Chapter 14
A week passed. I had failed to escape. That meant I did nothing for a week and only ate.
Pihne, who was overcome by my attempt at cuteness, tried to get me out of the room but failed every time because of the giant guarding the outside. It was no use to convince the other maids either.
The giant didn’t leave the front door even once, and later even put a large sword next to it so I would avoid bothering the maids. Seeing the sword, the maids trembled and gave up helping me escape, and Kuhn would laugh each time.
Even after my ban was lifted, the giant stayed by my side.
Dante introduced him to me. “He’s the guy who will escort you from now on.”
“I am Aaron Thor Ben.” A blunt and low voice. He bent his knees and bowed his head to greet me, and he looked as big as ever. The armor made a rattling noise whenever he moved.
“It’s the first time I’ve had an escort…?” I looked at Dante and the escort alternately.
Dante chuckled. “This guy will follow you like a shadow. He will be your hands and feet when you need them.”
“I can do it all by myself.”
‘You don’t have to.’
“It will be uncomfortable at first, but you will get used to it.”
Ugh, but this meant my movements would be restricted
Seeing that I had not once escaped, it was doubtful that I ever could. My dad was pretty stubborn.
I met the escort’s soft brown eyes. “Oh, hello.”
“Please call me Aaron.”
“Hmm, Aaron, please take care of me.”
He grinned. “…Yes. From now on, I will sacrifice my life to protect you.” Aaron reached out to me as if to shake hands. His hands were as big as the Pacific Ocean to shake hands. He’s got big hands, so he’s carrying a big sword like that, right?
Instead of shaking hands, I put my hand on Aaron’s. It looked just like a piece of a puzzle placed on a large puzzle board, so it made me laugh a little. Come to think of it, had I ever seen my father’s hand?
“Hihi, it’s huge.”
‘Oh? I think Aaron’s ears turned red. I’m mistaken, right? I’ll have a chat with him, so I can go out and find Hilla. I’m going to find him and say thank you.’
“Where are you planning to go?”
I had to raise my head even when he was crouching with one knee bent…
“To meet Hilla.”
“Are you referring to the green-haired doctor? I saw him carrying a bag for a visit this morning.”
“Really? Where?”
“It was on the first floor.”
I lightly struck Aaron’s armor with the palm of my hand. “Then let’s go.”

“From today onwards, the young lady has left the room and roamed freely. Exactly what you said! Exactly a week.”
“…”
“Uhm, there have been changes but her pronunciation is back to normal. When I asked Hilla, he said that she would be alright after one week of taking it. I think Miss is really lucky.” Dante recited what he had carefully jotted down.
Callen had been working in the mansion for a long time. After the child arrived, Dante had been persistently nagging his master that he still had a lot of work to do even when he was at home.
“In the meantime, the Miss has asked about your meal three times today.”
“…” The hand that was flipping through papers paused for a moment, but Dante didn’t notice.
“I told her that you have already eaten, but I didn’t like the way the young lady turned her back.”
“…”
Dante glanced at Callen, trying to figure out if he could be more tenacious. “So today, I want to ask you, how would you like to have dinner with the young lady?”
Callen spoke after a while, “I think it would be convenient to eat separately.”
Dante smiled awkwardly at his expected answer. “But I already told the lady that I think you will be having dinner together with her today…” He was able to make eye contact with Callen for the first time since entering the office. Cold sweat was dripping down his back, but if he just passed this hurdle, his old age would be perfectly guaranteed in the future.
Enduring, he kept a professional smile on his face.

“Sir Hilla is not in the mansion now.”
“Why?” I couldn’t hide my disappointment at Pihne’s words. Didn’t he say that he would give me more medicine?
“I took the bag of medicine from him in the morning since he had work to do. I would have told you in advance if I had known you would look for him. He said it would take a few days. What should we do?”
“How many days has it been? Ummm… This can’t go on.”
“Why are you looking for Sir Hilla? Do you have any stomach discomfort from the medicine?” Pihne’s eyes quickly turned worried.
I shook my head. “Ah, no. Um, I just want to say thank you,” I lied.
It seemed like it worked, since Pihne beamed. “Our Miss is really diligent and kind. I will let you know as soon as Sir Hilla returns.”
“Thank you. But what about Dad…?”
I needed to check if he was okay today.
She smiled confidently this time. “His Excellency will be going out today! He was working in his office. Sir Dante said that he will also be joining you for dinner as well.”
“Really?”
Pihne nodded vigorously.
‘Oh, did the sun rise in the west?’
Although it was unfortunate that Hilla had some work to do, that one is a piece of good news. I’d have dinner with Dad and practice controlling my mana with Kuhn while Hilla was away.
“Wow, I should eat a lot at dinner then. Then I’ll go and play with Kuhn,” I said subconsciously, clapping a hand over my mouth when I realized my mistake.
“Kuhn?”
“Huh?”
There was silence for a very brief moment. Suddenly, Pihne clapped her hands and smiled. “Ah, are you talking about the cat that visits you every time?”
“Right! That cat!”
“I’m glad you made a friend. Still, don’t get too close with lest it scratch you. Even kittens have sharp claws. Well be in trouble if your face gets hurt.”
“Hmm, okay. I’ll be careful.”
‘He’s not a cat.’
“Then, if you are playing outside, I will prepare a snack. Have fun!”
I quickly headed outside, thinking that Pihne would never find out about Kuhn shifting into a crow.
“Aaron, I’ll be there.”
“Yes, I will not disturb you.”
As soon as I left, Kuhn flew to me with something in his mouth. I quickly ran under the tree. After a while, he came down after turning into a cat. He still had a lot of straw in his mouth.
“What, are you asking me to eat?”
[Eat it.]
Spit~
Embarrassed, I picked up the grass with the tip of my finger. “You want me to eat this?”
[It is precious. Eat it.]
“I have to know what I’ll be eating.”
[I am the guardian.]
‘Does that even matter?’
Kuhn urged me to try it quickly, but I couldn’t shake my anxiety after just recently causing my tongue to stiffen.
“I haven’t eaten anything else yet.”
[Better on an empty stomach. Quickly.]
He kept touching the grass with his front paws. I couldn’t resist Kuhn’s recommendation so I grimaced as I held the grass in my hands.
“…Do I really have to eat all of it?”
[Hmm. Eat everything.]
‘But still, he’s the guardian of the witches so it would be necessary to kill me, right…?’
I stared at Kuhn and chewed on the grass he brought near to my mouth.
“Urgh”
I couldn’t chew more than three times. It tasted so bitter and fishy that I spit it out.
‘Did my tongue harden again?’
Kuhn took a step back and raised his front paw.
[Why did you spit it out? Such a waste.]
“It’s too bitter. And the taste is so…”
[Is it just too bitter? Eat some more though. It increases magic power, so it might be effective in unlocking abilities.]
“Anyway, this is too much.”
I was about to say something to Kuhn, who was worried as he rubbed his chin with his front paw.
“Oh my gosh, my lady! Why did you eat weeds?!”
“Ahhh, I was caught…”
I had to spit out the remaining grass and rinse my mouth with water several times. I explained that it was a medicinal herb, but Pihne did not seem to believe it. Next to me, Kuhn was saying that it was a waste of his time.
I was still frowning because of the bitter taste left in my mouth.
“Miss, I’ll say it again, you shouldn’t put anything unidentified in your mouth. No matter how pretty the flowers are, don’t do it.”
“I see. I won’t eat it anymore.”
“I will tell Dante so that Sir Hilla can come as soon as possible. You might not know this but… Miss?”
‘Shiny.’.
I was listening to Pihne’s nagging when I saw something sparkle in the distant bushes behind her. It was a very dazzling gold – a spark of light that caught the eye. But as Pihne called my attention, the golden light disappeared without a trace.
“Huh?”
