Little Song Bird Is Pregnant - Chapter 105 - The End Of The Preliminary Test
Chapter 105 – The End Of The Preliminary Test
Wren climbed up the way he came from. But as he reached a certain height, he realized a problem. He did not know which snake pit he actually entered this mountain's core.
"Tsk, I'll just climb to the top," this huge ditch that was being melted by the fore spirit made a straw-like hole in the middle. He could see the sky from above.
He simply started climbing up without stopping.
At one point, the others might have realized that he had gone missing and if they went searching for him, they will find the path.
'Camilla's smart she's figure it out," he thought as he ascended up.
The snake holes were not that dangerous here because all the snakes were facing the other way. He saw their huge tails swishing out of their dens occasionally as they melted the ice shards forming on their body.
Wren carefully moved so that he did not get discovered by them.
In just about half an hour, he reached the top of the mountain. He climbed out of the hole.
The bone-chilling cold wind gushed over his face,
He squatted down, making his body small as possible. Hurriedly, he took out his shirt and his coats and wore them.
"Tsk," a small sound was heard behind him.
Wren glanced back. It was that white-clothed cultivator.
"Whoa you already reached the top?! Why didn't anyone notice it?"
Wren distinctly remembered this guy entered the snake den along with the others, but…. He did not see him move. 'How did this guy even sneak out without being noticed…'
"So… we are the fist to reach, huh?"
The man did not even bother to look his way.
Wren also did not wish to spare him any more of his time. He moved as physically as possible to the deep hole to heat his cold hands.
Even Feng was slightly trembling. He hurriedly placed his warm hands inside.
On a side glance, he noticed the white-clothed cultivator peering at him.
As soon as their eyes met, the guy glanced away.
"I'm Wren,"
"….."
"so you don't wish to talk to anyone, huh?"'
"…."
Wren just gave him a look.
The young cultivator was looking at him with an intense glance. "you better dye your hair again. It's showing," he said, turning away from him.
Wren anxiously touched his hair. He, of course, could not see the top of his head. He took out a small silver spoon from his pouch and glanced at his reflection. The tip of his hair was black, but the roots… they were slightly showing pink.
His heart almost stopped.
Wren hurriedly tied a scarf around his head, hiding his scalp.
He focused his attention on the man. This guy knew his secret…. If by any chance the evildoers know of his presence, they will come for him..
Feng will be implicated…
'I… I'm still weak.. what will I do… I can't let them find out about me….'
Wren silently took out his dagger, ready to stab this man.
If killing him would mean he could keep his mate safe, then he would do it anytime…
"do not fret. Your identity is safe with me. I too am from a very special clan." He pulled up his sleeves, exposing his blue veins. His hands were.. transparent.
"I'm also from the jellyfish clan."
Wren was more than surprised. "w-what?"
"I'm just like you. But not as special as you thought…"
Wren stiffened up. "I'm not a jellyfish. I'm an oyster,"
The man looked taken aback. "What? t-that's not possible. You can't be an oyster…."
"I definitely know what I am," Wren said with a serious look.
This guy looked very innocent and genuine with his admission, but he really did not want to admit that his mother was from the jellyfish family. If he did, he feared that there will be consequences.
Though a rare occurrence, there are bound to be pink oysters around the world. At least, that is a believable claim.
The cultivator thought about it for a second. "Pink oyster huh…. I never know oysters can be pink…"
"I'm a rarity. Don't tell anyone. They might sell me to a spirit pet shop," he jokingly whispered.
"I won't. And please don't reveal my identity too. By the way, I'm Meng lei,"
Wren nodded. As of now, he made a mental note to observe this man. "What is your purpose of joining here…. I mean, it's a long way for a jellyfish to travel."
The jellyfish clan only lived in the north.
Meng lei just gave him a smile as an answer.
Wren had heard from Feng that all jellyfish clan was hunted down after his mother's incident. Human cultivators, beast cultivators…. Everyone wanted this immortal blood.
They started to hunt down all jellyfishes in hopes they would find a golden jellyfish.
The jellyfish clan was eventually fished until they were extinct.
At least that's what he had heard.
Here, in front of him, was a jellyfish who openly revealed his identity.
That was the most doubtful thing. If he was hunted down and in great danger, why would he reveal his identity to a darn stranger?
Wren knew something was amiss.
He became a silent observer, waiting for this man to act.
One hour passed… then another… then another…
Nothing, this man did nothing. He just sat there meditating.
Wren kept his eyes only on him.
The other participants also climbed up to the top of the mountain but only the first four of them were allowed.
Camilla got through and her friend as well. Shuri sadly came through along with one of his lackie.
The rest of the participants were stopped by an invisible shield at the opening of the trench.
"Wren~" Camilla stuck to him. "why didn't you tell me you found a way?"
"I forgot which snake pit we were in,"
"Lies!" Shuri shouted. "You wanted to be the only one to pass, right! Selfish bastard! You would not even be alive if not for us!"
Wren silently looked his way. "Can you clarify my memory, in what ways you protected or saved me hmm? I'm very confused about this matter. As far as I remember, I was the one who slew an ice serpent that was about to devour you…"
"yeah stop it Shuri. You've become too unruly as years have gone."
Shuri gritted his teeth, looking down at his friends who were still hanging onto the edge. There were only six spots up at the top. The rest could not enter.. 'if… if I take out two of them my friends can come up….'
He first targeted Wren but remembering his excellent swordsmanship he changed his mind. 'I can deal with this guy with my brothers and sisters… he's not someone I can deal with alone.'
Camilla was from a very famous and powerful family. If he hurt her, her father will hunt him down.
There was only one choice left.
He glanced back at the white-clothed cultivator. This guy had been haughty the moment they had entered this test. Instinctively, he also felt the pure spiritual energy surrounding this guy. If he got into the academy, then he would outmatch him.
Wren noticed his stare. He was used to the cruelty this guy did at the foot of the mountain. But he silently observed Meng lei.
Shuri tried to pull a surprise attack on him.
Meng lei simply dodged it.
That's exactly what happened for ten minutes. Shuri ran after him, throwing attacks after another, and Meng lei just dodged them without retaliating.
Wren was more than bored by their exchange. "who long till this test ends?"
"Soon." Camilla sat next to him. "Psst, Wren. Do you know how that guy even got here?"
"Donno. He was already here long back,"
"oh,"
Wren, Camilla and her friends sat there silently chatting with themselves.
Meng lei and Shuri were still fighting.
Suddenly, a huge gust of wind almost pushed them all off of the peak.
Wren grabbed onto anything he could to keep himself steady.
"Hold my hand,"
Camilla had stabbed a dagger into the thick ice and was holding onto it.
Wren quickly took her hand.
Soon the smoky clouds cleared up, revealing a huge blue ship floating above them.
An old man glanced down at them with a bright smirk. "This year is very promising. We have six just in the preliminary. It's a wonder," he chuckled softly.
He rolled down a ladder. "Come on then, young lads and ladies. Get up here."
Shuri pushed everyone out of the way and got onto the ship first.
Wren gave way for Camilla and her friend. And then got in.
Meng lei was the last to board the ship.
Wren was curiously looking at the mountain top. "What about the others? There are some trapped in the mountain's core,"
The old man smirked. "They will be retrieved…"
This ship was much smaller than the one he had, but the spiritual energy he felt on it was on another level.
It felt so strong. He was not the one manning this ship.. it made him wonder how the amazing cultivator driving it was.
As he was wondering this, the treacherous sight came into view.
The foot of the mountain that was snowy white was now red and black.
The small black specks were none other than the participants.
And the red spots… it went without explaining it was blood.
'so much bloodshed and only six were selected. No, no, we just passed the preliminary round… this is absurd… how many students can the academy recruit in this fashion?'
