Chapter 157: On the Kill List!
“Hmph.”
Li Yun gave a faint snort. Without any obvious movement, he stirred the Sword Intent within his body. Then he stepped forward.
In that instant, his entire presence transformed. It was as though a peerless divine sword had been drawn from its sheath, its edge flashing with cold brilliance. An invisible sharpness radiated outward, cutting through the air itself.
Rip.
Xiao Feng’s surging aura shattered at once, torn apart as if it had struck an unbreakable blade.
At the same time, that wisp of Sword Intent struck Xiao Feng directly. A horrifying sensation overwhelmed him, as though something invisible had slashed across his soul. His face drained of color. His eyes widened in terror. He coughed violently and spat out a mouthful of fresh blood.
“You… you…” Xiao Feng stared at Li Yun, shock written all over his face, yet he could not complete a single sentence.
Li Yun looked at him calmly.
“You warned me just now. Out of courtesy, I will offer you a warning as well. Do not provoke me again. I am not someone you can afford to offend. If you insist on testing your luck, I will not hesitate to kill you.”
His voice was steady, yet the killing intent hidden within it was icy and real.
After speaking, Li Yun did not spare Xiao Feng another glance. He turned and left with Zhu Ximen.
Though the words were simple, the chill they carried made Xiao Feng tremble. Deep down, he knew the warning was not empty. If he truly pushed further, Li Yun would indeed strike without hesitation.
“Damn it,” Xiao Feng muttered under his breath.
He could only glare at Li Yun’s retreating back with resentment. His fists clenched tightly inside his sleeves, Yuan Qi surging within him, yet he did not dare take a single step forward.
Zhu Ximen glanced back briefly and scoffed. “From the way he acted, I thought he was someone impressive. In the end, he is nothing more than a loud mouth. If he had dared to attack when you turned around, I might have respected him a little. Instead, he did nothing.”
Li Yun smiled faintly. “It is better that he did not act. It saved me the trouble. Moreover, if we weren’t in the sect, he would be dead right now.”
[Quest Level: C]
– Objective: [Kill Xiao Feng.]
– Reward: [100 mid grade spirit stones, 3000 EXP.]
Xiao Feng was fortunate that this confrontation had taken place within the sect. If they had been outside, Li Yun would not have hesitated to end his life for the sake of a few thousand EXP.
Zhu Ximen looked at Li Yun with a complicated expression.
“Li Yun, after only three months, how much have you improved? You are becoming more and more difficult to read, and frankly, more terrifying.”
Three months earlier, Li Yun’s strength had barely allowed him to contend with a Martial Artist at the 7th level of the Xiantian Realm. Yet now, with nothing more than the pressure of his aura, he had forced Xiao Feng, a cultivator at the 8th level of the Xiantian Realm, to suffer internal injury and spit blood. The speed of this growth was astonishing.
Anyone who truly believed Li Yun possessed only one-star Aptitude would have to be blind.
Zhu Ximen kept that thought to himself.
The two of them departed soon after.
Only once Li Yun’s figure disappeared did Xiao Feng gradually suppress the lingering fear in his heart. His face twisted with resentment.
“That arrogant brat dares to threaten me. Just wait. I will seek out my elder brother and borrow that item. When the time comes, killing you will be no more difficult than slaughtering a dog.”
With that bitter vow, he turned and left as well.
…
About the time it takes to burn an incense stick later, Li Yun completed his preparations. He first met up with Zhu Ximen, and together they headed toward the agreed location where Fu Ting and the others were waiting.
When they arrived, Fu Ting, Shi Luo, Xu Ming, and Xiao Feng were already there.
Under normal circumstances, Xiao Feng would have mocked Li Yun for arriving even slightly late. However, after suffering earlier humiliation, he remained silent. He merely cast Li Yun a cold glance before looking away.
On the surface, it seemed as though he had been cowed.
Yet there was a saying.
The most dangerous hound is often the one that does not bark.
To Li Yun, however, Xiao Feng was already a dead man the moment the system had issued the mission to kill him.
“Alright, let us depart.”
Fu Ting displayed the composure of someone accustomed to leading missions. Her tone was clear and decisive.
As soon as she spoke, Shi Luo and Xu Ming each took out a small token. The token was known as a Beast Taming Token, an item used to command Vicious Beasts for travel or battle.
They infused the tokens with Qi. A faint glow shimmered across their surfaces, releasing subtle fluctuations that spread outward into the open air.
A moment later, a deep rumbling echoed from the distant forest. The heavy rhythm of iron hooves shook the ground. Soon, six massive black figures charged out from between the trees, moving with surprising swiftness.
They were Moon-Gazing Rhinos, large Vicious Beasts shaped like armored rhinoceroses. Their speed was not exceptional, but their endurance was remarkable, making them ideal for long-distance travel.
Li Yun and the others each mounted one. Once everyone was seated, the six Moon-Gazing Rhinos let out low, resonant roars. Their thick hooves pounded against the earth, sending dust swirling into the air as they surged forward.
Their destination was the Black Wind Desert.
…
The journey stretched on for miles. The scenery shifted from lush forest to barren plains. With little to occupy them, conversation gradually arose.
“Normally, the sect assigns missions to eliminate villains within its territory as routine tasks,” Xu Ming said, initiating the discussion. “Do you know why this particular operation was designated as a collective mission?”
Xu Ming was the fourth member of Fu Ting’s group and also the friend of Shi Luo and Fu Ting.
Li Yun and Zhu Ximen exchanged a glance and shook their heads.
“We have only recently joined the Martial Ascension Gate. We would not know such details,” Li Yun replied honestly.
Fu Ting smiled faintly.
“We did manage to gather some information.”
