….oo….
The Void Empire felt a subtle tremble… the kind of deep vibration that made the air itself shiver… a little bit of shaking, a faint quiver in the bones, and then a rolling wave of shuddering that carried through the ground.
“Hmm… M-Mommy, what’s that sound?” Lia asked in a half-sleepy, dazed state, her hands rubbing at her tired eyes as she looked toward her mother, who stood staring at the window with a strange blankness, her gaze locked far into the distance.
Mary turned slowly, her lips curving into a soft smile that tried to comfort… even though it was hidden.
She walked back to the bed, brushed a strand of hair from her daughter’s cheek and whispered warmly, “Nothing, dear… just some pathetic animals tearing each other apart out there. You know, the usual Blooddawn chaos.”
Lia sleepishly nodded, her head tilting with fatigue. “I see….” Her hand lifted toward her mother, and Mary immediately leaned forward, pulling her into her embrace. Lia pressed against her mother’s bosom, sighing gently as her eyes shut and she drifted into deeper sleep, breathing softly and securely.
Mary’s smile lingered as she gently stroked her daughter’s head, patting her with a mother’s tenderness. A faint hum escaped her lips, soothing and low.
Snap!
Her head snapped, twisting instantly at a sharp 180, her expression shifted cold.
Her eyes glowed, burning with a supernatural radiance as her vision pierced straight through the glass of the window… gazing far beyond, past the hills and cities… to the distant edge of the Empire.
The Grenthollow… was being lifted!!!
The enormous green, stony mountain groaned as its foundations cracked. The earth split, and the entire colossal body trembled violently. Rocks shattered loose, tumbling like rain, as the mountain tilted sideways and then, impossibly, began to rise from the ground itself.
The soul wardens who had been stationed nearby trembled in horror. Their knees weakened, and several nearly fell backwards in sheer disbelief.
The soldiers who guarded the perimeter, clad in steel and oath, were utterly taken aback. Their weapons slipped in their hands, their armour rattled, and none of them dared move even an inch, their bodies frozen by terror.
Beneath the humongous green, stony mountain…
Two piercing, ice-blue eyes glowed with a deadly light.
Veins bulged and writhed across hands and legs, twitching like serpents under the skin, as Aether stood there, his body straining… lifting the whole mountain in the grip of his hands.
“ARRHHH!!!”
The roar tore out of his throat, wild and raw, as if his soul itself was screaming.
The weight—no, it was not the weight of one single mountain. It was the weight of thousands upon thousands, compressed into one impossible burden.
His nose trickled with blood, the crimson line crawling down his lips, yet he didn’t stop. His muscles quivered, his veins swelled and twitched, but his arms still pressed upward. Slowly… painfully slowly… he raised the mountain higher, and with it, the ground itself trembled as if the Empire would split.
[WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING!! THIS WILL SHATTER THE NATURAL ORDER!! THE LAWS THEMSELVES WILL TURN AGAINST YOU… THEY WILL GET ANGRY AT YOU AGAIN!!]
The voice of his log thundered in his mind, a shriek of warning and fear.
Aether spat blood, lips torn and trembling, veins bulging as if ready to burst. His voice came out ragged, torn between agony and fury,
“Do you… think… I carrreeee!!!!”
His words ripped from his throat, a madness that even the heavens could not silence.
CRACK!
His foot grounded into the earth with crushing force, cracks spreading out like spiderwebs across the entire ground.
The soulwardens rushed to stop him, but before they could even reach him, his legs flared violently with purple flames. The fire burst outward in a furious surge, burning everything that dared come close to him… like a rocket thruster spewing destruction, the flames pushed everything back as the mountain itself… slowly began to lift from the ground.
PUUUUUUFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!
The entire area was reduced to smouldering ash, burned to a crisp under the torrent of flames. Soldiers screamed in terror and scattered, fleeing in every direction as the sea of purple fire flowed like a tsunami, sweeping toward them with unstoppable hunger.
As the mountain continued to lift… the black, sticky substance beneath it began peeling away.
It clung, stretched, and tore, like sinews being ripped apart—its connection slowly severed. And then, finally…
The green mountain tore free and rose into the blood-red sky!!
All across the empire, people who had been fighting, screaming, robbing, or committing countless sins beneath the crimson heavens suddenly stopped in their tracks. Their wicked deeds were forgotten as every gaze turned upward in shock.
The entire green mountain hovered in the sky, an impossible sight burning itself into their minds.
“Grace!”
“OH LORD GRACE!”
Their expressions twisted, horror melting into awe. Hands trembled, knees bent, and one after another they fell to the ground. They bowed their heads so low their foreheads nearly kissed the dirt.
The green mountain still shone with a faint unnatural radiance, even after being torn from its foundation. The whole colossal body floated, visible to every eye. And then, in the blink of an instant, it vanished.
Panic spread like wildfire. Gasps and screams echoed, people flinching in horror—only for the mountain to reappear seconds later, suspended in the very same spot.
Confusion spread just as fast. No one understood what was happening, why the mountain had disappeared, or… why it had returned.
Meanwhile, Aether hovered at the centre of it all, his arms trembling as he held the impossible weight of the entire mountain.
!~Ding~!
[⚠️Warning: Due to the Item being soul-bound, Umbra Sanctum cannot hold the Item!]
He had tried to force the massive object into his inventory, but the system rejected it violently. His face twisted in frustration, veins throbbing in his temples.
Still, he tried again… this time counting, calculating the exact moment between storage and rejection. His breath hissed between his teeth.
“1…”
“2…”
!~Ding~!
[⚠️Warning: Due to the Item being soul-bound, Umbra Sanctum cannot hold the Item!]
The mountain snapped back into reality, appearing in his grasp once more with such force that his body nearly collapsed under the sudden shift.
Aether gritted his teeth, flames roaring higher around his frame, consuming the air in purple fire. Sweat streamed down his forehead as his lips curled into a snarl. He had exactly two seconds of freedom between storage and rejection.
Not long, not safe… but just enough.
His mind locked onto a single plan: he would teleport directly to Nyx’s house. Her personal realm was barred from him, but her house connected to it. If he could land inside, open the doorway in the correct direction, and force his way into her realm… all within those two seconds… then maybe, just maybe… he could succeed.
But if he failed… if he miscalculated by even a fraction of a second… if the door shattered under the force of the mountain… he would never see them again.
“Fuck!!”
Meanwhile, back within the depths of the Void’s Cradle…
A gentle breeze stirred the air the moment the mountain was ripped free from its bindings. The sticky black liquid that had surrounded the area quivered, rippling unnaturally. Then—
A patch of grey skin pushed through the tar-like surface.
Pop…
Something surfaced… Floating slowly!
