Chapter 162: Deathly Arrows!
“Of course.”
Li Yun answered with a calm smile. Even without Zhu Ximen’s assistance, his current combat strength was enough to contend with the Blood Zombie Young Master. If the two of them fought together, then below the Qi Sea Realm, there were very few who could stand against them.
Seeing the confidence in Li Yun’s expression, Fu Ting hesitated for only a brief moment before nodding. For reasons she could not fully explain, she chose to believe him. Killing intent surfaced in her eyes once more.
Previously, she had held back because she feared the Young Master’s strength, but now that fear had diminished. If there was a chance to eliminate the mastermind behind this slaughter, she did not wish to miss it.
“Very well. We will head to the Blood Demon Cave and put an end to him.”
With the decision made, they first collected the blood cores from the fallen Blood Zombies. After that, following the directions provided by the slain leader, they set off toward the Blood Demon Cave.
After roughly half an hour of travel across the barren sands, they finally arrived at their destination.
Amid the desolate expanse, a massive cavern opened abruptly in the earth. The entrance yawned wide and deep, its interior swallowed by darkness. No end could be seen within. From inside the cave, fierce winds surged outward, carrying with them a thick and nauseating stench of blood.
The sight and atmosphere made it feel less like an ordinary cave and more like a gateway to the underworld.
“Stay alert,” Li Yun said in a low voice.
Although he was confident in facing the Blood Zombie Young Master in a direct confrontation, this was enemy territory. The exact situation inside the cave remained unknown, and there was always the possibility of hidden dangers or ambushes. Caution was essential.
“We understand,” the others replied.
They were not inexperienced disciples. Each of them immediately heightened their vigilance. With Li Yun taking the lead, the group advanced carefully into the dark depths of the Blood Demon Cave.
The interior of the Blood Demon Cave twisted and turned endlessly, forming a maze of narrow passages that seemed to lead in every direction. The deeper they went, the darker and more oppressive the atmosphere became.
Li Yun expanded his perception to its limits. The thick scent of blood lingered throughout the tunnels, and by carefully sensing where it grew stronger, he was able to determine the correct direction. With steady steps, he guided the group deeper into the winding cave.
Suddenly, when they reached the central region of the cavern, a shrill cry echoed through the darkness. The sound was sharp and eerie, like the wail of a ghost reverberating through the tunnels.
“Enemy attack!”
In the next instant, countless flashes of cold light burst out from the shadows and surged toward Li Yun and the others.
A closer look revealed that the glints were arrows. An overwhelming volley of sharp projectiles cut through the air with terrifying speed. Their arrowheads were stained dark green, clearly coated with a powerful poison. Even more dangerous was the material used to forge them. The arrowheads were crafted from Breaking Gold Steel, a rare material known for its ability to pierce through a martial artist’s protective qi with destructive force.
A barrage of arrows like this was powerful enough to kill a cultivator at the fifth level of the Xiantian Realm if they were caught unprepared.
The Blood Demon Cave had clearly been fortified with deadly traps. Breaking into this place was far from simple.
“Be careful!”
Although Fu Ting and the others had been vigilant from the start, their expressions still changed when they saw the incoming storm of arrows.
Li Yun, however, remained calm. He deliberately refrained from using his qi directly. Because the arrows were made of Breaking Gold Steel, they possessed a certain suppressive effect against protective qi. Although his Chaos qi was far stronger than ordinary qi and would likely resist such interference, he did not wish to take unnecessary risks while standing deep inside enemy territory.
“Crimson Lotus Flame Art,” Li Yun murmured as he activated the mid grade Profound Rank technique.
In an instant, blazing red flames gathered around the group and formed the shape of a massive lotus. The fiery lotus unfolded its glowing petals and surrounded them like a protective barrier. The flames flickered brilliantly, illuminating the dark cave with a crimson glow.
The incoming arrows slammed into the flaming lotus and pierced into its fiery layers. However, as soon as they entered the burning petals, their momentum slowed rapidly until they came to a complete halt, suspended within the blazing barrier.
The strange stalemate lasted for several seconds.
“How about face your own attacks?” Li Yun then smiled. The lotus suddenly trembled, and the flames surged outward with explosive force. The trapped arrows were expelled all at once and shot back along the same paths they had come from.
The sound of piercing flesh echoed through the cavern.
Shrill screams followed immediately afterward as the hidden attackers were struck by their own weapons. One after another, cries of pain rang out through the tunnels.
Moments later, the Blood Demon Cave fell silent once again.
“Keep moving,” Li Yun said firmly.
Now that their presence had already been exposed, there was no reason to advance cautiously. Li Yun took the lead while Zhu Ximen stayed at the rear to guard against any surprise attacks. The group increased their speed and rushed deeper into the Blood Demon Cave.
Before long, they arrived at the very end of the cavern.
The space before them opened into a vast chamber that was completely engulfed in darkness. The blackness was so dense that one could hardly see even their own hand in front of their face.
Suddenly, the stillness was broken.
A series of dull sounds echoed through the hall as faint flames began to ignite one after another along the surrounding walls. The flames burned with a dim blue color. Their light was weak and cold, and instead of bringing warmth or comfort, the eerie glow filled the place with a sinister and unsettling atmosphere.
Even so, the flames illuminated the chamber enough to reveal what lay within.
