Little Song Bird Is Pregnant - Chapter 95 - The Bulletin Board

Chapter 95 – The Bulletin Board
Wren was super excited. He never expected to find such an amazing spiritual treasure like this for free. He only needed to pay for that plate. That stone was completely free.
He watched the clerk take the display item over to the billing area along with his finds.
He anxiously watched him as he billed it.
Only after the payment was made did he let out a breath of relief. "It's ours now.." he sighed, gently caressing Feng's head.
The little bird just gave him a confused look.
The little clerk ran to him and handed it. "Here you go, sir. I hope you can store it and maintain it well. If the enamel chips you can give it to us for maintenance…"
Wren hurriedly removed the glass casing and took out the treasure.
His hands were full so he handed the plate to the clerk and only held the stone. The black cube felt electrifying to touch. He could barely feel the muscles in his arms from the discharge of energy.
"It's amazing.."
"The rock sir?"' the clerk confusedly looked at him.
"Yeah, it's… cute," he shoved it inside the space pouch and took the plate from him. "thank you so much for your help. How much do I owe you…."
"It's.. Not much, sir. Just three silvers,"
"Oh," Wren searched in his pouch. He did not even have silvers. He took out three gold coins and gave it to him.
"Sir! T-this is too much!"
"I don't have change. Keep it. Oh and have some confidence. You did a good job today. Some people are moved by kindness. "
The clerk was moved to tears. He hid his face in his long sleeves and waved at him.
Wren walked out excitedly. "Feng, can you believe that? I got it for free. Wow, I can barely feel my arm," he flexed his arms. His veins had already popped up from the strain.
Feng just gave him a look. "chirp?"
"Oh wait a bit." He took out the small golden bell from the pouch and peered at it. "should I wear it or should you?" he placed it on his neck. The straps were definitely small and made for a cat or a pet. "I guess it's made for you,"
He gently tied the bell on Feng.
Little Feng bit the bell curiously. "It's not that cute. Look at it, it's big as my head," his chirpy voice came out of the bell.
Wren looked at him in shock. "It worked!"
"it did?" Feng tilted his head cutely. "I'm just chirping, though. I don't feel any difference,"
"I can hear your voice, Feng. Aww, it's so cute as a kid." He kissed his little head. "You're so adorable."
Feng kicked his face away. "K-keep to yourself. We are in public darn it,"
"It's okay. You're a bird and I'm a human. No one will think wrong of us." Wren kissed his beak again.
Feng glanced around. His mate was right. There were a lot of cultivators that were carrying their spirit around.
Spirit pets are usually the little beast that did not possess the ability to form a beast core. without the core, they won't be able to regain their human form forever.
"It's a pity though….. they are not free," he mumbled softly.
Wren gently scratched his chin. "Yeah, but they look happy,"
The spirit beast he saw looked very happy and content with its owners.
"They just adapted to look happy. Who likes an aggressive pet? If they get rejected by one owner they will be put down. It's their way of survival," unlike his naive mate he saw the dirty side of this lovely picture. The beast that looked happy had a very sad look in their eyes.
Those eyes craved freedom.
He was lucky that he was born privileged. He shrunk into Wren's shirt.
"You angry?"
Feng glanced at him, eyes narrowed. "Why do you always assume that I'm hungry?"
"Well, because I'm always hungry. And when I'm hungry, I'm either sad or angry," Wren took out the quid jerky and started to chew on it loudly.
"I'll look for some place to stay,"
They walked by a few inns, but all the rooms were booked.
Wren was slightly annoyed. "Should we sleep in our ship?"
"Do you want to lure bandits," Feng slightly bit his nipple?
"hisss please don misuse my nipple like that. One day you might accidentally bite it off," he massaged his chest. "Besides why do you have to worry about bandits in such a huge city? Won't there be guards?"
Feng playfully bit his nipple again. "Oh you should see the state of my nipple. You beast of a man you really chewed upon it,"
Wren chuckled.
"And this city is not as it seems. Even though it looks so boisterous in the morning when the night creeps over, danger lurks in every corner. Cold northern winds flow here, freezing everything in its path. And that's when the night bandits come out. Even now we are being targeted by a few people,"
"I know," Wren casually whispered as he was walking through the market. "I can feel them well… their cultivation is low,"
"Don't underestimate humans, Wren! Never do that! They may be ants but even ants like a colony can kill a mighty beast. Beware, even I was attacked by a human. It was a very low blow but that human managed to hurt my core…."
"Wait you said a heavenly thunder and Hua ro hurt you," Wren stopped at the side of the building peeping into his shirt.
"Technically yes. I was hurt badly by Hua Ro, so I went to cultivate. There I met up with bandits. I too treated them like ants and killed all of them. But one escaped. When I was in the middle of breakthrough, that man stabbed me. The thunder struck right then…. my core was shattered. My body was burned….."
Wren gritted his teeth and growled loudly.
"Hey calm down. That guy got struck by the thunder as well. He's dead,"
"If not, I would have chased him down and crushed him…" Wren gently hugged him. "Feng… I'll never let that happen again. I'll go and kill those humans,"
"Whoa whoa, wait a bit," Feng pinched gaian.
"Not the nipple again….." he groaned loudly.
"Listen you can't just go and kill someone. Those groups of people will not act in the morning and will not attack you if you have a place to stay. That's the rule they stay by,"
Wren clenched the sword tightly, even now totally unconvinced.
"Come on Wren, you can kill them now. the local guards will capture you and imprison you,"
"What if I kill them at night?"
"Seriously, you're going to search for trouble?"
Wren nodded. "I don't want any unnecessary risk so I have to destroy the problem when it's in the bud,"
Feng chirped. "you're really a troublesome kid. Go search for an inn. I want to take a warm bath,"
"bath…." Wren froze. "naked…" he smirked widely.
"your pervert. To clean my body and to sleep! Don't get any intentions. You have to reserve all your energy for the selection exam," Feng flapped his wings angrily.
Wren sheepishly smirked. "so when is this exam. I forgot to ask around,"
"it will remain a secret until the competition starts, but a few hints will be left in the city bulletin board. Let's go check it out,"
"okey~" Wren happily explored more of the city. the place closer to the academy looked luxurious but as he walked farther and farther it became apparent the spread of wealth and status. It was just like this in that small village near the shore.
Walking for a bit, he came to the city market site. There was a huge bullet born in the middle and young people were crowding close to it.
Wren stood in the corner and read the contents. "they have yet to announce anything,"
"hmm, a few days… they will announce in a few days. Let's go find an inn. Sun will set soon and we need to get off the streets." Feng hurriedly whispered.
Wren gave one last look at the board and walked away.
After visiting ten more inns, he was still not successful at finding a place to sleep. It was getting dark, and the temperature dropped significantly.
His hands started to freeze slightly.
"wear your gloves.." Feng trembled inside his shirt.
Wren took out some clothes from his pouch and first, he made sure to wrap Feng in it. he placed him inside his shirt again. Only after that did he wear his gloves.
His feet also were frozen. The rattan shoes were almost on the verge of tearing.
He tossed them away and changed into a pair of leather shoes and spider silk socks.
The warm silk lie cloth helped regain heat. He trembled slightly, hugging Feng to his chest.
The sun completely set. Darkness came about… and they had no place to stay.
"I guess we are sleeping on the streets,"
