Chapter 1334: Again Nightfire as a bait?: Part-2
Ashara Nightfire’s POV
That’s what I said…
Yet,
Here I was, staring up at the fucking grey sky, with a half-dead expression pasted across my face.
I stood at the exit of the teleportation station, for all the world like a stray cat that had been tossed out after a long night of drinking.
“Arrh!!” I groaned, half shouting, half whining, head tipped back to let out the frustration. I could not believe I’d actually fallen for his trick.
Me—Nightfire—fooled by that smug bastard with his pretty words and his hands everywhere.
Fuck!!
Fuck you, asshole!
“I swear, I’m going to fuck him until he begs me for mercy. Until he can’t get up his cock ever!”
I screamed.
’Tsk, don’t be so dramatic… You made a deal with him, remember?’ That second voice, Ashara, echoed in my mind, sounding much too smug for my liking.
I snorted, folding my arms with a huff, my hair sticking out at odd angles. “So what? You really think one date and a whole night with his cock is going to make up for the crap I have to deal with?” I grumbled, kicking a pebble,
“As if my life is that cheap.”
’But… That’s what you asked for!!’ the voice shot back, growing even more exasperated, as if I was the one being unreasonable.
“…Well. Whatever.” I shrugged, tossing my head, pretending I didn’t care at all as I started marching down the city streets.
Without pausing, I sent a telepathic message to that bastard—Aether—the one who tossed me into this tiger’s den.
/What exactly do you want me to find, Pervert?/
/Find… anything unusual,/ he replied, and I could practically feel him lounging around somewhere, bored and far too relaxed… maybe fucking his woman!!!
Arrh!
/Unusual? What kind of half-assed answer is that?/ I fired back, my sarcasm sharp enough to cut glass as I glanced up and down the street.
/You want me to spot a woman screwing a man in broad daylight? Or maybe a group of idiots breaking into a shop? Wait, let me guess—a pack of creeps buying a skeletal corpse from some shady Lich?/
/…/
He went silent.
/You know what… you can come home and we’ll decide the other thing,/ he finally replied, his voice so casual it was almost infuriating.
When I heard that, my face went pale. There was no way I was letting him back out of the deal now—not after all the trouble I’d gone through.
Not after he’d got me all riled up.
I straightened my spine, chin high, and shot back,/I-It’s not like I’m being bitchy or anything… Just letting you know, if I die here, I’ll fucking haunt you for eternity. I’ll make sure you regret it every damn day./
/Oh? Then you’ll fuck me in the afterlife, too? I wonder how that feels~/
My lips twitched at his reply…. Motherfucker!
I shook my head, half-amused despite myself, then forced my expression into something serious.
Couldn’t afford to let him see me flustered. I started moving again, blending into the small clusters of people on the main avenue. The city was waking up… vendors setting up stalls, old men arguing over dice, a few street kids ducking between shadows and stealing… I paused here and there, asking a handful of people about the situation—anything strange, any trouble, any hint of something out of the ordinary.
But all of them just shrugged, giving me those blank, tired eyes that said everything was “fine.”
No rumors, no drama, nothing to report. Either I was losing my mind… or he was, and that thought alone made me want to punch something… Or someone.
I frowned as I talked to others too, moving from one place to another, trying to sniff out any kind of unusual activity. But to my surprise… nobody had seen anything out of the ordinary, other than their Empress suddenly telling them they had a new job offer.
Other than that, nothing much… No magical explosions, no monsters in the alleyways, not even a proper scandal.
I sighed, hours wasted with nothing to show for it. Eventually, I dragged myself over to a lonely table near the park, slumping down and letting the exhaustion sink into my bones.
As I sat there, I watched a group of orc women across the park square… one of them beating another orc woman without a hint of mercy. I just stared, chin propped on my hand, as if it was the most normal thing in the world, and nonchalantly relayed everything to Aether through our link.
/Nothing? Not even a fight or any structural damage?/ his voice echoed, expectant.
I frowned at that question, glancing again at the brawl happening right in front of me.
/Well, other than this fucked up fight between women, I didn’t see anything major though,/
/Hmm… not even a single unusual activity or… anything Mary suddenly did or caused?/
“Hmmm…” I muttered aloud, tilting my head and thinking deeply for a second before my eyes widened.
/Yeah, actually, there’s news of the Empress offering a new job./
/Which is?/ I could tell he was finally interested, probably thinking he’d caught onto something, but sorry to burst your bubble, husband—
/I didn’t know… Nobody knew what the job actually was. Just a new offer, and everyone went to work. I haven’t encountered anyone related to the work yet,/ I explained, my eyes fixed on the pitiful woman across the square who was now coughing blood, the fight having ended with her flat on the ground.
/Hmm… Is there any way to get there?/
I shrugged at his question… he couldn’t see it, but I’m sure he sensed my attitude anyway.
/Then look out for the work and find out what kind of work was going on there,/ he commanded, his tone strict and expectant, as if I was one of his soldiers.
/Okay, Sir… Your subject will obey your fucking order~/ I shot back sarcastically, rolling my eyes hard enough to hurt…. I finally huffed and cut the connection. A deep sigh escaped me just then—
“Oi, Succubus!”
I blinked, pulled out of my thoughts, and looked up to see the group of orc women now staring at me with deadly serious faces—the same bunch who had just beaten the pitiful woman to a pulp.
My eyebrows drew together, “What, Bitch?”
“Are you alone?” the lead orc woman asked, without any anger at my words. The rest of the group walked toward me in a tight formation, frowns on their faces, while the woman they’d battered slowly rose to her feet and limped away.
“No, I have family at home, why do you ask?” I shot back, not breaking eye contact.
Ashara lamented in my head, ’Why do you even answer if you’re just going to tell the truth?’
I shrugged—mentally and physically. I mean… these women looked like they were about to snuff me out like smoke, so maybe it was better to just keep things honest, rather than mouth off and get tossed through a wall.
I believe in nonviolence… Words are enough to solve anything!! At least, as long as I’m the one doing the talking.
That’s always been my rule.
And I’m no helpless, mouthless bitch. If anything, I know exactly how to deal with a pack of mouthy bitches like these—because if you act timid, they’ll fuck you up without a second thought!
As I stared directly into their eyes, not a hint of care or worry on my face, I could feel their numbers pressing in, but honestly—I didn’t give a damn.
The trick with crowds like these? Never let them see fear. As long as you stand tall and keep your chin up, you’ll make it through almost anything.
The orc women glanced at each other, silent for a second, then turned back to me. The leader spoke up, “Our friend… kind of wounded herself, so we need someone to take her spot. So, would you mind?”
I looked at them with a flat, annoyed expression.
See? Just because I’m a succubus, they don’t hesitate to ask—no shame at all.
This was exactly why I hated coming here. These people always expected you to be up for anything just because of your race. These fuckers…
Just staying in the Palace like a queen—now that was the life. Whenever I wanted food, it arrived. Whenever I got horny, I could drag him to bed without a second thought. That’s the life I was made for—not this nonsense!
Shaking my head, I shot back, “I’m not like other succubi. I’m not interested in taking someone’s spot and… I’m married.” That last part actually felt a little exciting to say out loud, a hint of pride in my tone.
The women exchanged glances again, then one of them spoke, “I think you misunderstood us. Haven’t you heard about the Empress’s new job? The soldiers only accept groups of four. The previous girl just cheated on us, so we’re short one, and we don’t have time to find anyone else. So, will you come? It’s just a weightlifting job, you don’t even need to do anything special.”
“Yes,” another orc woman added, nodding quickly. “We just need a number to fill, that’s all. You won’t need to actually do the job—just be there with us. When the work is finished, we’ll give you… half of what the previous girl was supposed to earn.”
When I heard that, I paused.
Was this really luck? Or… did some god take pity on me for once?
Of course, I accepted on the spot—no hesitation. If the universe handed you a bone, you didn’t look at the teeth.
The orc women all sighed in relief, tension draining from their faces. Apparently, they’d been worried too. Whatever. At least now I’d finally have a chance to figure out what was really going on.
Soon enough, the orc women hustled me into a battered old carriage. It rattled along the city streets, carrying us out toward the edge of the Empire.
“Wait… isn’t this Grenthollow?” I asked in surprise. This place was supposed to be one of the most highly protected zones in the whole empire—nobody got past the old wards and guards.
Well, at least, that’s how it used to be… until my dear husband came along, took down a mountain, and tore up the ground like it was nothing. Even so, I was shocked when, in the distance, I saw a massive dome rising over the horizon!
What the hell was going on here?
One of the orc women answered, “It used to be Grenthollow… but now this is the new workplace the Empress ordered us to report to.”
“What exactly are you guys doing here?” I pressed.
But they just shook their heads, not meeting my eyes. “We don’t know. We just do the job and take the money. That’s all.”
I frowned… That answer was way too vague for my taste.
Was this something illegal? Or something even more dangerous?
My mind spun with theories, but there was no time to dig deeper—the carriage had already rumbled to a halt. We’d reached the outer gates.
When I stepped out of the carriage along with the other women, the guards handed each of us a rough, hooded cloak.
“Here, we’re not allowed to show each other’s faces. Wear this and never take the hood off your face. You got it?” one of the orc women said, her tone dead serious.
I nodded slowly, the feeling of unease deepening in my gut. Whatever was happening here, it was getting fishier by the second.
I pulled the hood low over my eyes and followed them, trying not to draw attention.
The gates ahead were heavily guarded—dozens of armoured figures on patrol.
There were multiple checkpoints, each one stricter than the last, just to get through the massive outer wall. I couldn’t help but wonder—when had they built all this? Where did they get the resources, the people, the time?
This much modification, this much security, all in such a short span?
It felt impossible.
Had they been preparing this even before the so-called “job offer” went public?
As we reached the final checkpoint, the orc woman ahead of me leaned close and whispered, “Give me your Origin Card.”
I frowned in confusion but handed it over anyway. She took my card and the other two, then passed all four to the leader, who stepped forward and addressed the guard,
“Four Orcs from the Orcarin tribe.”
The guard took the stack, his eyes darting over the names and faces. Then he looked up and scanned our group. When his gaze landed on me, my heart skipped a beat.
Instinctively, I stepped back.
He squinted, staring like he was trying to see right through my hood. “Hmm… for an orc, why does that one look so small?” he muttered, frowning at the front orc.
“It’s just a teenage orc,” the lead woman replied smoothly, not missing a beat. “She doesn’t look like us adults. She needed money urgently for her family.”
The guard grunted, not entirely convinced. He kept staring at me, suspicion in his eyes, and for a second I thought he might reach up and yank the hood away. My instincts screamed—get ready, run or fight, do something. I clenched my fist under the cloak, just waiting for his move—
But before he could get closer, another guard behind him barked, “Oi! Let them through already. Don’t waste time again!”
My guard paused, let out an irritated sigh, and finally waved us through. “Go.”
Only then did I let out a huge breath… We wasted no time. My group and I hurried past the checkpoint and inside the gates, my heart thundering as the danger faded behind us.
As I glanced back, I noticed the suspicious guard looking at my Origin Card one last time before tossing it in a steel box with the rest.
With that, I had finally entered the Gren—well, whatever this new place was—after all that hassle.
I grinned under my hood.
See, Aether? You’d better get that cock ready.
Because when I’m done with this, I’m going to suck you dry until I finally calm this damn hunger down!
Puahahahaha!
