Chapter 34 – Part 1
Soon, the gray-haired man turned and left the room as if he had never seen anything.
“Phew!”
It was impossible for me to hold my breath for too long with my small lungs. I let out the breath I was holding back as soon as the door closed. At the same time, my darkening vision brightened as if a curtain had been removed. Arumia had also been holding back his breath; we both took consecutive breaths repeatedly.
“Huu~ What is that, scary.”
“…I-I’m scared too,” Arumia said after me.
“What happened?”
“I do not know. It seemed like His Holiness couldn’t see us. How did that happen?” Arumia seemed as puzzled as I was.
’How on earth…?’
Arumia jumped up and made me stand at that moment. Contrary to his fragile-looking body, I was momentarily startled by the strong force.
“You have to get out of here. It’s dangerous here… so I will call someone for you, then everything will be alright,” he said sternly.
“Where is this place? Is that person your parent?”
“No.” Arumia shook his head vigorously and grabbed my hand, trying to make me leave quickly.
“Oh, wait for a second…” I muttered as I was helplessly dragged by Arumia. My stomach was churning, just like when I first came here. “Arumia, I –”
As soon as I blinked and Arumia’s back became blurry, I felt my body fall out of nowhere.
“Ahh!”
I fell on my butt, and it hurt so much that tears welled up. My vision suddenly brightened, and I smelled the thick smell of earth.
“What is this?”
’The forest?’
“I-it’s the forest.”
I came back here, and…
[Mariette.] Kuhn was looking at me with a scary villain-like expression in front of me.
“Kuhn!”
[…]
“Huh? How did I get back? Kuhn, was it you who took me back?”
[Yes. Where on earth did you go? Why are you not talking?]
I hugged Kuhn, relieved. I could hear him grunting, but it still felt good. “Kuhn, I almost died because I was scared. I was so surprised when I was suddenly in a strange place with Arumia.”
Kuhn pushed me away with his front paws. [You went to a strange place?]
I nodded. “Yes, I was putting ointment on Arumia’s wrist, but I was suddenly in his place. But over that place—” I paused at a terrifying realization.
He clearly said ‘His Holiness’. There was only one person who can be called ‘His Holiness’ in Ferze.
Pope Labrick.
’Why was that guy there? Is Arumia related to the Pope?’
[What’s there?]
I shook off the thoughts that surfaced in my mind and explained to Kuhn all the conversations I had with Hilla. Hearing about it, Kuhn’s eyes widened.
“I was really surprised when I learned that I couldn’t come home. I don’t know why that man didn’t see me, but I was glad he didn’t.”
[That’s because you used your power.]
“Ah, I see. My power… what?” I blinked.
’Just now, what did he say?’
[I said you used your witch’s power.]
“But I did nothing. What power?”
[How do you think I brought you back to this forest?]
“Because you’re my guardian?”
[That day you called me, I was connected to you. That’s why whenever you draw out your witch’s power, that wave is transmitted to me as well. I also used your power to bring you back here.]
“It was my power that brought me back here?” I asked doubtfully.
[Yes. Your power has blossomed so that I can borrow it. I’m sorry I used it arbitrarily, but you suddenly disappeared so I thought something bad happened to you.]
“No. That’s fine, but I don’t know what kind of power blossomed in me.”
[Phew, alright. Then I will show you your power.]
“Really?”
[It was surprising that you awakened yourself, but it seems that you do not know the true nature of your power, so I will help you with that. Take my hand.]
I looked down at Kuhn, who was sticking out his front paw.
’You don’t have a hand. ‘
But Kuhn’s expression was so serious that I didn’t have a choice. Kuhn’s pupils dilated at that moment, and I had the illusion that something like a wind was blowing out of my body.
Blink, blink.
My vision darkened that earlier after a while, but nothing changed other than my darkened vision.
