Magical Soul Parade - Chapter 328: The Strongest Of The Current Era

Chapter 328: The Strongest Of The Current Era
She leaned in and her eyes were wide and friendly. “Usually such a thing would not be allowed to happen. But I have been occupied with… other matters lately. Jun here thought it was right to act on his own and he forgot who was actually the one running things in this city.”
Her voice was sickly sweet and the bright smile stayed fixed on her face while she stared at Finn.
Finally, and very slowly, Finn responded.
“Ugh. I had forgotten just how sickening you guys were.”
The girl tilted her head with a confused pout while still maintaining that wide smile.
“Sickening?”
“You Harvester Cult dogs,” Finn continued while he rubbed his forehead in a gesture of exasperation. “You’re bringing up some very unpleasant memories for me… What was his name again…? Ah. Was it Nathaniel?”
The girl’s smile widened even further and she leaned forward across the table. She seemed to be trying to get right up in Finn’s face, squealing like a little girl at the mention of the name.
“You met Nathaniel?” She asked with a high pitched excitement. “How surprising fate can be! The fact that you met Nathaniel is wonderful. He was once an outer circle forward agent in my own squad before he was reassigned. And now I am meeting you here… How is he doing?”
Finn smiled non-committally at her sickening excitement and decided to play along with her little game for the moment.
“I killed him,” he shrugged. “Butchered him like two months ago in the island City of Xanth just before the world tear opened up.”
The girl’s excitement stilled instantly. She retreated into her seat and pouted like a disappointed child.
“Well that sounds about right. That was Nathaniel’s last mission before nothing was heard from him or the team he was sent with. We even lost a Transcendent Fragment holder of Disguise in that mission,” she sighed dramatically. “It was such a shame to lose that specific power.”
Her expression then turned bright again as if the news of the death meant nothing. “Anyway, if he died by your hands then he must have deserved it. I am sure he would have died with a smile on his face. He was one of the more promising recruits that seemed to understand the true essence of Chaos.”
Finn looked at her stoically for a second then he grinned and matched the smile she was directing at him. He did not comment on the fact that she was so casual about the death of her own subordinate. He knew Harvester Cult dogs like her were sick in the head and could not be reasoned with. They viewed life as a resource to be harvested and death as a natural evolution. Instead, he decided to focus on getting the information he wanted.
“Was what Jun said true?” he asked. “Have there really been three hundred and thirty seven Transcendents to exist?”
“It is true,” the girl nodded. “That is the exact number of all Transcendents that have existed in all of recorded history. Though that number is closer to half in this current age. Many have perished permanently over the years. Some died during their own lifetime and others died during one of their lifetimes living through their vessels.”
She then added a sharp dig while she looked over at Jun in the corner. “It is mostly the weak ones and the stupid ones that died off anyway so it doesn’t really matter in the grand picture of things…”
That confirmation made Finn muse internally. He wondered how three hundred and thirty seven Transcendents could even be in existence. What kind of concepts had they all borne? Were there really that many unique concepts to go around in the universe?
He shook his head then looked back at Sue. “Why are you so eagerly answering my questions, anyway? We’re not friends, and I just told you I killed one of your people.”
She smiled brightly and rested her chin on her hands. “It’s because I find you interesting… And also because you’re very strong… And because you want to kill all the Transcendents.”
Finn raised a brow in surprise and then chuckled, genuinely amused by her bluntness. He did not bother to deny her accusation.
“How did you come to that conclusion?”
She looked at him with a confused expression as if he had just asked the most obvious thing in the world.
“That is why you were asking for details about Transcendents, was it not? It is why you were asking for the strongest ones…”
“I will tell you if you want,” she continued. “It’s not like it’s a secret who the titans of this world are. If you are looking for the strongest Transcendents right now there are several names you need to know.”
“There is Casmir’s core vessel. Egon Callahan. He controls the Space fragment and he is probably the most elusive of them all.”
Internally Finn was not surprised. He knew Casmir personally and he had a major score to settle with him from the past. He knew the space Transcendent would be part of the so-called “strongest” of the current age for sure. If he was not, then Finn would have actually been surprised by the drop in quality over the centuries.
“There is Hendrix’s core vessel. Enri. He controls the Soul fragment.”
That was a new name for Finn. He did not know of this one from his time in the past. This was a Transcendent that must have risen at a much later age after his time. More importantly, though, the concept a dedicated Soul Transcendent was intriguing. How did his powers differ from the power of an Ossuarist?
Sue continued her list. “There is also Priest. The Transcendent of Truth… that scheming dog,” she chuckled as she said the name. “He would have been a good addition to our ranks, but no one even knows whose side he is on anyway.”
She paused to catch her breath. “There are many others, of course. But if you are asking about the true strongest then you cannot do without mentioning my Master. The Great Absurd. The One Who Cannot Be Named. The Transcendent of Chaos!” Her voice reached a feverish and squealing intensity as she announced her liege. The leader of the Harvester Cult.
Finn frowned slightly as he listened to her.
So this Great Absurd was the strongest in this era?
It made sense that the Transcendent of Chaos was the one on top. Even back then Finn had heard wary rumors of the guy. And the one time he had seen him, he had immediately hated the playful assured calm the guy reeked with.
Just as he was thinking this, Sue finally came down from her high. She took a deep breath and calmed herself. Then she continued, her tone lowering as if she were saying something she was only begrudgingly acknowledging.
“But while my lord is boundless beyond compare, there is an old demon who is only slightly more powerful than my great Lord…”
She paused and then met Finn’s eyes directly. Her gaze turned surprisingly serious for the first time since she had started speaking.
“His name is Limitless…”
“Sage Limitless.”
