Little Song Bird Is Pregnant - Chapter 99 - Puzzle And A Clue
Chapter 99 – Puzzle And A Clue
The next morning Wren woke up first and packed up their things. There was not much to pack. He tossed all his belongings into his space pouch and got ready to leave.
Just then he woke p Feng who was sleeping so peacefully.
He couldn't help but look at his angelic face when he was asleep. He looked like a whole different person.
"Feng," he kissed his cheeks.
Feng groaned and pushed his head away.
"We have to leave, dear. Come on, get up. We'll go shopping and eat some tasty meat."
Feng cracked open his eyes with a slight glare. "it's barely morning,"
"It's six. And I think the competition was announced,"
Feng sat up immediately. "How did you."
"Look out the window"
Feng ran to the window and peered out. a huge crowd was forming even in the streets. There was a huge traffic jam with all the carriages waiting in line. Young men and women were excitedly running towards the direction of the display board.
"Fuck we have to leave now!" he hurriedly wore his clothes.
Wren just blinked at him.
"What are you blinking at me for? Come on, the tests have only a certain number of slots."
"Feng," Wren hugged him. "Did you forget something?"
"What?"
"Your bird form…"
Feng pouted. "Ah I hate this." he swiftly changed into his bird form. The clothes he was wearing all dropped to the floor.
Wren picked it up, folded it and stored it in his pouch. He picked up the sulking bird and kissed his beak. "My lovely little mate. You can enjoy the view of my chest. And… I'll give you all the permission to bite my nipple. Only if you promise not to pop your head out."
Feng adjusted the bell around his neck. "as if I would listen to that. I will bite you nipples and I will pop my head out and take a look." he flew over to his shoulders "No go, make a move. We have to get that spot!"
"Yes~" Wren excitedly ran down.
Only the old man stood there waiting for him. "ah young master, the entrance test has been announced. It looks like it's near the coast but they won't allow you to bring your things. It's better to leave it here,"
Wren glanced at him up and down. "Yeah I'll take care of that issue,"
"M-master. It's not safe out there. We are here to protect your belongings,"
Wren pushed him out of the way. "Don't stand in my way again."
He ran out of the store.
"What was that about?" Feng poked his head out.
"He's being shady," Wren mumbled, rushing through the busy streets.
The crowd was standing for up to a two streets away.
Wren hopped a little to get a glimpse of the board. "Looks like we have to improvise,"
"Fly?" Feng chirpily whispered.
Wren glanced at him. "Baby I don't have wings." He walked over to the nearby building. It was completely made up of stone and some kind of white substance sticking it together. It also had small gives in between,
Using it as a grip Wren climbed up high onto the roof.
Here he got an uninterrupted view of the board. A lot of other people were also doing so but with their flying swords and artifacts.
A group that was flowing ahead of him glanced back. The man he had seen in that artifact store also was there.
'Wonder which family they are from?'
They all swiftly flew away to his right towards the coast.
Wren sat there calmly, reading the board. It only said a few words. "Your eyes see crystal blue. The soul breathes anew. Time limit – 8 hours."
It was exactly 7 am right then. so they had to reach the location by 3 pm.
"Huh, what does that even mean?"
Feng wiggled out of the shirt and sat on his shoulders. "It's the ocean. You heard the old man. It must be near the shores. The other also flew that way. Come on quickly, take out your flying sword and fly."
"I have something like that?"
"Wren! The sword I gave you is a spiritual sword! of course it can fly. That's why I asked you to, instead you chose to climb up like a monkey."
"Oh, sorry," Wren awkwardly unwrapped the sword. The azure sword slightly shimmered in the sunlight.
"How does it work?"
"You just stand on it and inject your spiritual energy,"
Wren just sat there peering at his sword.
"Wren, get a move on! Come on we can't waste time!"
"Wait a bit," Wren reread the verse. "are you sure it's the shores? I mean, it won't be that simple, right? If so, why would they give us 8 hours? The shore is just ten minutes from the city."
He had read about the past entrance exams. All of them were complicated. they never gave a direct puzzle like this one. Never.
Feng paused for a second.
"You… you're right… they won't make it that simple," he pranced around a bit. "Wren take out that book about Rene,"
Wren took it out and opened it for his lover.
"Open the page where it explains the topography,"
Wren flipped through the pages and came to the last few. He did not have the time to read through these last night.
"Wait! Right there," Feng hopped on the book. "this… I think this is it,"
Wren lifted his lover off the book and read through the context. It was about a frozen mountian that was just an hour from the city. It was a trek fill with dangerous man eating beats, steep paths and frost rivers. It was also the home to one of the tallest mountains in the kingdom, the frosty mountain. So many men had died while to conquer its height.
"The Frost mountain of Rene. It's said to the tallest. It's always covered in a layer of crystallized ice that appears blue like the sea from a distance. At such an altitude you will be devoid of air."
"Crystal blue and breathes anew, it makes sense." Wren hesitated a bit. Even if his guess was wrong then he would only lose the chance to join the academy this year.
After thinking about it for a moment Wren stood up patting his clothes. "what do I have to lose. If that isn't the exam spot, then at least we would have enjoyed the wonderful climb,"
"And the view is the die for. I've always wanted to fly to his peak. But even my wings could not handle the altitude," Feng whispered softly.
"Well, baby, today we are going there," Wren happily took out the sword. Closing his eyes, he injected some of his energy into it.
The sword hovered by his foot.
He jumped on it keeping his body well balanced. "lets go,"
The sword whooshed through the air.
Wren could not handle its speed. He was almost thrown off. He was hanging by grabbing onto its hilt. "Slow down!"
The sword slowed down and moved like a snail.
He took this chance to climb onto it again.
"Feng, you okay?" he checked inside his shirt.
Feng's feathers were in disarray but he looked to be in good shape. "I must have given your training on how to fly,"
Wren chuckled. "Don't worry I can learn on the go. By the way, you said you could not fly to the peak. Why is that?"
"Air pressure and spiritual pressure. It's so dense that if you fly close to it, it will push you down to the ground and smash you like a pancake. Just fly close to the start of the trail. After that you would have to start your climb,"
Wren nodded.
The mountain was very close by but the path to reach the tip looked very dangerous. The mountain range was not in the same heights. At some point, he would have to climb a vertical mountain to get to the next available trail.
By the foot of the mountain, he jumped off the sword.
The cold wind whooshed over his body, making him shiver uncontrollably.
"Wren, wear your protective clothes. The top of this place is as cold as the city at night,"
Wren hurriedly took out the coats and the pants and wore it over his clothes. He made sure to wrap Feng in a layer of the scarf and made a nest for him in his clothes.
"Your mouth and nose, cover it. Breathing in cold air is not that good. This place is filled with very pure spiritual energy; it's so concentrated that it's like a dagger. It can cut your insides,"
Wren wrapped a scarf around the bottom half of his face, covering his three orifices.
"This is our honeymoon, I bet the top is a romantic spot," he mumbled as he started his trek.
"You've got to be kidding me. Wren this is not a honeymoon. Its training. Take it seriously,"
"Yes my Wifey,"
"w-wifey?! Who is your wifey! You are my wifey, you silly oyster. How can I be the wife?!"
Wren chuckled. "Yes yes, I'm the wife and you are my darling handsome husband."
"yes, that's right,"
