting with a relaxed smile.
“You are correct. I brought my friend here to join your team so that we can carry out the mission together.”
Seeing that Li Yun had ignored his implied warning, the handsome young man’s expression darkened immediately.
“My friend,” he said coldly, “the mission this time is extremely dangerous. I suggest you reconsider. If you follow us to the Black Wind Desert and encounter an accident, losing your life there would be most unfortunate.”
This time, there was nothing subtle about his meaning. The threat was laid bare.
When he heard the threat, Li Yun’s eyes turned cold and sharp.
Before he could speak, Fu Ting stepped forward, her expression filled with anger.
“Senior Brother Xiao, I am the captain of this team. Anyone who wishes to join us may do so as long as I approve. If you are unwilling to carry out the mission with Brother Li, then you may withdraw from the team right now.”
Her voice was firm and left no room for argument.
Rebuked so directly, Xiao Feng fell silent. However, the hostility in his gaze toward Li Yun deepened. A trace of killing intent stirred within him.
’So this brat dares to act so boldly. With Fu Ting present, I cannot touch him, but once she is gone, I will make him pay. Compete with me for a woman? He truly does not know the meaning of death.’
He suppressed his anger and continued to glare coldly, thinking that he would give Li Yun one final chance. If the boy was sensible, he would back off. If not, he would learn what it meant to regret too late.
Li Yun noticed the malice in Xiao Feng’s eyes and sneered inwardly, though his face remained calm.
“Fu Ting, since the team members are decided, we should depart as soon as possible. If we delay any longer, other disciples may eliminate the Blood Zombies first, and our journey will be for nothing.”
Fu Ting nodded.
She arranged a meeting point with Li Yun, then left with Shi Luo and Xu Ming to make their own preparations.
“Let us return and prepare as well,” Zhu Ximen said.
Li Yun agreed, and the two turned to leave.
However, just as Fu Ting and the others disappeared from sight, Xiao Feng stepped forward abruptly and blocked Li Yun’s path.
“Stop right there, brat.”
Li Yun’s brows furrowed slightly as he looked at him.
“Is there something you wish to say?”
Xiao Feng straightened his posture and looked down at Li Yun with open arrogance.
“Li Yun, now that Fu Ting is not here, there is no need for me to maintain appearances. Let me be clear. Fu Ting is the woman I have chosen. Whatever I set my sights on will eventually belong to me. No one else has the right to approach her. If you value your life, stay far away from her. If you ignore this warning, you will not be able to bear the consequences.”
His tone was cold and domineering, as though his claim over Fu Ting was already an established fact.
Li Yun lifted his eyes and glanced at him indifferently. He truly had no patience for such an overbearing fool.
His lips parted slightly as he replied in an even voice, “Could you move aside and stop wasting my time?”
For a brief moment, there was silence.
“Impudent!” Xiao Feng exploded with anger.
“A moment ago, I endured your insolence because Fu Ting was present. Do not mistake that for weakness. Now that she is gone, you still dare to speak to me like this? Do you truly not understand the meaning of death? I will ask you one final time. Are you going to leave, or must I make you?”
A sharp killing intent surfaced in his expression, undisguised and intense. Under its influence, his once handsome face twisted into something harsh and menacing.
As his words fell, a powerful aura burst from his body and surged toward Li Yun like a crashing tide. The pressure pressed forward with the force of the 8th level of the Xiantian Realm.
However, Li Yun stood unmoved.
If this were the oppressive aura of a Qi Sea Realm expert, it might have caused him to take it seriously. But Xiao Feng, merely at the 8th level of the Xiantian Realm, attempting to suppress him with raw aura alone, was nothing more than laughable.
