Back at the packhouse, I’m ready to have some time tomyself, but Flint drags me along to Alpha Connell’s office. Knocking andentering without waiting to be asked.

Alpha Connell smiles at Flint and holds his hand out toshake. After they complete the usual hello, how are you and political bull, Iwatch as Flint looks at the information that Alpha Connell has organized so farfor the mating ball.

“Do you have females helping to arrange things?” Flint asks.

“Oh yes, it’s not my thing to do frills, bows, and all theother things I’m told we’ll need to make the ballroom come to life. We’ve notused that room in years, and I have five males cleaning it from top to bottom,and Dahlia is not happy that I’ve given her a menu of what I want to be on handfor the evening.”

Now Dahlia is a miserable female who I know has made thekitchen females miserable. I also know she treated Tatiana Winterstorm badly.At the time, there was nothing I could do about it, but since she left, I’vemade it my business since I got back from the council to watch and step in ifDahlia starts her old tricks.

“Do you have invitations sent out?” Flint asks and we alllook up when the door opens and the Beta walks into the Alpha’s office. I givehim a tip of the head showing respect, but don’t keep my attention on him. Myeyes are studying the mating ball information in front of me.

“Yes, we’ve sent invitations to all three packs in our area.Twenty unmated shifters from each pack are invited. It is male or female. Itdoesn’t matter to me as long as they are looking for their fated mate orchoosing a mate.”

“Okay, so two months to get this organized and held. I hopeyou’ll have success with it, and the shifter council would not have agreed tohave breeders again Alpha Connell, so this is a better step forward for you andyour pack.” Flint straightens from where he’s been studying the information,then surprises him with announcing. “Oh, Merry is leaving the pack to sit onthe shifter council, as a member, of course. She’ll let me know what she wantsto do about her house, but I don’t think she’ll be back somehow.”

“Merry wants to leave the pack? Why wasn’t I asked aboutthis first?” Alpha Connell growls.

“Well, the shifter council doesn’t need your permission inthis case. If it was to just leave the pack, then yes, the member would needyour permission, but Merry isn’t leaving the pack, as in the pack itself,she’ll remain a Blackshadow Pack member. She’ll just not live with the packanymore is what I meant.” Flint explains.

Alpha Connell throws himself down in his chair, lookingshocked, and I understand when he murmurs. “Merry is the last of my mother’sfriends, and for her to leave the pack is like losing the last link.”

“I’m sorry Alpha Connell, I didn’t realize. But she’s goingto have a voice on the council. She’ll always have the pack’s interest atheart. Merry is a great pack member and she’ll be good for the council. You canbe proud you will have a member who is representing your pack on the council.”

Nodding, I can see Alpha Connell come to terms with Merryleaving, and he takes a deep breath to continue with the business at hand.Thankfully, I’m allowed to leave the meeting a few minutes later when I reportthat it’s time for me to check the border alongside the Spirit Walker Pack.

Chapter35

TATIANA

The weeks have passed and the time with the Eclipse Pack hasbeen delayed because of an issue they have had with Rogues from no-man’s-land.I was thankful at the time as I’d lost some trust with the Blood Pearl Packproblem I had had.

Brod’s birthday is tomorrow, and I can feel his wolf tryingto come through already. Ebony keeps giving me her wolf laugh as she saidBrod’s wolf is as mischievous as he is. Now that could lead to trouble, asEbony is not averse to getting into something she shouldn’t.

Arrow is his name. Ebony pops into my mind, and Ican’t help but smile, as that is a lovely name for Brod’s wolf.

‘I can’t wait to meet him.’ I reply, and as I’d promised tobe with Brod when he had his first shift and became his wolf, I rush around mybedroom collecting the few things I want to take with me to Brod’s house.

Heavy footsteps storming up the stairs have me quicklyturning towards the door, and when it flies open and Brod runs in throwinghimself down on my bed with the biggest smile on his face I’ve ever seen, Istand with my mouth hanging down. Snapping my mouth closed before asking. “Whatare you doing here? I’m getting ready to come to your house.”

“Oh, it’s great. I’m staying here with you. Poppa Lykos saidit would be better if I had my shift in the paddock and then we could run inthe forest.” Propping his arm on the bed and resting his chin on the palm ofhis hand.

“Oh. Okay,” I reply, then empty the backpack and put thingsaway.

“Do you want to train in the paddock today while we wait formy birthday to come around?”

“Yes, why not? We may as well stay busy. Oh, I know whatyour wolf’s called.” I tease, then turn and run down the stairs with Brod rightbehind me.

“What is it? Come on Tati, what is it? Tell me.”

Laughing as I run past Momma Akela in the kitchen and outthe back door, quickly heading into the paddock, but come to a grinding stopwhen Drake is standing with his arms folded talking to Poppa Lykos.

Drake looks over at me, then at Brod. He’s giving us both apiercing look and I’m not sure if there is something behind the look or not.Brod shoulders me while grinning, showing no sign of worrying about Drake beinghere.

“Come here, you two.” Poppa Lykos says, and we walk over tothem both and I’m hoping we are not in trouble for something.

Drake’s lip twitches, and I’m sure he’s trying not to laughat us both. But when I squint my eyes, that twitch stops, and his normallyblank face is back again. “You two will do extra training from the day aftertomorrow. Once you have your wolf, Brod, you’ll be doing more training and youcan do it with Tati, since you are besties.”

Brod slaps me between my shoulder blades, taking me bysurprise, and I stagger forward a couple of steps before turning and giving hima shocked look.
