Chapter 102: Chapter 88: Princess (3)
BANG! BANG!
Zhou Chen fired twice, but the two Shadow Demon Wolves recovered in an instant. One of them tilted its head, and the bullet merely grazed its skull, leaving a raw, bloody gash as it flew past.
The other, uninjured wolf simply entered its Phantom State.
A sharp gust of wind hit him in the face. A claw swept out, shattering the Flintlock Gun in Zhou Chen’s hand and sending him flying once more.
In mid-air, Zhou Chen twisted to right himself, landing solidly on his feet against a wall. Coordinating every muscle in his body, he used it as a springboard and kicked off with explosive force. He shot forward like a tightly coiled spring, moving too fast for the naked eye to follow and kicking up a howling gale.
The metal on his Battle Armor’s right arm rapidly transformed, reshaping into a sharp Long Saber that he gripped tightly.
’Target: the injured dog.’
A pale fire ignited along the blade as the haunting whistle sounded again, briefly immobilizing its target.
SWOOSH! The Long Saber carved an arc through the air, its incredible speed lending it enough force to slice through the Shadow Demon Wolf’s head.
’The bad news: he hadn’t taken its head clean off.’
Foul, black blood gushed out as half of the Shadow Demon Wolf’s head slumped to the side, hanging on by just a few scraps of skin and flesh.
With a heavy CRASH, it collapsed to the ground. It twitched a few times, then fell still, dead.
’The good news: it was dead.’
Before Zhou Chen had even landed, the other Shadow Demon Wolf opened its massive jaws, roared, and lunged. It kicked up a furious wind, charging like a runaway freight train.
CRUNCH! Its massive jaws snapped shut, clamping down hard. It began to chew on him like a chew toy, its terrifying bite force sending sparks flying from his Battle Armor with the grating shriek of grinding steel.
Zhou Chen remained perfectly calm. A pale flame answered his call, igniting and blazing furiously inside the Demon Wolf’s mouth.
’I’ve seen suicidal idiots before, but never one this dumb. Trying to eat a Fire Type, Spiritual Type Ascender who also happens to be an Alchemy Apprentice? Is it trying to give itself a canker sore?’
SHINK! SHINK! SHINK! Countless metal spikes suddenly erupted from the Battle Armor, like a startled pufferfish. They instantly pierced the Shadow Demon Wolf’s mouth, riddling it with bloody holes and forcing it to release its grip with a pained yelp.
Zhou Chen fell to the ground and quickly performed a kip-up to get back on his feet. He saw his Battle Armor was dented and covered in bite marks.
The Shadow Demon Wolf used Shadow Shifting to retreat to a safe distance. Its head was riddled with an unknown number of bloody holes from which black blood streamed, quickly forming a grisly pool on the ground.
The man and the wolf stared each other down from across the space, like two cowboys in a deadly duel, or a pair of savage beasts about to clash on the savanna.
The Shadow Demon Wolf broke the silence, lunging forward with terrifying speed.
Zhou Chen gripped his Long Saber and shot forward to meet it.
In the next instant, the Shadow Demon Wolf vanished, using Shadow Shifting to deviously reappear behind Zhou Chen and leap in for the kill.
The moment his target vanished, Zhou Chen spun around as if he’d been expecting it. Seeing the Demon Wolf pouncing toward him, he dropped into a slide—
BANG!!!
A sudden gunshot shattered the silent battle, tearing through the quiet.
The Demon Wolf, still in mid-air, reeled as if from a massive blow. Countless bloody bullet holes appeared on its body as the immense force sent it flying.
’What the hell?!’
Halfway through his slide, Zhou Chen whipped his head around toward the sound of the gunshot, and froze.
The crate marked “052” had somehow been opened.
And standing in front of the weapons crate was a blonde-haired, blue-eyed… princess?
Her features were delicate and beautiful. She wore jewels around her snow-white neck and was dressed in a magnificent gold-and-white gown, her arms covered by ivory-white, gold-trimmed lace gloves. It looked like the formal attire of some Western aristocrat.
However, her blonde hair was disheveled, the hem of her gown was torn, and everything was stained with mud and grime, marring the elegant aesthetic.
And this princess was currently holding a terrifyingly lethal Destroyer K-50 in a perfect firing stance, its barrel still smoking.
’She’s the one who just blasted the Shadow Demon Wolf away…’ Under his faceplate, Zhou Chen’s mouth hung open. He watched as the blonde princess skillfully pulled the pin on a grenade and lobbed it toward the distant Demon Wolf. All the while, she kept firing the Destroyer shotgun, laying down suppressing fire.
Blood splattered from the Shadow Demon Wolf’s body as the powerful Enchanted Bullets blasted its flesh to ribbons. It collapsed, unable to get back up. In the next moment, the grenade exploded in front of it, blasting it into the air. Half of its leg was blown clean off, a mangled, bloody mess.
Zhou Chen quickly materialized a canister of Aluminum Thermite and threw it. The blonde princess understood immediately. The moment the canister landed on the Demon Wolf, she shot it.
An intense plume of fire erupted.
In just a few seconds, the Shadow Demon Wolf’s entire body was engulfed in flames. As the fire grew fiercer, its struggles ceased, and its body began to dissolve.
When ignited, Aluminum Thermite releases an immense amount of light and heat, reaching terrifying temperatures of up to 2500 degrees Celsius. It can easily melt most metals and burn through steel plates several centimeters thick.
More importantly, even a single drop can burn straight through flesh and deep into the bone. Contact means either severe injury or death. Even an Abyssal Creature couldn’t withstand that level of incineration.
CLICK. CLACK.
Zhou Chen heard the sound of a round being chambered.
The blonde princess was aiming her gun at him, her expression grave and tinged with nervousness.
“Who are you?”
