Chapter 184: Alchemy Pavilion!
The Alchemy Pavilion of the Martial Ascension Gate was exactly what its name suggested. It was a place entirely devoted to alchemy. Within the sect there were many disciples who possessed talent in refining pills, and those disciples could join the Alchemy Pavilion to serve the sect through their alchemical abilities.
For those who became part of the Pavilion, the benefits were significant. Disciples who contributed by refining pills would receive large amounts of contribution points as well as various cultivation resources. Because of this, many disciples with talent in alchemy chose to join the Pavilion in order to strengthen their position within the sect.
The Alchemy Pavilion was also one of the most important places in the Martial Ascension Gate for another reason. Disciples from all four peaks often came here to exchange their contribution points for rare and valuable pills that could assist them in advancing their cultivation. As a result, the Pavilion remained one of the busiest and most influential locations within the sect.
However Li Yun was not heading there for either of those reasons.
Although he possessed a remarkable talent in alchemy, his purpose for coming to the Alchemy Pavilion was something entirely different.
During the months he had spent within the Martial Ascension Gate, Li Yun had gradually begun to understand how the true power structure of the sect worked.
On the surface the sect appeared to be ruled by the four great peaks. These peaks were Human Origin Peak, Profound Mystery Peak, Earth Pillar Peak, and Heaven Mandate Peak. At first Li Yun had believed that Earth Pillar Peak held the greatest influence within the sect.
However after living in the sect for three months and carefully studying the sect’s internal rules, Li Yun had come to understand the truth.
Beyond the authority of the four peaks stood another force.
That force was the Alchemy Pavilion.
The influence and power held by the Pavilion within the Martial Ascension Gate actually surpassed the combined authority of the four peaks. Its importance to the sect made it a position that even the peak masters treated with great respect.
This was precisely the reason Li Yun had come here.
His plan was very simple. He intended to display his alchemical talent and impress the Pavilion Head of the Alchemy Pavilion. If he could successfully join the Pavilion, he would gain a backing far greater than anything Heaven Mandate Peak alone could provide.
With the backing of the Alchemy Pavilion, Li Yun believed that even someone like Xiao Fanyun would not dare to act recklessly against him or his friends.
With that thought in mind, Li Yun arrived before the grand building of the Alchemy Pavilion. Without wasting any time, he stepped inside.
The interior of the Pavilion was spacious and filled with the faint scent of medicinal herbs. Not long after he entered, a deacon of the Alchemy Pavilion approached him.
“What can I do for you?” the deacon asked politely.
“I would like to participate in the One Star Alchemy Assessment,” Li Yun replied calmly.
The deacon raised his brows slightly when he heard this request, but he did not say anything further. Instead, he gestured for Li Yun to follow him.
“This way.”
The deacon led him through several corridors inside the Pavilion. After walking for a few minutes, they arrived before a large door.
“Go inside,” the deacon said while pointing toward the entrance. “There are other disciples there who will also be taking the One Star Alchemy Assessment.”
Li Yun nodded and pushed the door open before stepping inside.
The room was a spacious hall filled with rows of seats. A small group of disciples were already sitting quietly while waiting for the assessment to begin.
’They should be the other disciples who want to become One Star Alchemists,’ Li Yun thought to himself.
Without making any noise, he walked toward an empty seat and sat down calmly.
However, the moment he sat down, he immediately noticed something unusual.
Every single disciple in the hall was looking at him with strange expressions.
Li Yun could only shake his head inwardly when he realized the reason for their reaction.
Among everyone present in the room, he was clearly the youngest by a large margin.
Li Yun was only seventeen years old, while most of the other disciples were in their twenties. Some even appeared to be in their thirties or older.
Although their cultivation had preserved their youthful appearances, it was still easy to tell that they were far older than him.
Li Yun waited patiently in the hall for several hours before his turn was finally called.
He stood up and walked toward the door located on the opposite side of the hall. After passing through it, he entered a large platform area that appeared to be specially prepared for the alchemy assessment.
The platform stood at the center of the chamber. Surrounding it were several seats arranged in a circular formation. Seated in those positions were many elderly men with long beards and dignified expressions. Their calm yet authoritative presence made it clear that they were experienced alchemists of the Alchemy Pavilion.
As Li Yun looked around the area, something quickly caught his attention.
Among the many elderly men seated around the platform, there was a young woman standing nearby who appeared to be roughly his age. She was the only young person present among the group of elders, which made her presence particularly noticeable.
Li Yun observed her carefully. The young woman stood beside one of the elders whose aura felt unusually heavy and solemn. There was also a faint sense of danger surrounding that old man, as though his status among the others was far from ordinary.
Just then, one of the elders stepped forward and approached Li Yun.
“I am Sun Fuxi, an elder of the Alchemy Pavilion,” the old man said with a gentle smile. “I will be overseeing your alchemy assessment today.”
After introducing himself, Sun Fuxi continued.
“What type of pill would you like to refine for this test?”
“Body Tempering Pills,” Li Yun replied calmly.
Body Tempering Pills were among the simplest first tier pills that could be refined in the alchemy world. Because of their relatively low difficulty, many disciples who wished to obtain the title of One Star Alchemist chose to refine this pill during the assessment.
At the One Star level, participants were allowed to select the type of pill they wanted to refine. However, things were very different for higher level alchemists.
For example, those attempting to obtain the rank of three or four star alchemists were not given the freedom to choose. Instead they had to demonstrate their skill by refining whichever basic pills were assigned to them during the assessment. Only by succeeding in those tests could they pass the examination.
