Little Song Bird Is Pregnant - Chapter 98 - Suspicious Partners

Chapter 98 – Suspicious Partners
The little Elf narrated a story for almost an hour or so. It was very very long.. the man really liked talking for sure.
Wren summarized all the information in just five sentences.
Dukal family cultivates in a water-type cultivation technique that helps them breathe underwater. They were humans, not beasts. Breathing underwater comes easy for an aquatic beast like him.
Sheli, the female-only cultivation family that are good weaponsmiths. Their weapons are really sought after. Even the other beast cultivators and other creatures love to get a hand on them. But the sheli family only produces a small amount of them and auctions them off.
Atul the warrior and the protector, family of Rene. They are the ones who are mainly in charge of the security and guarding of the three shores and the huge city. They are aware of everyone's movements.
Kaila a powerful alchemist family. The medicines they create have been sought after for generations. They are the only ones in this city/ kingdom who are capable of creating a spirit-grade pill. They are well sought after and respected in this city.
Finally, the Baro family. They were beast trainers. Aka. They tame and train the spirit beast.
Wren sat there, nodding off his head.
"Young master…. Am I boring ?" the Elf whispered with a small pout.
"Can you tell me about the entrance exams?"
"Gladly, the first entrance exams started in the year…"
"Wait a bit. Let's not go way back. Just tell me the details of the first exam,"
Alin took a deep breath and opened the book. "The first exam was in the nearby black forest. The participants were instructed to find a magic egg."
"That sounds simple," Wren happily smirked.
"A magic egg of the three-headed serpent. One head can spit out poison one head can freeze your body and one head can burn you into ashes,"
Wren gulped. "That doesn't sound good…"
"Yes, every year only ten positions are open for the academy so people are willing to risk their lives to get a slot. If they got in, it is a great honor to their family." Alin whispered softly. "young master, do you want some chocolate milk?"
"yes please,"
The Elf ran to the small fireplace and heated up some milk.
"So what happened previous year?"
"They were tasked to find a very precious pearl of the hiluin oysters,"
"Gasp! Humans kill oysters!!!"' Wren gasped. Their tripe can also create pearls and he had heard about humans hunting oysters for them. He had never seen one though because the place they loved was inhabited by other dangerous tribes, the humans never approached them.
"Humans kill everything. It's nothing to be surprised about, master," the Elf gave him a cup of hot choco. "That's why you have to be very careful with your identity. You should never let anyone know that you are a beast cultivator. The Baro family might even try to tame you and use you as a spirit pet,"
Wren anxiously gripped the cup. He knew humans' world was dangerous but he did not expect it to be this dangerous.
There was a soft knock on the door.
Wren was startled. He hurriedly took the poker stick as a weapon ready to attack.
Alin slowly tottered to the door. "Yes?"
"it's me." An ancient voice said from the other side.
Alin opened the door.
An old man with pure white hair dressed in a midnight blue cape walked in. "you called me so late at night old friend. It getting dangerous out here and my old bones could be at risk," his pure white eyes focused on him. "Who might this be?"
Wren still held that stick.
"Bow to him," the Elf patted his back. "this is our young master, and young master this is my old-time friend and a confidant of your father Helios" "
"Y-young… master….. Wait young master!!" he glanced at him in shock. "You're back sir! We have been waiting so long for your arrival! This is amazing! This is amazing….. But.." the old man fidgeted. "I don't have that… one of my stupid apprentices misplaced it and it was put in a display. Someone brought it. I'm tracking it down as we speak. I will return what is originally yours master. I swear on my name."
Wren just silently nodded.
"Hey, young master is the one who brought it. Can't you feel it on him?"
They both peered at him.
Wren tightly held the poker stick. "What do you both want?"
"Nothing master, your father had trusted me with a treasure and we were tasked to hand it over to you when we see you. One of my apprentices misplaced it."
"Helios I'm telling you master is the one who brought it. Young master, you have that cube, right?"
"Yeah," Wren nodded.
"See I told you,"
The older man let out a deep breath. 'it's finally back to its owner,"
The Elf also took the leather-bound book from the counter and handed it to him. "This was left by your mother. Only you can open it,"
Wren took it from him gingerly. "When.. When did you meet my mother?"
"After our heavenly emperor got married they went on a small trip around the five kingdoms along with us two. They dropped by here to check on eth five families that he had nurtured. After doing so they left behind five treasures in their keep to be handed over to you their future child. But the five families became greedy. They wanted the treasure to themselves. And right after your father left this realm they all hid them away," the old man sighed.
"We both have been able to retrieve only two of the treasures. We have been living in hiding, keeping them safe for your arrival."
Wren felt their story to be quite inconsistent. No one knew of his existence. His birth mother even did not know he was in her stomach when she was killed.
"Lies…. You both are lying,"
The two of them looked at him confused. "why do you say so young master? We really have no bad intentions towards you,"
"No one knows I existed."
"The heavenly rain, young master. It is our majesty crying from the other realm. He would not spend years shedding tears for anything. He must have known of your existence. This was how the five kingdoms also got to know of your existence, your life is at risk. You have to hide your identity well master,"
Wren felt like he could not believe them anymore. Even so, he nodded and took the alchemy book upstairs.
He gently shook Feng who was deep in sleep. "We have to leave, Feng,"
"Why?" he whispered.
"I feel like something is wrong with these two… something is very suspicious…."
Feng sat up, yawning. "Should we leave now?"
"Not now, we'll leave tomorrow. We should use your face changing treasure to change our appearance,"
"Hmm.." Feng pulled him back into the bed.
Wren felt his warmth spread through his body. "Aren't you worried?"
"Nah, I can handle anything they throw at us. The Elf is ten thousand years old but his core is badly danged. He has been reduced to a core developing stage. Even you can take him out. as for the other one who entered this place, his body seems like he is in the same state,"
Wren silently thought about it. "Really? You know they said that they went againt the five families for me. I didn't believe that one bit. Do you think they are telling the truth?"
"I didn't feel any malicious intent from them Wren. But if you feel unsafe we can leave,"
Wren pouted. He was still a child in beast for years. He had not been in contact with many humans or beats. He did not know who to trust but thankfully Feng was with him.
With his guidance, he was assured that they both will be safe.
He hugged him tightly. "we are leaving though.."
"Okay your wish. What's the book?"
"Elf said it was my mothers," Wren pulled the book from the table and handed it to Feng. "try opening it?'
Feng gripped the hard bound cover. "umm… why can't I open it?" he strained himself but even he could not open the darn thing. "What's this magic?"
"he said only I can open it," Wren took it from him and opened it. the book opened without any resistance.
"Wow," Feng took it from him. "It's alchemy basics one! Wren!!! Your mum had this. he gingerly took the book and looked at the label. It's the first edition! It's super rare. It's said to have a lot of spirit-level pill recipes. Even legendary ones," he happily browsed through the contents.
Wren was more than happy to hand it over to Feng. He was not interested in alchemy, and did not wish to pursue that.
"Wren, look," Feng gestured for him to look at the page. There was a small written note there by the pill recipe.
Eth handwriting was very neat, and elegant. It was written in a familiar sea ink from the octopus. He gently touched the writing.
"Her writing is clean. She must have been a very beautiful lady," Feng whispered.
Wren smiled. "She must have been,"
